My forehead has my palm print permanently etched to it after reading this thread.
The only thing missing is that picture of Stephen Fry with that quote.

Thread title should be "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here. (to shitpost, that is)"
Was told it was the Omega Labyrinth one but with 39 bans so this one wins. Now which thread is this?
Now which thread is this?
But I'm really intrigued in this debate and - skimming the last few pages - there seems to be a lot of people that are simply using this thread to groan about the fact that people are wanting to have a dialogue about it.

For anyone with any questions about why people get upset about blackface...please watch the ending montage of the Spike Lee movie Bamboozled, which shows how early tv and movies depicted blacks.
*Warning for anyone who hasn't seen it...it's pretty heart breaking stuff.

Is there any way for a non-black person to paint their face black without it automatically being racist? If your answer is no, then is there even a point to a discussion about the topic? Is there even a point to this thread beyond it just being an opportunity to laugh at the guy posted?
If the answer is, "Yes, when used as a commentary on blackface," then does that act as sort of a pass to...well...use blackface in comparable ways to the person in the OP? RDJ in Tropic Thunder's character was criticized by his fellow characters for using blackface, but...well, a lot of people still laughed at RDJ in blackface talking with a "black voice." Mac in Always Sunny in Philadelphia used blackface, much to the lament of Dennis saying that it was inappropriate, but... well, people still laughed at how he looked as a black man. The same exact, lazy gag of "white guy unknowingly offending through blackface" is used in That Mitchell & Webb look. If it's a pass for some people and white entertainers know it, does it still make it a pass? If serving as a commentary on blackface is a pass, then does a white guy dressing up as a "clueless white guy donning blackface" get a pass because he can claim it's a meta commentary on white people dressing up in blackface?
Lastly, is there any difference between the actions of traditional blackface performances and the black face itself? I was born in Nigeria, but grew up in the States and - speaking *solely* for myself - what always offended me most about blackface depictions was the intent. It was the behavior. It wasn't that their skin was brown, but that their skin was brown so they could depict the lazy "coon." Or their skin was brown so it could be used as a butt of some anti-black performance. Those performers could have done blackface without painting their faces black just by carrying on with their performances IMO.
It's easy to dismiss people as "just not getting it," but it's not the most satisfying way to have a dialogue about something that not everyone agrees on - not just racists. If the consensus to this post is that I'm yet another person who doesn't get it and should kindly fuck off, then fine. But I'm really intrigued in this debate and - skimming the last few pages - there seems to be a lot of people that are simply using this thread to groan about the fact that people are wanting to have a dialogue about it. Including, yes, those people that may not automatically find this racist.
Around 50 bodies to be precise. Is that a new record?
(I love that "I don't see color" shit, by the way. Classic escape tactic!)

Could you elaborate?
a bunch of oversensitive people
Sure. A bunch of insensitive people vs a bunch of oversensitive people yell at eachother, while the rest don't know whether to laugh or weep.

I don't think pointing out how hurtful blackface is counts as being oversensitive. A false equivalency to the diet racism (at best) we've been seeing here.Sure. A bunch of insensitive people vs a bunch of oversensitive people yell at eachother, while the rest don't know whether to laugh or weep.
