Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

The "how fooolish of you" line from Fan reminds me of the "Yeeeees?" guy in the Simpsons

Vegas English voice is the coolest thing though.

I'm pretty sure Fan is going to be a straight up Lo Pan from Big Trouble in Little China rip off.
Id be okay with that, but what would his weapon be?

It's a shame Ricardo Montalban died, he'd be good as Vega.

Birdie's great. Not feeling the others so much though, Bison sounded better in SFIV. The voice direction for this game seems weird.
So far I really like Birdie and Vega. I agree Bison was better before. Chun, Cammy, Ken, and Rashid are perfectly adequate too, and I'm starting to love how stupid Fan sounds.

Also in terms of the actual story mode illustrations- once I got over the fact that it's not CGI I thought they looked really good. I think I'd actually prefer this to the badly lipsynced Rival Battles in 4. Of course MKX mode would be better, but I think there's a few obvious advantages to this style of story, not the least of which being that there's no way Capcom has WB's budget.

Ryu - "....what is going on"

Come on, y'all know his interests are only fighting lol......and maybe food. But the dude do need a future successor though......
----------------

Also just heard Fan's voice and kinda dissappointed.....was hoping for another female character tbh. Though kinda intrigued since I think Fan might be Sagat's replacement since he left Shadaloo quite awhile back. From his audio files, he seems to be high ranked and being one of the 4 Heavenly Kings of Shadaloo would definitely be high ranked in there. Also since this is before SF3, the story is likely gonna show Shadaloo's downfall/Illuminati's rise and IIRC, Shadaloo's downfall was planned by Illuminati and it would be funny if Fan was secretly an Illuminati agent. Not gonna lie, his voice sounds like he would be a backstabber and if this turns out true, I called it lol! The heroes(Chun-Li, Guile, etc) and others(Nash) will do most of the fighting with Shadaloo and Fan is probably planning/doing stuff with Urien on the low low(hiding in cloak and maybe full reveal near the end) until the organization finally falls. Again, this just an assumption lol....XD.

Also I'd wait till they release a story trailer before going all crazy on the mode. Though for months I've been kinda worried since they haven't released anything besides character trailers at all compared to SFIV where you get character trailers, promo trailers and anime trailers throughout it's promotional period before launch. If Capcom themselves are claiming that they want to rival MK's story mode, they should've at least release some promo trailers like how SFIV did. Some random ones below:

Akuma/Gouken Trailer

Seth/M.Bison Trailer

Chun-Li/Juri/Cammy Trailer

Frankly, I think it's telling that we aren't getting any of the promotional trailers like the ones you listed above during the marketing campaign for Street Fighter V. These were de rigeur for Capcom during Street Fighter IV, Street Fighter x Tekken, and Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 and there's been nothing like that for SFV and the game will be out in 3 months. It's starting to feel like the game is essentially what we've seen from the last beta (not that this would be that bad of a thing). My guess is this is probably the lowest budget new fighting game Capcom has put out in almost a decade.

Which isn't the fault of SF, just Capcom being stupid with their money.

If anything, they are very smart, because
- They had came up with the best model for IAP
- They have an insanely solid system in place for the actual fights
- When it comes to visuals and audio, the game is sublime.

They have cut the fat. The fat which actually would bring in new customers, sure (story mode, good beginner-friendly stuff), but the game will still have room to grow into a competitive sport with a solid foundation, story expansions can be still added later, if they wish to do so.

In an ideal world, they should not have to balance between these aspects, but hey.
(Edit: I mean the devs are smart, not capcom :D Capcom's smartness ends with realizing that gameplay >>>>story)

Can someone get me the quote of Capcom saying anything related to MKX's story mode?
I know of Ono mentioning a long time ago about being jealous of MK9's story mode or something like that and that's it.

Here you go! It was basically just Hip Hop Gamer forcing a headline out of Matt Dahlgren, though; he asked if SFV's story mode will rival MKX. From a PR perspective, it was either say "Yes" or risk making the story mode sound weak.

Going off that, Matt never directly referred to MKX. Only said they're looking at competitors and doing things differently than they done before. The headline of the video is really unfair, imo.

Indeed.

Because MK's not the only fighter that has a story mode. Dead or Alive had one, and so did Blazblue and Guilty Gear. Just because MK9 and X was praised for it's story mode doesn't mean that SF has to crib off from MK. That's a dangerous precedent for assumptions and misplaced hype.

Besides, all we have from Capcom is that they're making an effort at a story mode compared to SF4 (which is a low bar, but yeah).

The budget is low because they're not wasting money on shitty CG no one will care about in 3 months?

No, they're using money on stuff that actually matter like online infrastructure features.

Birdie's great, and so is Vega and the little I've heard of Sim. Not feeling the others so much though, Bison sounded better in SFIV. The voice direction for this game seems weird.

I agree on voice direction, it feel like someone told keen to sound like sf2, and ryu. And I don't like that, I liked in four they sounded like their own people saying their move names. But now they sound... stiff.

The marketing for SFV definitely feels very subdued compared to SFIV or SFxT. No CG trailers (not even for newcomers) or Cross Assault equivalent. Of course, I understand not doing the latter, but no trailers for newcomers at least is really weird. I understand wanting to not overspend like they did with SFxT, but so far the excitement for SFV feels kinda small.

They have to wait for the holidays to be over before shifting into mass-market mode.

Everything so far is aimed at the hardcore primarily.

"The marketing for SFV definitely feels very subdued compared to SFIV or SFxT."

SF4's big marketing push didn't start until 2 or 3 months before (console) release. People were still posting the Chun Li pregnancy gif and ken's nasty ass hair, etc. No one was paying attention to any of the arcade game footage and a lot of people on GAF really didn't care much. Then they dropped some big fancy hype trailers and the release date, yada yada.

With Call of Duty, Fallout 4, Assassin's Creed, Halo 5, etc right now doesn't feel like the time to be making a strong marketing push for a game that's not releasing this holiday.

If you've seen the newest Playstation commercial there's actually like 4 or so Street Fighter references in it, right next to games like Uncharted and Destiny. Sony will definitely market the game when the time is right... it's basically their 2016 release equivalent of Bloodborne.

Massive, worldwide beta test that fried servers doesn't sound subdued to me.

SF5 is currently #9 on the Gamespot "popularity" ranking list, flanked by such niche titles as FFXV and Kingdom Hearts 3. And, as the release date approaches, that rank should increase, like MKX did when it approached release.

I think SF5 marketing has been pretty darn effective so far...and we aren't even done, yet.

ABOUT THE RANKINGS
Rankings for the GameSpot 50 are generated by a proprietary algorithm that measures the interest and engagement in game titles by analyzing the traffic patterns of gamers across the GameSpot Network for the past 30 days. Updated daily at 8am PT.

I've only heard Fan's voice, but his character seems so much more interesting than the other newbies. I've always loved the overzealous henchmen archetype.

Pregnancy gif?

I just realized that SFV I'm regards to story is going the Round One way and that's pretty cool at least in my book. You'll probably get the in engine fight your rival scenarios I think that's cool. If you guys haven't seen SF:Round One is on hulu it shows Charlie and all that pretty cool visual novel movie.

If we go by the character mentions so far, Decapre and Gouken might be in the 2017 DLC character group. Barf. It's like they sat down and said "which two SF4 characters are worse than Rufus? Let's put them in."

If the ??? on those audio logs is Necalli btw, he sounds a lot like Seth.

Listening to Karin's voice samples she's not characterized how I expected. She sounds kind of oblivious and snooty, rather than confident and dismissive. Birdie sounds like the most interesting character personality wise so far lol...

By that logic we'll get Maki, Guy, Cody, Haggar, Fei Long, Eisbahn, and Karin's fat waiter.

There is no SF4 character worse than Rufus, by the way.

I mean at least Rufus stands out lol. And you're technically right, but I think there's a pretty big difference between showing up on a poster and having the central focus of Cammy's story (?) be "Where's Decapre and the rest of the dolls?"

Fan sounds like he's a replacement for Gen , the english voice is reminds me of Randall Duk Kim and the Japanese voice just sounds like an old wise man. Perhaps he'll use drunken boxing ? Maybe all the rigging on his skeleton was to cover a long ponytail or beard ? Perhaps he needs extra bones to animate all drunken master style ?

Guess we'll find out within a month right ?
