AoEIIHD: African Kingdoms shares balance with prev xpac, releasing Nov 5th 2015

With this expansion for Age of Empires II HD, the new expansion for Age of Mythology Extended Edition and Halo Wars 2 coming to PC on 2016 something tells me that the game Decisive Games is making
"next installment in a beloved strategy game franchise to the next generation of gamers". it's going to be Age of Empires IV, does anyone else agree with me?

Yes please AoE IV PLS Decisive Games!

Would prefer Age of Mythology 2, tbh.

Also, here's a thought. They bought up Rise of Nations, and haven't produced any new content for it. Odd man out.

(They also bought Rise of Legends, but I'm the only one who remembers that)

It blows my mind that these games are getting new official content. Age of Empires II is 16 years old. Good lord that's cool.

IKR? It's pretty fantastic.

If there ever is an Age of Empires IV, I hope they shun modern day or future epochs and revisit Classical and Medieval history (in one game). Incorporate everything that didn't suck from AoE I, II, and Online, and blow the wheels off with something like sprawling maps and pop caps in the thousands.

I think we'll get an Age of Empires 4 announcement next year. As to what the time period will be, I have no idea.

Not really. It's only for the "HD" version of the game. I own the original + expansion (and the Forgotten Empires mod) and am not able to play this.

I would scream with joy.

The Unified Lobby system will be interesting to see in action. Players without the expansions will be able to play with a host with expansion content active, using a League of Legends-esque pool of civilizations that rotate regularly (in this case daily).

Hopefully it will achieve the goal of splitting the community between expansions less.

If you would have told me over a decade ago that my favorite RTS would still be getting expansions in 2015 I would have laughed in your face

I know it was online-connected, but I loved AoE Online. Wish they would've just made it single-player at the least before shutting it down. :(

It would be neat if they could bring that one back, too!

We'll definitely cut the Chieftains upgrade cost.
Unique tech that gives Viking Beserks an attack bonus versus Cavalry.

Only new thing I gleaned from poring over the comments. Tight ship over there

Wait, are they creating new content for AoE 2 (HD)?

Holy shit, when did that start?
They brought on the Forgotten Empires mod team to build an official version of their mod for HD, and now the same team designed and built the African Kingdoms expansion. They're also building a new expansion for AoM Extended Edition.

WTF? There are expansion packs being made for Age of Empires 2 HD? Are these legit (as in sanctioned by Microsoft)?

It's pretty awesome.

I loved AOEII hated AOEIII, but did AOEIII really fail that hard and the fan base love still continue that much that they dropped support for AOEIII and kept on AOEII?!

I played 2 and followed it through its time in msn zone to gameranger(still there) and followed it to steam until I found Starcraft, I might get back into it now....remember getting yelled at for clogging up the lines with many hour long matches With dial up internet as a kid by my mom lol, cool there's still official support.

The music in the trailer is really nice. I wonder if we will get some new music in the game?

It really does sound awesome and totally could have been released alongside the original game 16 years ago. I simply adore the work they've put into these 2 xpacs.

That is incredible. Why hasn't this been more widely publicized?

Because it's an expansion from a different developer for a 15 year old game in a genre that has lost a lot of relevance since the game was first released. I'm personally excited for it, but I get why it's so far below the mainstream radar

Did they fix the game?
I remember it being the ONLY game that I ever wrote a negative review on Steam.
I pre-ordered it with a bunch of friends. We were so happy to finally be able to play it again without using Hamachi or whatever.
The we got the terrible glitches, optimization issues, broken netcode and everything else.
I remember that we waited weeks and months, but they didn't fix it. That was before Steam introduced Steam refunds so we got stuck with this(at the time) complete broken piece of shit.

That expansion is looking pretty neat, but if the game is still broken to play online then I'll give it a pass.

Last major patch was 4.3 in August: http://steamcommunity.com/app/221380/discussions/1/

Thanks for that, but I still don't now.

I remember that in 2014 the game was still broken.
Reading the changelog for that 4.3 maybe they fixed the performance issues. But if they did it "only" took them what, 2 years?
I honestly still don't trust them. The experience was such a bad one for me and my friends that it completely destroyed any kind of trust I had with those devs.
Hell I remember convincing one friend last year to re-install it, saying "Hey, it's been one year already, surely they've fixed the game", only to spend 2 hours frustrated trying to have a game.

Perf fixes sorted my issues before the Forgotten dropped, if memory serves. Why not fire up the game to see?

I can try, but I'll have to convince a local friend to re-install it, to see if the ping is still atrocious and the game still has lag spikes.
By the way, playing the original with the same friends had absolutely no connection issues, so if that's fixed then I may give it a shot.

Remember that you could always buy it and test it out for 2 hours before asking for a refund.

I don't remember the official version of FE having siege towers, are they new?

They are indeed, hopefully they aren't as annoying as the AOM siege towers. :P
