Halo 5: Guardians Smashes Record with Biggest Halo Launch (games/hardware) in History

There's a lot of additional great news in the report itself, namely this:

Additionally, content from the broadcast generated 5.5 million total views throughout the week. This resulted in a spike in digital sales of Halo 5: Guardians, leading to it becoming the best-selling digital game ever in the Xbox Store for an opening week.

And this.

Regardless if Halo 5 did less than the other mainline entries or not, it's still a pretty big success, isn't it? I say congrats to 343 and Microsoft.

Most certainly.

If they're talking revenue, and including hardware sales too, then microtransaction would be counted in the software portion.

Considering how much opening packs prints money for EA sports titles this is some genius PR.

For sure. I don't think there's any doubt about that. The REQ packs alone will probably ensure that.

Most, the ones like me I presume, are simply trying to figure out the decline after the UK numbers.

That's actually better than the one in the predictions thread.

Can't beat the best.

Wow, this is completely opposite of what GAF thought xD

we still have no idea how it performed (the standalone game).
well we can assume it did significantly less in the UK since we have retail numbers.
PR would look the same no matter what numbers it did.

i'm sure it sold well, question is how does it stack up to previous halo games.

Do they mean biggest launch ever as in sales or some other aspect like the amount of money they spent on the launch? Seems like somewhat ambiguous writing to me, maybe I'm just being weird. Anyway, I love the game and my Limited Edition console. :)

Why do people ask for sales?

It's all 'bout the money. It's all 'bout the dum dum dedede dum.

No, seriously. GTA 5 broke the $1 billion mark in a week, if I remember correctly. $400 million is nothing to be sad about. And the money will probably keep rolling in. It's a great launch.

Its biggest Halo launch, mean its revenue beat all other halo no metter how you cut it.

It's clear the sales are nothing to brag about, hence they are hiding behind revenue. High revenue just means this is the most expensive Halo to launch.

Revenue != profit. Profit is how you make money.

But how many copies were sold, Microsoft? Where are the receipts?!

Time to pick apart the press release!

How many copies did they actually sell?

Lol how many copies

Always feels weird when they're touting dollars made and not copies sold...

so how much did it actually sell?

LOL.....

Congrats if true. a healthy market is a healthy market...

It was a pretty good campaign, don't really give a shit for the multi. But man, that is some god tier creative PR. Props to them.

Can't wait for the NPD this month. And also hopefully to see some numbers soon.

Regardless, MS is in the business of making money and it looks like they succeeded. So congratulations 343 and MS.

As long as the franchise is making money and they keep investing in it, I'm happy. I need my Halo fix. Halo 6 already seems too far away.

That is a very weird sentence. Conspiratorially I guess they want people to focus on the 'best-selling digital game ever' and miss the 'for an opening week' part.
