Halo 5: Guardians Smashes Record with Biggest Halo Launch (games/hardware) in History

Why they hell are people including controllers and headsets as hardware? I'm starting to think Halo is dead isn't a meme and some of you actually believe its its on its death bed.

Halo being dead is a meme and anyone who seriously believes that is an idiot.

With that said, the PR is vague at best and there's nothing to suggest that controllers and headsets aren't included (or are).

Further (directed at other posts), talking about the decline of the series =/= series is dead. Nor is talking about the decline downplaying anything. But I suppose some posters just want a strawman to bash.

Even if we just take this to the extreme and say 90% of the sales were from the 500 dollar bundle we are still looking at 1m copies sold at launch.

Halo MCC sold 1.1m in its first week..... Now if we go by that being highest attach rate at that time and add the consoles sold since then we can come up with a rough figure as to how many copies were sold at the very least.

What type of decline are we talking about here. Units or $$$

Where are you getting all this from? Hardware almost certainly means consoles. The rest is your gut feeling, which isn't what you should be concluding with.

Because controllers are hardware, and there are Halo 5 branded controllers?

Hardware is not just consoles....

So XB1 Halo Controllers are not hardware lol
Categorised as an accessory officially, not saying it could be but its highly unlikely based on past grouping of hardware term when reporting numbers. It's your desperation to include it as a sure thing which is odd.

I mean the controller came out 3 weeks before the game

The bundle came out one week before the game, yet here they are including it in the PR.

My personal expectations after UK numbers puts Halo 5 at 1.6m in US (NPD).
That means ~2m WW for the first week/month.
Retail only.

About 50% less than main previous titles... it is a big decline in sales.

Well but US can do better than UK, no? Yes but I don't expect that.

Ya I don't get people throwing controllers and headsets into it. These have always been categorized as Accessories, consoles are Hardware.

By Hardware they mean the XB1 Halo Bundle, thought that was obvious.

That would be crazy, but based on the info out there it actually seems plausible.

True test is if they take October NPD due to Halo 5. Could be another Titanfall where the audience for the game already own the console.

No one can say for certain. I think the wording spells biggest launch in history of the franchise, others think biggest launch in history of the franchise on Xbox One.
Maybe we got some English Literature grads on GAF than can help out.

It's the term 'biggest' which is causing confusion because it potentially has so many variables. Biggest selling? I seriously doubt that. Biggest marketing spend? Quite possibly. Biggest buzz around social media and streamers? Almost certainly. And so on. I think they've very deliberately chose that term because people will naturally assumimg they mean biggest selling, when in fact there are several other things it could mean.

Streaming maybe huge but it's not huge for halo 5 on twitch

It's like people didn't see through the PR statement in the OP or just read the thread titled and commented, unreal

Well, to be fair, the UK isn't the only place that purchases games and accessories. Halo is pretty big in the states. I have a ridiculous amount of people on my friends list and the majority are playing Halo 5. I don't know if that's any indication of how well the game did, but it's fair to assume 1 game on 1 platform bringing in $400 million in 1 week is good. I'm not sure how people could spin it another way.

The only thing more embarrassing than Microsofts spin is the fact that people in this forum want others to be super positive because they love microsoft

Wow MS is such an expert with spinning, lots of words and nothing concrete we can take from it, like 400$m includes sales of the XB1 machines?
How do they define "biggest Halo launch"?

Can't wait for the PR come January.

Halo 5 is the highest selling game of the holiday.*

*on Xbox One**

**Xbox One exclusive

That spin had me like

Still I do hope the game sells decently. Narrative issues aside, it's solid.
