Alright, so I've played about 2.5 hours and I'm loving it. The only thing I'm concerned about is the map size. Something about it feels small, but it's so densely packed that it'll probably end up feeling larger than it is.

Does it feel much smaller than Fallout 3 and New Vegas maps size?

Need help with one of the very first quests in the wasteland. Its to
build beds. How do I do this? It says I have all of the parts for it, but it wont let me build it from the workbench

This is my first FO, playing on normal and the enemies seem to be bullet sponges, maybe I'm doing something wrong, I'm doing like a very early sidequest and these damn gouls just eat too many bullets and melee does not do much :/

that's fallout, you need to level up and get better weapons, the ghouls will be no problem soon enough

can anyone tell me how to 'connect a wire' from my generator to something in the settlement mechanic, I can't see any in my crafting menu

edit: nvm, it's because you don't craft them, just press triangle/Y

Legendary enemies appear semi-randomly, or may also be in some scripted spots.

They all drop one piece of randomly-rolled special armor or one special weapon which has a unique modifier on it that can't normally be modded in via crafting.

The item itself might not be impressive stats-wise outside of this special one-off modifier, encouraging you to mod up the weapon yourself to bring its stats up and make it truly useful.

I've been using a shotgun for ~20 hours that deals an extra 50% bonus damage to ghouls. I've been using a sniper rifle for ~10 hours that has rounds explode when they make contact. Someone I know found a sniper rifle that never has to reload :-O

Can someone plz help me out, I've got to Diamond City but everyone is attacking me before I got inside. I didnt even fire on anyone, that woman cant be killed as he health regenerates and when I go into the city everyone is trying to kill me. So I cannot do these missions anymore?

anyone?

Can someone explain the power in the build mode?

I've just got the message "build something that requires power" stuck on my screen. I've got a generator, a pylon and just built a lamp and it won't go away.

What's a good source of copper for wiring?

The spacing of everything feels right, like you're actually in a metro area with suburban surroundings.
I do agree with this. I like the layout of everything much more than Fallout 3's wide open areas of nothing.

No, it feels about the same or bigger in terms of surface area. Hard to tell for sure though, I'm just going from the views I've seen of the other side from high up on things, so I could be totally wrong.

Not gonna spoil it for anyone, but Fallout 4 does something interesting with its surface area that I didn't expect. Everyone will see for themselves maybe a third of the way through the main story.

Edit: Fuck it - read this at your own risk:

The map extends beyond what the UI says is the "edge" of the map. There's several areas, NPCs, dungeons, etc. that are "off" the map.

Got a question regarding some perks. For example, Big Guns increases damage with big guns, Commando increases damage with auto weapons. So what happens with weapons like Minigun? Do they benefit from both perks or is Commando reserved for auto weapons that previously fell into Small Arms category (smgs, auto pistols, assault rifles, etc)?

And speaking of miniguns, I was watching a stream earlier where the guy walked around in Power Armor and wielded the same minigun as shown in the trailer - does PA come with a minigun attached or is that a separate weapon that you can use outside the power armor mode?

Also I accidently made my wife look like some psycopath from silent hill or something >>. Her smile is creeping me out and she's smiling all the time..

Nah I mean the collapsed buildings that you can't even enter. They are the plots where you can build from the ground up.

Ah OK, neat!

Another question.. How to connect wires to light bulbs? I think I need some ceramic to make a connector, or can I just bring the wire over to it? Trying to make a ceiling fan.

They're capped at 10 but I'm not sure if they have effects going above it. The END 10 perk can give +2 to END, so maybe if you have a 10 in STR and get the bobblehead it'll still give you more carry weight and stuff.

I don't remember how it worked in the other games.

Is there any way to tell what dog meat finds? Sometimes he finds a safe or a box of ammo, but sometimes he barks in the middle of a field and it says he found something but there is nothing there.

Yeah, I strongly suspect that effects can push you above the 10 cap, but since there's no perks there, you're just getting the other bonuses (like carry weight for STR, XP bonus for INT, etc).

Holy shit

haha loving the Giant Bomb quick look. Definitely going to watch more from these guys in future.

"What happens if you get addicted?"

"Don't know, I haven't used drugs because I'm not a fucking dirtbag"

There's no 11 on SPECIALS...

How are people feeling mouse/keyboard vs controllers?

I'm using M/K but some of the controls can be a bit awkward, gonna change some stuff around.

Man already spending 2 hours on my settlement lol. Everything you craft and build also yields +xp, so for one of my apartment buildings (2 stories, 4 apartments) I gained a whole level lol.

Game is so intense I forgot ot eat the whole day. Oh well I can still eat in-game.

Built myself a little settlement already so I can store all my junk lol

I'm a couple hours in and I'm enjoying myself, mostly, with one glaring issue. I really wish they didn't go with a voiced main character, the dialogue choices are so god damned barebones they may as well not even be there anymore, and I love illusion of choice too. I mean, it's worse than the bioware wheel and that's saying something.

On PC, but I assume the story is the same on PC. At least based on what I know, which isn't much. :D

We'll try nvidia's shadowplay. And I'll try screen shares. But not holding my breath. Might just have to live the lag life...

Thanks though!
The lag seriously isn't that bad. You adjust to it and if you're speaking over something like Skype you may be able to figure out how to time things. But you won't find a better option really.

So a buddy of mine took his XBox One copy home early, just relayed me some impressions (about 4 hrs in). Overall pretty positive, said he had a few spots where the FPS dipped, never to zero like the DF article experienced, but he did say "low 20's" for his guess. Only happened twice to him.

He did say most of the hiccups appears indoors. Its not game breaking, but it is noticeable.

Hopefully I'll get some more impressions from him tonight. Makes me feel better about pre-ordering on the XBone vs. PS4, but I think I've learned my lesson. No preorders from here on out.

Is there any way to find a particular companion again? I wanted to try a new one and sent my dog back to the sanctuary - then there was a mission where my dog followed some tracks - now dogmeat's disappeared

I think I've put 10-15 hours just into settlement planning and construction. Once you learn how all the electrical things work like the lights that you can set the color for (I'm building a giant "Welcome Home" sign in Sanctuary with the colored lights), things get insane.

I get what you mean, it kind of feels like that when you look at the actual map in the pip boy but playing in the actual world it seems a lot larger, I don't think the pip boy map gives a good indication of scale. I also heard there's a lot of underground in the game but can't confirm since I'm like only 3 hours in and and barely done anything lol. Pretty sure Todd Howard also mentioned that there's a lot more "vertical play area" or something similar than other Fallout games.

Also I quite like the change of VATS being slow-mode now instead of entirely paused, flows better and makes combat more dynamic when making decisions in it. The slow mode speed is just right.
