I just want to know how that post came into being, what lead up to it's creation? It is so left field.....

We'll never know. And honestly, maybe we shouldn't. Charlie is probably posting something about how NeoGAF is a liberal SJW-cuck heaven to Stormfront right now.

Apologies for the double post

Would be interesting for someone to finally be honest about what they find appealing enough about blackface to defend it.

Scientist have already determined that saying "nigger" is like drinking 500 pumpkin spice lattes

People work so hard to defend it. Just because they don't understand why it is offensive, doesn't mean it isn't offensive.

Like this costume is a fantastic example. If you put this costume on a Black person, would someone know it is Kanye West? Nope. I've never seen Kanye wear a hat like that. So the guy did blackface and added a sign. Why not just remove the blackface and have the sign since the latter is the only identifying aspect of the costume, and it won't offend people.

I'm Black and I don't even know how I'd do a Kanye costume. Probably get a shirt with one of his album covers, stunna shades and some knockoff Yeezys. Probably throw a leather jacket over that.

I think lowkey some people want to put on an amateur minstrel show. It's the only explanation I have.

If anything, these topics pull the racist outta the woodwork just to get squashed.

It is 2015 and people are still defending black face. Kill me.

I expect this shit from reddit a beacon of racists, or even gamefaqs. Neogaf was supposed to be different. The sad thing is this is a reflection of what actual people think irl.

See this guy does blackface really bad but it can sometimes be pretty classy I think the best example is this:
blackface_3910.jpg

sunny in philli joke for those that don't know. I'm not a racist haha

I see the yearly blackface thread has come with all the usual ignorance and racism. Followed by the yearly culling.

Still, this was some extra fuckery, damn.

It's crazy that some people can't see any of this.

NeoGAF, despite its lengthy registration process and E-mail restrictions, is still available to most human beings, if they want to join. The forum isn't the way it is because it's a magical oasis that only the enlightened reach; it's like the way it is because the assholes get booted regularly.

This thread is one in which this process is occurring.

Swear people have to be doing this to try and catch some internet fame. If you are born in the United States then you know how messed up that is.

Honestly, I don't know what else we can debate on man. This thread really lost it's legs when Charlie posted his insane spiel.

We could talk about how this guy is "a school district employee from Decatur City, Alabama".

So presumably he's in a position of influence over children which is sad.

:(

This was my kanye costume from like 5 years ago. Should have used blackface since Halloween is apparently a nothing is inappropriate pass.

Yea, blackface would have really made that costume complete.

I don't think I've ever even seen a really well done skin darkening for a costume. Probably because the people that would take time to do it well aren't dumb enough to actually do it

Indeed. This isn't like Reddit where the shit is allowed to fester due to being high on brownie points. When mods see it, the shit gets stamped out.

The bolded: Nobody is that ignorant to not understand why it is offensive. What they don't like is when the world seems to outgrow their juvenile need to be offensive for attention .

It's a vast world, my friend. Sometimes not with the most understanding of people.

Fun story: one of the costume parties I was at a long time ago had some dude running around trying to be a black person. He had the nappy wig, horribly painted skin, etc. I was the only black dude there, and I guess he wasn't expecting my kind walking around.

Had to spend part of my night listening to his bullshit about how it was all a joke and shit while I berated him for being stupid.

To the guy, thankfully banned, who said "why even post this", I'm showing you that this shit is still happening and it's still an acceptable thing. Well, not so acceptable that the majority is cool with it, but it still happens. And it shouldn't.

But here we are. Complete with a decimated defense force.

What makes this all the more ridiculous is that the dude is a fucking school teacher. I'm sure your clientele would be real happy to know that "people thought you looked like a real black guy on the street".

Modern racism doesn't take shape the way it used to back when desegregation was first causing white panic. New narratives have taken place based on the false presumption that racism is over--or at least the sensational, headline-making racism that involved gentlemen in white clothes and hoods that form the 'actual, old-timey racism' foundation upon which charges of 'overreaction' to contemporary 'small time' 'color blind' racists who have their actions diminished. So now when charges of racism come up they're compared to KKK rallies from World War I and given the old 'What you're upset over a little blackface? Come on guys it's not that bad.' Never mind that racism has always been a sinister, behind the scenes presence, the indian burial ground haunting American politics and that every weed that sprouts from it is a symptom of the same old shit that never went away for real, and only changed it's clothes and the language it uses to degrade at least 12% of the total population. Nobody's an 'actual' racist anymore, because the requirements of proving racism have gotten mysteriously strict without anybody to blame for it.

Still waiting on a black person as a white person doing blackface costume

what kind of bubble do these people live in that they think this is acceptable? he doesnt even look like kanye. i can only think of one time ive ever seen him wear a backwards hat. that's not even a kanye costume.

I think what's really amazing is how so many people in the thread are saying (or implying) "how are you supposed to dress up as [black celebrity] without the makeup?" while disregarding how successfully people dress up as white celebrities or characters without ever having to change their skin colour.

Every fucking year we have this thread and every year we get the same stupid as shit responses. "Well what about Dave Chappelle?" "What about Tropic Thunder?" Let's just ignore historical context so we can try to make an idiotic point.
All of you defending this, make sure you pick up one of these:

This is fucking hardcore racism, holy shit

It's almost poetic that horrible stereotype costumes are placed alongside elf ears.

It takes time to put on all that spray paint, in that time, the thought of "Maybe this is kind of offensive" never crossed his mind. Or maybe it did and he chose to ignore it.

Can someone explain to me the difference between using blackface for a costume vs dying your hair blonde for a costume?
I don't see a difference.
I mean if it a used purely for the intention of making the costume more accurate, and there is no racist intention, what is the problem?

Serious question.

There's nothing "accurate" about applying ridiculous looking paint to your skin to look a different race.

Blonde people are not marginalized in society, so there's not the element of people masquerading as blonde people and then reducing them to lesser people. We don't have a past of dying our hair blonde as a form of horrid racism. There's also not any real degree of oppression based on hair colour.

Bleaching your hair isn't rooted in old clown shows about slave culture.

How is changing your hair color different than your skin color?
