Spanish screenshots from the game show date in few pictures, it's 10.23.2287. Even saw someone calling Bethesda liers because it's not precisely something something years after Great War like Bethesda said in E3.

The local map looks a bit better than the 3 and NV one.

Saw Hines reply about this Twitter. Hines confirmed 200 years back in July. When somebody called him on it just recently, he said he was just going based on what Howard said and then he basically said: shut it. Hines kind of seems pissed off on twitter that people are leaking some of the game. Going as far as saying if you ask me about leaks I'm going to mute you. But with only about a week to go and so many review copies in the wild what did they honestly expect? Actually I think so far the leaks have been pretty damn tame.

Jesus, people are sad. Have you looked at the leaked trophies? All of them I mean.

Yeah, I read full list. Most are super simplistic stuff, not sure why Bethesda even bothers with achies like that.

Yeah, I'm surprised that information leakers have been gentle and not gone all in with story, cameo etc. spoilers.

Yeah, not sure what they expected. It's fucking Fallout. This was going to happen. It hasn't even been that bad.

The problem with fallout 3 is that it takes place 200 years after the bombs drop yet it looks like they dropped that year.

Yeah, that's what really cheeses me about the game. Like, two centuries and the grocery store is still decently stocked?

I know fallout was never about cutting edge realism but things like that really break the immersion for me. Hope they handle it better this time around

What Rjinaz said, I think he said 200 years on dot. Meaning FO4 would overlap with events of FO3, but now that we have seen in-game date we know it's 10 years after events of FO3.
Don't forget, Todd did say it took place 200 years after the bombs dropped, the protagonist was in a 200 year slumber, what's ten years extra lol.

Also, did you see the picture for the achievement called
Nuclear Family
? Going into potential spoiler territory here people.

Tag it bro. I saw it. I know what it implies.

Nope and I don't want to know..

Edit you tagged it nevermind. I was avoiding the trophy list for that reason, though I kind of figured on that one.

Nothing so drastic...I would assume
your SO exited the vault a few decades before you did and you meet up with them and they're all old.
But there's the achievement called reunion, in which it depicts you and presumably the baby from 200 years earlier.

The Nuclear family achievement is an old man on his death bed presumably and you holding his hand.

Edit: No more spoiler talk after this discussion, just in case someone accidentally clicks lol.

I'm part of the silent, maybe majority that enjoys the changes in skyrim and looks forward to more. I say majority, because skyrim was their best selling creation engine game iirc.

I'm with you. I enjoyed Oblivion but I played Skyrim waaay waaay more.

Huh, weird. Didn't notice that other one. Guess we'll see.

Yeah, moratorium on spoiler chat.

I'm out. I was skeptical about this game ever since they confirmed the removal of skills but all these negative points sealed the deal for me. That perk especially is counter-intuitive to the essence of RPG design. Why bother putting any points into intelligence if you can stay at 1 and get the same benefit? Why even bother deciding a SPECIAL layout if you can just max it out with infinite level ups? It feels Bethesda wants all the players to do all the things and, while that may be appealing for some, I don't like it.

That perk is quite obviously there as a way of not punishing individuals who go for low intelligence builds. Why bother putting points into Intelligence? You mean other than gun mods, chem bonuses and hacking skills. No reason I suppose.

And your last point is why I usually don't put much stock in Bethesda criticism: they were hammered for having level caps in Fallout; now that those are gone you're hammering them for not having level caps. I'm glad they aren't looking at forums and are just designing the game they want to make.

How is dialog a "rigid complex system"? Is everyone forgetting Mass Effect exists? You can have large scale and fully-voiced games that don't limit your dialog choices.

I think RPG's aren't for you if you feel that in-depth and extensive dialogue [VA'd or not] is "rigid complex system". Most of players who love RPG's expect "rigid complex systems" like extensive amounts of dialogue with people in the game.

I have no idea what the original poster of that comment was referring to since they just slapped down a drive-by comment without referencing anything. Whether they were referring to the dialog system or something else, my comment still stands. However fine, let's remove "complex" and simply leave in rigid, which it is if it refuses to change.

The dialog options in Fallout 3/New Vegas weren't these great accomplishments in any case. They were often flavor text that all it did was allow you to - in your head - respond in a different way, but still arrive at the same point that everyone else did. The only thing this Four Button system possibly removes are the SPECIAL/Skill checks that were prevalent in New Vegas that allowed you to get around certain conversations. Was that fun? Sure. Would their removal alter the previous games in a lasting way. Unlikely.

Having a voice pro-tag meant Bethesda had to make certain adjustments and this appears to be one of them; it already started in Skyrim and folks have no problem playing the shit out of that game. They've just refined it even more here.

Always late to the party on this, but I feel that New Vegas was the better game in terms of writing, story and making you feel like the choices you made mattered.

Fallout 3 was the better game as far as the world and exploring.

Which was basically already said because I'm slow.

This whole post makes my point of "Maybe RPG's aren't for you".

There is many reasons why quite many view Skyrim as RPG-Lite because how shallow certain mechanics are for what is supposed to be RPG. When you have less depth in dialogue system in your RPG than BioWare then you may have fucked up and went to too shallow end of pool, imo.

Whole point of extensive and deep dialogue is to give you those side branches to pick and go through. These usually flesh out character that you are talking with, flesh out world and event etc. aka add immersion and lore into RPG. It doesn't matter that you end up at same ending point as player who skipped all side branches. Making dialogue system very shallow in amount of choices and depth with basically only critical bullet points to click on you will be distancing more hardcore RPG crowd.

You can maintain extensive and deep dialogue options even if you VA it and streamline UI.

Maybe it's direction where Bethesda wants to go with their RPG's, make them RPG-Lites that appeal to mass market more.

Dude must be using a cell phone cam.

That is some seriously ancient cellphone then.

Edit: Apparently you can't preview perks without level up and/or proper SPECIAL value? Bullshit system if we are required to create character and set SPECIAL blind.

Late pass please. I liked New Vegas really for the ability to ADS. Otherwise they're even in my book.

Im getting the game on saturday

Man, I hope I will be able to finish it this time. Ive bought oblivion, fallout 3 and skyrim. Never been able to finish a single one because I get bored after 20h of play

I'm getting this regardless of my ability to play it. The game releases just a day after my birthday anyway, so I'm getting it as a gift.

I have faith in Bethesda anyway when it comes to scalability. Creation Engine (or whatever they call what Fallout 4 is running on) can be tweaked easily, should be possible with some coding to get the game running on my toaster.

Let's all be gentlemen and ladies and not post marked or unmarked story or story related stuff in this thread or any other thread that's not the spoiler ot thread. All questions that may require a spoiler answer should also go into that thread. DON'T BE A DICK.

Please don't be that guy.

Edit: media and Gaf blackout confirmed. See you guys on the other side.

Yeah I echo this sentiment completely.

Yea i saw one second of a clip and saw the comments and bailed. I just want footage WITHOUT STORY SPOILERS but i guess that's a lot to ask for since the game is in the wild now.

Just one more week omg.
