Most pathetic/desperate/obsessed/regrettable thing you have done gaming related?

I wore a suit to the FA Cup final on my Championship Manager save with Arsenal

I was drunk, don't know why I thought it was clever, but yeah

I bought an Inverness Caledonian Thistle shirt to wear for when I took them to the UEFA Cup Final in FM2005.

Back in early college I really wanted a PS2, badly, but being a broke ass student I didnt have a way to get one. My family had cash but my parents were notoriously anti-videogames, and only begrudgingly bought me some every once in a while.

So I had the brilliant idea of betting big on NBA playoff games to effectively win a PS2 in one shot. 2002 or 03 playoffs i think, Lakers rolled the Kings in Game 1, and I bet the farm on the Lake Show. Several hours later, the Lakers got smooshed (in that game... They won the series, smh) and I was out the equivalent of 350$.

Embarassingly enough, I had to turn to my mom, who bailed me out with a check.. with her name on it. Now THAT was an interesting conversation with my bookie pal.

Sold my collection of PS2 games ranging from 30 to 40 with the system for about 50$ cash at gamestop.

I'm also part of the 'bought a vita' club.

Also skipped a day of work to play mass effect 3. Wasted sick time to finish a game I've grown to hate so much.

I used to defend Wii in forums.
But the worst one that I can think of is that I walked like 3 kilometers (and 3 back, I did not want to pay for public transport) to buy Fable 2 in a local shop, famous for selling games before their official release date.
I am ashamed of myself. The forum's hype and its consequently infection is real.

- pathetic
eating burger king kids meals for pokémon toys way back when. its pathetic cause I didn't like their burgers or fries. no amount of making myself eat 'em changed that. yuck!

- obsessed
creating/editting dozens of pages a day of pokémon info. like there was no rush, wasn't aiming ta be the "first" of having said info out but whatevs! I still get in this "marathon mood" from time to time like recently when I spent 7+ hours straight crosschecking & copying down npc dialogue from a specific part of one of the .hack games. >_>

- regrettable
buying an N64. pretty much a worthless system. only ever had 3 games for it, all pokémon ones. 2 of which are basically useless/pointless in this era (stadium games). not saying I didn't have fun with 'em at the time but I can't help but think that money coulda went towards games I'd still enjoy playing today.

the real pathetic thing is owning a vita and not realizing the greatness of it

;D

Once it gets fully opened-up by homebrewers it'll be the best console in the world. But even then it'll always be second fiddle to my laptop.

For some reason I've always traded my Nintendo handhelds for the next model. The only old ones I still have are the GB Micro which I kept because it is such a curio and the 2DS because I will need a power adapter to trade it and that means buying one just to trade it. Since the original Playstation I've kept all my consoles.

I was so hyped for Phantom Hourglass that I imported and completed the Japanese version. I also spent an unusually long time pausing Super Smash Bros. Melee to peak up Peach's dress.

I bought the Carlton dance on destiny. I was prepared to feel shame and regret but I didn't know it would hit me so soon after hitting the purchase button.

Buying ore and herbs from people in WoW I know were botting

I made a ton in WotLK from it.

Also knew a friend who had an account set up to bot to farm and never reported him

I bought an X-box 360 to play Street Fighter IV. Also the game was at full price at the time. An year later Super Street Fighter IV came out for 40€.
Also I bought the collector edition of Marvel VS Capcom 3 for 80€ and some time later Ultimate MvC 3 came out for 40€. Still my favourite characters (Megaman, SFIII's crew and Rival Schools' crew) weren't in. Every other character I hated most form Marvel and Capcom were there.
Fool me once, it's your fault. Fool me twice, it's my fault.

I never trusted Capcom anymore after that.

1. Buying a Vita, of fucking course!
Then wasted 260+ hours of my life on Dragon's Crown, Hundreds on P4G, almost three digits hours on GB2/2, OnePiece/Gundam/various Musou, Sen No Kieski 1+2, Ys, Muramasa etc. Should have used the time and get another degree.....

2. Buying a DSi. Reason is that I am on Tales of Hearts' last few hours, the DSL died and I bought a DSi to replace it without knowing it was the last leg of the system. 3DS came out not long after..... I should have trusted my instinct and bought a used DSL instead.......

I told myself I wasn't going to post a confession on this thread but I feel I have to.

Knowing the Carton Dance is in Destiny makes me want to play it.

I got a 99.8 completion ratting in GT4. When the PS3 came to replace my PS2, I traded away my PS2 hardware and transferred my GT4 save onto the PS3... A year latter, my PS3 YLOD'd and I lost my GT4 save... For 2 or 3 years prior to that, I spent months at a time reducing my track times, tuning my cars down to perfection, and performing miracles to beat every race and challenge... All down the fucking shitter.

In the grand scheme of the thread, maybe this isn't too bad, but buying a new iteration of a console, whilst already owning an older model, would certainly look odd to someone who only approaches the hobby casually.

Achievement/trophy lust has also led me to play some games, that otherwise were completely undeserving of my time. It also leads me to sometimes look at a trophy roadmap before starting a game, as a way to judge whether or not it'd be too 'demanding'. I'll admit that I still do this, but it at least is a good way to see if a game leans too heavily on collectibles, which is something that I loathe anyway, regardless of the circumstances.

Kind of cute story: when I was 15 I lived in a small villige about 30 km from a lager ...well also a villige but lager society. I took my bike and biked there because I really, really wanted copy the game "simon the sorcerer". I went there, copied the game (four disks) and took my bike home. Arj x-v *.* a:/ c:/ or something like that? The game got stuck att 99% because of bad disk.

Fuuuuuuuuuck

Took my bike, went back and copied the last disk , went home.

I bicyckled 120 km and it took an entier saturday. Crazy when you think that you can download it on itunes in like 5 minits.

Love the game thou so it was worth it

One time I was playing Custom Robo and the girl I had a crush on asked if I wanted to hang out, but I was feeling pretty cozy so I passed. I am ashamed. :(

My only perfect gamerscore game is Final Fantasy XIII. My only platinum trophy is Final Fantasy XIII-2. I also bought the PC ports for both and beat them again on PC. I really like Final Fantasy XIII.

I still don't own XIII-3 after my PS3 YLOD'd and my 360 stopped reading discs, waiting for the PC version to come out so I can finish the trilogy.

Camped out in front of a Best Buy in a tent with a 101 degree fever in freezing weather to get a Wii at launch. My spouse insisted in coming along to make sure I didn't die.

...

...I ended up mostly hating the Wii.

At least you survived. Also your spouse cared enough about you to suffer through it with you.

Things could be a lot worse.

What the? You didn't want to play it for some of the best games ever made (e.g Super Mario 64, Goldeneye, Ocarina of Time, most of Rare's output in that era)? C'mon son, calling the N64 worthless is some blatant trolling.

It's a subjective opinion. The N64 didn't have a particularly varied library; if they didn't find much to like within it, of course it'd be worthless.
