Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

Assuming we know the 6 DLC characters from mining the beta who would you think would be the next set of characters? My guesses are Akuma, Dan, Sakura, Blanka, and 2 new characters. Though, I wanna say Cody and Guy. This is assuming we get 6 characters a year (I think that'll change in 2017 though).
I think Dan is very unlikely because you have to get people to actually pay money for him.

So when this game matures competitively in like 2+ years, it really wouldn't surprise me if Sim ends up sucking again. The defensive\zone archetype has definitely been revamped in SFV, no doubt. But at the end of the day, I think Capcom would rather err on the side of making those types of characters suck instead of being super strong.

You can't improve on a beard.
I still think we will get a Final Fight Season.
Hahah. And yes, a downloadable duo of Haggar and Sodom would be hot like (yoga) fire. Guy and Cody if you must, but the heroic hilarity of Haggar/Sodom would make me so happy. Like, Ballad of Mike Haggar level happy.

Plot twist: He will be the only character that Capcom will give YOU fight money to download.
Gold. Dan at this point is an unfunny joke making fun of a rival company that's no longer in any shape to be honorably made fun of, but the Dan discount would be amazing. "Get Gouki for 50% less if you also download Dan for free and force yourself to play with him for the same amount of time."

Honestly, it makes sense that way. It's definitely not fun to go up against an opponent who is amazing at turtling and lose, feeling like you had no chance at all.

Dhalsim looks completely different.

Prolly the most changed character even considering Claw, who was a charge character before, and Dictator, who changes in every iteration, but retains knee press and the stomp and some of the normals.

If Capcom made Dan DLC, they would have to make him good. I would want that.

I think a Shoto with a short fireball, a really good tatsu and a decent DP could play. Just have to give him decent to good normals.

What is watching footage going to prove? The game has a large number of bad matchups and that's a fact. Jojo's is my favorite fighting game but I'm not going to let that blind me to how bad some of the matchups in the game are. I can beat many kakyoin players with joseph but that doesn't mean the matchup isn't 8-2.

This also really isn't the thread to have this discussion.
Fuck kakyoin

What would Dan's game plan be, anyway? Good evasion tools? Fast but short ranged specials and taunts that can be spammed for meter? I remember in Alpha 3 his normals were slower and stubbier than Ryu's, but did slightly more damage.

Dan's taunting powers up his next specified normal. Multiple taunts for different normals, which he can boost up to three times for a certain percentage

Which one is the thumbs up?

I assume it is like Mika and you leave it pressed and it goes through them all eventually.

V-Trigger is a legit Haoh Sho Ko Ken

I hope they don't change Urien drastically, dig his play style.. Don't know how they'd allow multiple Aegis Reflectors though...

Rashid's V-Trigger is almost like Urien Aegis already, so maybe they go for another thing.

Or maybe you have two activations for his V-Trigger, and one is a single Aegis of long duration, and the other is a short double aegis.

But I actually expect his CA to be Aegis, and his V-Trigger to be him exploding his suit.

This could potentially be really good, particularly if you don't have to hit the specified normal first, so you can combo into it

They could do it in the style of Karin's V-Trigger where the meter slowly drains after activation and each time you use Aegis it takes a chunk out of the meter. Give him enough meter to do 2 reflectors during the trigger time like having two bars of super in 3s.

Akuma, Sagat, Sakura, and Cody are the most popular ones left that I think will make it (sorry, Q) but I don't think they drop them all in year two. I'd expect them to put one low popularity character in per round like Birdie and Balrog.

(2017) Akuma, Sagat, Elena, Makoto, Yun, Hakan

(2018) Fei Long, Honda, Blanka, Sakura, Cody, New

Personally, I think they would have to emphasize the taunts.

You could do lots of interesting things with Dan. Chargeable Gadokens. Better recovery on air born Dan Kicks (so when he lands he is not brutally at disadvantage). Hell, you could give him that unused command grab. Or incorporating more Ryo or Roberto moves from SNK (rapid punch attack, as an example). All of that would be interesting, but doesn't feel like a cohesive design strategy.

I think an interesting style would be to keep him a little flawed (though keep his Dan Kicks awesome), but give him quick meter building taunts and slower stat buffing taunts. His V-skill should absolutely be these taunts. His V-trigger could give him a satsui no hado mode where he has Dan versions of Akuma's moves; make them funny looking, but make sure they are useful. This would also, of course, turn his normal super into Dan's Raging Demon move that appeared in a few crossover games.

Either way, I REALLY hope Dan makes it. Though I am thinking he will be a season three inclusion at earliest.

Despite him being one of my personal favorites I thought Dan was kinda popular.

Dan has always been a pretty divisive character. There are plenty of people who like him, but the detractors can be pretty vitriolic in their hatred.

I'd definitely play him if he had something like that. As long as his normals were not shit it would be a cool way to emphasize certain moves.

And troll your opponents by buffing one attack only to never use it in the round just for mindgames.

Dan would be a waste. There is no way Ono doesn't turn him into a joke character again.

You can make Dan effective while sticking to his roots. Joke characters can still be silly, but still be strong characters. Characters like Luigi from Smash and Bang from Blazblue come to mind for me. I understand that Dan's creation was to mock SNK back in the day, but I feel he's evolved from that. Again, his Omega move set gave a lot of options for a fun mix up game.

I understand why people wouldn't want Dan, but I feel like he could have the most unique and fun re-design of returning characters. I expect to see characters like Akuma and Sakura to return first, but Dan's far from a waste.

Dan was my main in IV, and I'd love to see him again.

That said, I feel like he won't be in V till 2019 at the earliest. I'm thinking that after launch we're probably gonna get one shoto a year. So Akuma in 2017, and Sakura in 2018.

Also, it's worth noting that the 2016 DLC roster has 4 characters returning from IV, and two characters that weren't in IV. I think this is going to remain the ratio, going forward.

Because he's a joke character some perceive him as a wasted slot. Nothing stopping Capcom and Ono from making him good, though. I mean, he was already vastly superior to past appearances in SF IV.

The real question is which year we'll get Ingrid in :P

latest

Man, her sprite and design look so off and low quality compared to real street fighter characters :p
