I remember hearing multiple times on NPR over the summer that Rubio is the one candidate that the Clinton campaign fears giving them a tough time.
I read that they were freaking out prior to the debate. It's really done for him now.

Rubio doesn't really have anything that's a threat to clinton- she's a far better fundraiser, has the experience argument, the foreign policy argument, and (so far) is better in debates.
Marco can string a sentence together without drooling on himself, but that's about it.

He and Carson mostly stuck to the questions or segments directed to them.
Carly, Kasich and Christie weren't having any of that.
It's also why Trump's not at the top, he batted away things thrown at him quickly and kept quiet otherwise.

I'd run the clip of him saying she was the better candidate and they'd lose from the first debate over and over and over again if I were her campaign.
It's pretty apparent Jeb! has given up. He didn't think winning the nomination would take, you know, work.
I don't know. He's a very agile and talented politician and I think a lot of people underestimate him just because he's surrounded by ten clowns during a debate.
Makes sense. Rubio offers a really large contrast visually. There's almost 25 years difference there in age, and he's Latino? It's only when you look at things substantively, on policy, that see how he pales in comparison ... Unfortunately, when you consider the voting populace at large, you see where they'd be right to be worried...
They'll have to hope that as the GOP field gets whittled down the likes of Trump or other candidates (other than Jeb) really start to tear him down and wound him before he gets into the general.
I still can't believe they tried to re use the bankruptcy question with Trump. He's already shown at past debates he has a pre packaged answer ready to go. You'er just wasting everybody's time.
Like, there's probably a way to do it now I think about it. Something about being a businessmen and getting out of Atlantic City is fine etc etc, but you can't declare bankruptcy and walk away from the people of the United States when the going gets tough or something.

Hillary handled Obama pretty well during the 2008 debates- she won as often as he did, give or take. And obama had the benefit of not having to defend completely insane GOP talking points.
There's no real win strategy for Rubio one on one vs. Hillary. That woman is capable, prepared, and has no real weaknesses for him to exploit.
It's going to be Rubio. I think this debate solidified it.
The crazies just need to rub one out over Trump and Carson first. After that, the adults in the GOP will tell them to sit down and let the real campaign begin. Hilarious to realize that Trump was able to do what Dems could never do in take down Walker and Jeb.
And the Hillary campaign should worry. The very optics of a Rubio vs Clinton race will make a lot of liberals squirm, not to mention how FL comes immediately into play with Rubio on the ticket.

The moderators looked like three clowns asking there vindictive questions. Came off immature and biased.
I'm not a diehard republican but Cruz had a point. Why can't we have a democratic debate moderated by three real right-wingers. Republicans are too nice sometimes and let democrats take some low blows and they get away with it.

Carson can be not a serious candidate (he isn't) and also be tailor made to win Iowa (he is). If anything, Carson leading Iowa is one of the few ways the race is shaping out to be very conventional.

They should, they were complete amateurs. Dude did you watch the democratic debate? It was softball after softball. I don't really care but watching with unbiased eyes I think the republicans get the short end of the stick with the debates.

They're about as right wing as the people on stage.
Hillary doesn't really seem that capable and prepared now. She was squirming in a lot of situations during the last debate. It's easy to dismiss the LOLBENGHAZI bullshit that the hardcore right loves to bring up against Hillary, there's still a lot of negative favorability associated with her. I think the email servers issue is yet to completely rear its ugly head as it is actually a separate issue than the Benghazi conspiracy theories.
The last big "word association" poll that Quinnipiac released had Clinton more associated with the words "liar, untrustworthy, and dishonest." It also had her favorability/unfavorability ratings at 39% positive 51% negative. Rubio's were 41% positive, 27% negative, having him as the second highest favorability rating among (potential) nominee at the time. First place? Joe Biden.
It's also amusing to see who puts weight into early head-to-head polls. But if you want to look at that stuff, there are plenty that put Rubio ahead or within points of Clinton. There's still far too much noise with the other primary candidates to properly look at that stuff though.

I can think of one CNBC moderator that is an ignorant shitbag though and it's not Jim Cramer...

I thought Cooper asked some decent, fairly hard-hitting questions. I think the candidates during that debate (besides "it was my first day") just had better responses instead of refusing to answer and getting the crowd to boo.

The biggest problem with these debates and the reason why the candidates can gang up on the moderators so easily all comes back to the same, simple, mind-boggling fact. THERE ARE TEN CANDIDATES ON THE STAGE. Holy shit. You have a kiddie debate. Fucking use it. Start sending people home.
It would be interesting to see a Dem debate on Fox, but there's no incentive for Dems to do it.

I'll give you this. Overall Trump in particular was hounded and chased for the last three debates or so. I don't believe that Republicans as a whole have been mistreated by moderators, especially in this debate where they practically rolled over once the powers the be on the earpieces told them to cut it out. See below for an answer regarding the "tone" of questions in the democratic debate.
Yeah, for the most part. That didn't stop moderation from asking about Hillary's emails and what it said about her character. O Malley and Chaffee were looking for blood there, but Bernie preemptively shut that down and gave Hillary some major help in that regard. Both parties' presidential candidates have been given some dubious questions as far as I'm concerned. Democrats just aren't nearly as big crybabies about it.
Thanks for these. The mail one stood out to me in particular, but Cooper certainly didn't let anyone rest on their laurels for too long. That aspect of the democratic debates felt really present in the first thirty minutes or so of the Republican debate, so I felt that it was a good watch. Everything afterwards was a joke not worth tuning in for (except Jeb getting mauled by Rubio lol).

It did start strong and cooper was harsh but questions got soft and tone was fucking jovial. There is no way you can sit here and say democratic debate had moderators that tried there best to cut the candidates down. Cooper would ask a tough question then back off.
I can tell you this, Anderson cooper is a million times better then these assclowns. Dude was a great moderator and I like him moderating any side.
