Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

Arena is just as fun as I'd imagined, although aiming in this game feels way harder than in previous games.

Warzone on the other hand (a game mode I was not looking forward to at all) might be my favorite part of the game. It's like the Battlefield/Battlefront game I've always wanted but even better because it's in the Halo sandbox.

Played until 4:30AM last night. I'm exhausted but all I want to do is jump back in when I get home from work

Perhaps somewhat foolishly, I have volunteered myself to once again create a community montage for HaloGAF. You can see my previous work, the Halo 5 Beta Montage here.

This is a pretty big undertaking, and I'm assuming the contribution of clips to myself will be of a high volume. So there are a few rules:

1) Open to anyone on NeoGAF
2) All clips must be recorded using the Xbox Game DVR application.
3) All clips must ideally be 30 seconds long at most to allow for some leeway during editing.
4) A link must be supplied from either xboxclips.com or xboxdvr.com - in order to allow me to download them, you may need to alter your privacy settings.
5) All clips MUST be emailed to halogafmontage@gmail.com with the appropriate link to the clip.
6) Your email must include your Gamertag and NeoGAF username.
7) Submission entries will close on Saturday November 7th 2015.

Whilst I can mostly guarantee this one to be Taylor Swift free, I won't make any promises. I can't promise to use EVERY clip sent in, but your chances are higher the more awesome the clip.

I hope everyone enjoys the game (I know I have!) If you have a suggestion for the name of the Montage, please feel free to drop it in your email to me with your submissions.

I see no reason to waste my time on account of 343's inability to program an acceptable matchmaking algorithm.

You can generally tell by the 20 kill mark that their attempts at putting together a competitive match has failed. Again.

I'm not sure if they're adding anyone else to the dashboard, but try to go to your preview app and "opt in" for the new dashboard. It comes out for everyone on the 12th, so like I said, I'm not sure if they're adding anyone else in so close to the official release.
 
Has anyone received their armor for watching nightfall and having some of the achievments from MCC? I've watched it back when it released but no armor unlock.

Yeah, if you quit out it ends up banning you, then degrading your Xbox Live reputation (which impacts future matchmaking as you end up grouped with people with bad rep only).

Gotta wait about 10 more hours to play this. Have around 30 hours to dedicate to this game this week. So I'm just going to keep refreshing this game while @ work. Tell me nice things people!

There was a thread a while back about this topic. I'm pretty sure people came to the conclusion that it was fraud. I've never done it, but it just seems sketchy to me.


Back on topic, while playing last night I've been getting matches on the same map one after another. For example, 2 matches on Plaza then 2 matches on The Rig. Is it a glitch or something? This is the team slayer playlist BTW.

Guess I'll keep pushing my luck as the game forces me to choose between having fun, and putting up with one-sided nonsense.

it is the first day and the algorithm should need some games to put everyone into a rank..right? so maybe give it some time?
 
So 10 hours and counting and campaign beaten and tons of mp played. I'd say campaign is enjoyable and easy to follow even for nephew who hasn't read any of the extended canon. Without a doubt this game is a great Halo game.

343 keep up the good work. It's going to be a long 3 years while we wait for Halo 6.

I'd be careful since it sounds like you can get temporarily banned for that. It's also really screwing over the players that got left behind since there is no join in progress.

It could be that a lot of players are either unranked or not ranked well in the early going and over time that will tend to sort itself out. My biggest concern is if the MM matches full parties against randoms because that will lead to mismatches even if the players are fairly even in skill.

Dude... it has been officially out for a few hours... Matchmaking will take AT LEAST a week to balance itself out if not a month to become far more competitive. Everyone is categorised as the same skill level for now as each player gets their own ranking and the matchmaking system learns who would best be paired together.

The selection of acceptable opponents for you will be massive at the moment and will only shrink down once people have their ranking which probably takes 5-10 games to normal out per a player. The match making side of things then has to split the skills levels up which will only get better over time as more people achieve their baseline ranking.
 
played first 1/3 of the campaign (about 2 hours) with 4 player co-op on Heroic. I notice you die REALLY fast. Seems like shields don't even pop you just die. Probably because you can now pick up teammates. It all seems very Destiny.

I hate Prometheans. Always will. Otherwise we had zero issues with connection or anything like that.

Seriously. No matter how good an algorithm for matchmaking is, it's going to take a few days for it to sort itself out. You have people of every skill level joining matches for the first time, and until they play a bunch it's not going to work perfectly.
 
Not since Halo 3 have I played a MP that capture that Halo magic as Halo 5 MP does, thats goes even after the fact that I hate sprint for Halo. Not since Halo 3 I get this sensation where I go to a game and I know nothing but your weapons are the real elent that dictates the outcome of a fight, no more having a sprint as an easy way to escape, as well as a what looks like a perfect balance in the weapon sandbox, there is also a better map design, and a New refreshed Ranking system makes for components to create a package that is worthy of indeed saying that this is the best Halo MP experience since Halo 2.

60 fps gives that icing to the cake on the experience, Halo was due for this, and Im glad 343 sticked with it despite the sacrifices made, that to be hones 8 games into the campaing I have only noticed the beauty of the game instead of every nitpicked made by doubters and haters.

My only concern is, if the new playerbase going to be patience enough to sit trough Halo's punishing learning curve, or the days of skill based shooters on console are over? Because this game deserved to have a healthy population.

We're like 9 hours out from launch. Give it at LEAST another hour or 2 to sort everyone out to figure out where they fall in the ranks maybe?

Yeah, I'll chuck my hat into the Halo 3 ring - I think it's the best Halo since Halo 3, too. In terms of gunplay and balance they've done a really good job.

And Warzone Assault is an amazing mode.
 
Guys can you play campaign while the multiplayer patch is downloading? :o

That might save my night instead of having to wait all night for the patch.

You... you realize that the more you play, the better the matchmaking gets, right? The more data you feed the algorithm, the better it's able to place you... that's how all matchmaking works.

Quitting out of games just prolongs the process.

Is it the 3 wardens that you have to fight? There are incineration cannons around the area, I think at least 3 or 4 of them. They should help in case you haven't seen them.
 
Just let him quit out. I'm happy knowing he'll be grouped with similar quitters and other players negatively rated rather than grouped with me.

I'm sure it is an amazing game but if I've only got a 4 hour window to play the game today and it takes that long to install it, what's the point in buying it today?! Haha

I miss the days when you could just rush home with the game disc, stick it in your console and play it.

I am tempted to impulse buy it but when the install times are so long on Xbox it really kills those urges since I won't actually be able to play the game on the day that I buy it

Maybe I'll look into buying it next time I have longer than 4 hours free.
