The biggest problem with this plot "idea" is that he already overcame the temptation of the dark side in the OT, what a way to ruin a character arc retroactively. The amount Luke theories out on the net about him being a sith is getting old. We know he isn't. It's all over sites like yahoo etc.

I hate that the majority of fan theories are just retreaded plotlines from the OT. Like Luke has to be a Sith. And Rey has to be Luke's daughter. Or Rey and Kylo are siblings. Or that Starkiller Base is the Death Star III.
I fully trust J.J. to avoid these tropes and actually come up with an original plot.

"Plinkett" is the fictional persona of a guy who reviewed the prequels in-depth for RedLetterMedia.Who the hell is Plinkett, and why should I care what he has to say about movies?
I've honestly never heard of him before, but he's being referenced a lot in this thread.

What is that? A giant Pez dispenser? What were they thinking?!
Lollipop. What is that? A giant Pez dispenser?
Thanks. I just went back a few pages and saw it.Lollipop.
As amusing as they were the first time around, the Plinkett reviews are incredibly overrated.
The argument is that he actually gave in to it.
I don't find them overly offensive but I really feel like JJ is gunning for us to think that as a red herring to make a different twist even more crazy.
So Luke could be Harrison Ford?Yeah, it's pretty obvious he wants people who haven't been following along with the pre-release bullshit to connect those dots.
What's surprising is how eagerly the entertainment media is helping him push it. Like, they don't have to - especially since they ARE the kind of people who absolutely know for a fact Mark Hamill isn't Adam Driver.

Yeah you shouldn't watch TPM first. My friend did that and it left a VERY sour taste in his mouth. He said Jar Jar completely turned him off to it.This is a great way to ensure no one can ever get into Star Wars.
Is this like the mega evolution of that idiotic Machete order?1,2,4,5,6,3
I am dead certain we've already hit those last two at least twice.
Everything's been hit.

Nah, Machete order is Episode 4,5,2,3,6. Episode 1 is skipped over.I think that is the originally suggested machete order, no?
No worries, you're not being a dick.(I don't mean to be a dick or anything - I just find SW threads amusing because they all seem to converge toward a common progression of discussions.)

you're missing Marcia Lucas
oh god what have I done
Ah, I forgot that some people skip TPM when viewing machete style.Nah, Machete order is Episode 4,5,2,3,6. Episode 1 is skipped over.
The problem with Machete order is that going from ANH/TESB to AOTC/ROTS to ROTJ is that it's the cinematic and story equivalent of whiplash.

speaking of plinkett, Im kinda of interested to see how RedLetterMedia goes out for this one. If they do a half in the bag and/or plinkett review
They did a Plinkett review for both new Star Trek movies (Even if the Into Darkness one was brief), so I'm guessing they'll do both.speaking of plinkett, Im kinda of interested to see how RedLetterMedia goes out for this one. If they do a half in the bag and/or plinkett review

No doubt. I'm glad Abrams didn't feel constrained to mimic the original movies in that regard. One thing's for sure about TFA is that it looks it's gonna have the most dynamic camera movement in the entire series (for better or worse).
It continues to be hard to fault this man in his real-life ventures. Here's a story about George Lucas donating 10 mil to USC to support African-American and Hispanic students

There's nothing requiring him to do the Plinkett review soon after the movie is released. Also: RLM's gonna do Plinkett. No way he doesn't. Stoklasa busted him out for one of the trailers already. He knows the whole reason anyone even knows who he is due to the Star Wars shit.
He's basically obligated to do it. Which means (combined with the fact he's likely not gonna have as much hay to work with, and definitely not as much time) it probably won't be very good.
Nah, McCallum challenged him quite a bit. A lot of people challenged Lucas quite a bit.
The difference between 1977/1980 and 1999-2005 is a couple billion dollars and decades of being a CEO first. People told Lucas "no." Lucas told them "I don't care."
It's hard to place the blame on anyone in particular, but yeah, I'd say the lack of hurdles Lucas was presented with definitely attributed to the movies' quality. Could probably say the same about ROTJ.Honestly, nobody really says this, but I blame Rick McCallum for the prequels failings more than Lucas. Ricks job was to produce these movies and a good producer challenges a director. Rick was nothing but a yes man to Lucas and McCallum as far as I'm concerned has no good producing record.
Show us any evidence where Lucas was ever challenged? None of the special features or vid docs show it.
This shit drives me crazy, especially with the Plinkett reviews. His criticisms with what's in the film itself don't bother me, but when he starts inferring stuff from the special features about what must have been going down behind the scenes I really don't see the point in it. There's no way you're going to know what was going on, so why not just focus on what you can be sure of, which is what is in on the screen. But that doesn't necessarily fit so cleanly with the pre-written narrative that Lucas is some sort of oblivious ruler of a crumbling fiefdom staffed by people too scared to disagree with him, so it gets dismissed out of hand - even though you don't see THAT on any of the docs or special features, either.
You shouldn't.

Granted, it's more the audience taking those thoughts and running with them, but still. I hate the amount of focus on Lucas supposedly being some kind of money-hungry emperor.
That's fine, but doesn't really have to do with what I posted. I was commenting on how it's irritating the assumption people make about George as a person, like that he's in it for the money or he listened to absolutely no one else during production, because of Plinkett's observations. Many people I've talked to treat that shit as fact.More like shit director. The movies themselves are a testament that people fucked up and the buck stops at George.
Personally, I have never begrudged Lucas for the amount of money he made, just that he didn't hand off the chair to someone more competent.
