Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

I prefer the H5 method of not showing gamertags/clan names/ranks of matchmade players until the postgame lobby.

Quitting has always been bad in Halo titles; if anything I blame kids getting used to JIP on COD. But this is at least a small step to curtail some of it. It was proven to be an issue on HMCC, so I support the setup in H5.

I'm sure some forger will spice this thing up so it doesn't look like a play doh wet dream, hopefully 343 replaces it too with a better looking version, that's what forge is for.

Now seriously, you have more than one hundred colors and you use two shades of grey with some yellow on top, even the FUCKING CRANE is yellow and grey...BRAVO!

So as i said, BTB gets forge maps..... We dont even get real maps for this? What a disappointment. This game play great, but the maps are easily the weakest part of this game. Major downer for me. Never liked the forge maps in general.

343/10 post, would read again, nominated for 5 academy awards, GOTY 2018
This post offends me and I feel threatened. Now whenever I see someone with a mortal kombat username doing something one typically wouldn't see a mortal kombat fighter doing while posting on GAF, I'm going to be worried that they might say or do something to offend me... and personally, I don't want to live in that kind of world. GAF should force everyone's usernames to be hidden to protect those of us out there from that type of anxiety. It isn't right and I won't stand for it.

+1 for not showing anything. I don't even think they should show emblems, personally.

People absolutely would quit based on any meaningful information available to them in the pregame lobby.

I think Madness is on point with his comment.

Agreed I don't agree with the change to not show players and the rank at the beginning of the match. I think it's a bad change especially when previous halo games did it so well.
If quitting is already a problem and prevalent in many games, do you really think showing others who they're playing against is a good thing? If people want to know more about a player, why not just go online and search their gamertag? It's a minor inconvenience at best before a match starts imo.

I just don't see how ranks add any type of positive information In a Pre game lobby.

Armors and stances? Hell yeah, wanna see those.
Warzone and campaign stats? Maybe.

But flat out ranks and arena information?

There's no reason. At most you get a better sense of how good your team is gonna do, at worst you have people back out of the lobby as soon they see your stats don't match up with what they want.

I think you guys are the ones being baby's about it. Wanting to coddle everyone, don't make anyone anxious about who they're teamed with or who they're up against because they might dashboard, blah blah blah. I just want to know who I'm playing with, see their stances, their service records and ranks. Why would I back out? We might as well go in blind then. It's just wasted space to have 1 person fireteam on the right, and have thumbnails in the middle that are meaningless. Several games with it, worked well, but no, now is the line in the sand where it won't be shown, already one of the most noob friendly games that even announce when and where power weapons are coming from etc.
Actually our stance is the opposite. It's to stop the baby's from whining all game long blaming the game or the matchmaking, or worst of all, quit before or during the game.

So, yeah. I don't think you should ever, EVER see someone's ranks before a match, only after.

This is just something you'll have to deal with, sorry.

I think a big problem with the map is the theme feels really forced. Like the white lines on the road shouldn't be there because it just makes the whole map look like a joke.

Am I the only one that is actually impressed with that? Yes the map is missing textures, but other than that the map is really impressive looking for forge.

Problem is, they don't even show gamertag before match starts, so you don't even know the names of the people you're playing.

I think all of your arguments fail because not only are we getting jackshit in terms of information, but quitting is rampant. You can't go more than 1-2 matches right now without quitters so what did it help? This is one of those things that sounds good at trying to alleviate a problem on paper but still fails in the real world, screwing over the rest of us who don't care who we're matched against but want to at least see some cool emblems, see gamertags etc.

Even worse, post match, they don't even show medals like they did in Halo 3 or Reach.

Could I at least know what Team color I'm going to be in the pre game lobby, or does that need to be hidden until the game starts?

1. This is a good thing. They shouldn't show you them.

2. Post-game gives you all the information you need. Check it out sometime. 👍

3. They do need to add medals. Definitely agree with ya there.

People quit most often after their team falls down by a significant margin early. Do actually think this would improve if people could detect a potential mismatch before the game even begins? It would make the problem worse. People would be gone before the map loads.

I'm just not understanding. Why would they quit? I mean the point of the 5 tiers of 7 ranks is to match people with skill. We're seeing some of the most consistent skill match up and close matches ever. So someone who is diamond, why would he freak out if he's paired against diamonds and high platinum? They're not putting Bronze against Onyx and SR means nothing more than participation rank.

Also, almost 90% of my matches have been quit from the start, either right before match loads, or seconds in. Whatever, just something I gotta live with I guess. Just another feature done away with because of whiny assholes who would quit if they saw something they didn't like. It's just a game.

I imagine this is a large part of why the h5 menu is the way it is.

Hey guys, quitting is rampant...

Let's "improve" it by letting people know that they're gonna get spanked BEFORE the game LOL
I keep seeing posts about how well the game matches teams up and then I see posts like this... I'm not sure which is actually happening.

I thought the game does do a pretty good job of matching teams, no?

Well I didn't exactly have many points lol. I wonder if 343 should try the public shaming route. Like next to your name in a pre-game lobby it has a big quitter label with the number of times you've quit out of a game.

Can you not understand something? The skill matching is more consistent than its ever been. People at gold and above are saying they're getting some real tense matches. How about you can't even click on the player to the right. You just see that you have VinFTW, Madness, Blah Blah on red team, and so and so on Blue Team. You can't click any of their profiles, and their rank isn't visible. It's just their gamertag and emblem, what will they see there that will make them think they're getting spanked? They're not putting Champions with Silver you know.

Lord no. There is literally 0 value in the current version. Seriously, what purpose does showing me their emblems do? It gives the players nothing.

So, if we can't matchmake well, let's just hide it and let them get stomped for 10 minutes?

Reach is unquestionably better than Halo 5 in the UI department. Might as well not have the emblems in there at all. Completely useless.

I don't think it's a matter of hiding bad matchmaking. When people see ranks, they quit out of fear of losing... Just because a match will be difficult doesn't mean it bad matchmaking. It's supposed to be challenging.

I'm on Team Let's See Enemy Players Pre-game.

I used to love checking out the competition. And the skill matching is so good in this game I think the chances of a team of golds running into a team of champs is highly unlikely.

I don't see why we need to coddle everyone from seeing their competition. If they are the type of people who quit out of matches then they either quit pregame or they quit in game.

Yeah, they're quitting anyways so what's the harm? Simple. There is none. They'll fix this I bet.

It does. I mean, after a pretty close game, I see everyone's rank and we are all similar. If I saw these ranks before the match began, I'm not going to quit because it won't be easy for me to roflstomp a team in a ranked playlist or vice versa.

But I guess it's not for me, but for those that would rather play socially and don't want/like Warzone and are forced into Arena or go play any other shooter this holiday.

Quit. Ban.

Someone gets scared of my Onyx rank and doesn't even want to try? Ok, thanks for the win and enjoy your timeout. Hope the game continues to match you with people outside of your skill level (even though that doesn't seem to happen often).

Yes I know it hurts the other players when someone quits on their team, but again, that's the purpose of the quit ban.

Good lord has the player base improved in just a week. I was competitive a week ago in warzone and last night I got my ass pounded. I refuse to give up though. I guess I need to take my arse back to the campaign and finish the game on heroic and legendary to train. Yeah I took th easy route and finished it on normal. :P

Completed Legendary. 9 more Achievements to go, mostly all Heroic CO-OP. I need a sucker to join me.

What timezone are you? I'm down to do co-op.

(I think I'm halfway done with solo Legendary as well. The shorter, more numerous missions definitely makes the task feel like less of a slog, Warden fights aside.)

There's also a lot of strategies and team efforts that have developed over the week. Some of them, when done well, annihilate the other team with great effect.

I think it does a great job. I played with a pretty big variety during placement but after it's been pretty consistent.
I get the idea behind not showing the rank pregame but to just use a thumbnail to show these cool new emblems seems silly and an oversight by 343. If the ID was just black I wouldn't be bothered but there are some cool gt backgrounds I'd like to see. I know it's trivial but since you're investing time and or money I'd like see others and have mine be seen. I also just think it looks better overall.

Seeing a lot of people quitting near the start of games, even when our team is winning. Is it likely the disconnect bug people are getting in the other thread? Had a few games where we were winning until one of our team dropped out and the other team locked the map down with their extra player. Frustrating.

They probably saw your or the other team's emblem or read your gamertags, it's probably something they didn't unlock yet or the gamertags sounded mean and hardcore and so they put two and two together and thought that you'd spank them so they quit before they got matched up...

Tell me the enemy player's:

Gamertag
Rank in that playlist
Highest rank
Emblem
CSR
K/D in the last game played
Commendation progress %
Their mother's name and phone #
Their home address

and I'm good. Not asking for too much here guys. Also let me talk to them for a solid minute before the game starts after the above is revealed.

I'd prefer a full psych profile and mother's maiden name along side all of that.

They were on my team, they were obviously scared of embarrassing themselves trying to match my Platinum skills.

If matchmaking works, people shouldn't be quitting due to rank.
People quit for a large variety of reasons. Seeing who you're matching is a huge problem. Sometimes you can upset a team of higher ranks, but you'd never know if people just quick looked at your teammates or the enemy and didn't see something they liked. Boom, dashboard. Enjoy your derank people-who-stayed!

I'm pretty blown away ANY long time halo fan would support pre game info.

If anything, emblems are too much as well. Show an orange square and get ready to fucking battle.

I was champion in slayer on my alt and you would get quite a bit of pros matching you. I ended up dropping into onyx pretty much because people started recognized emblems and once they saw who they were playing against at the start (or before) they'd leave instantly.

Just play the damn game.

pre-game information sounds like a problem for semi-serious gamers who go into arena solo w/o a team. A full team wouldn't care about who they are playing against and would worry about being the better team. This is silly to see two pages about UI arguments. hehe

IT would be cool to see people's spartans before the game loads.. kinda? but that info would be gone so quick it wouldn't even matter to be honest.

Maybe for Warzone/BTB, and hopefully if social comes around, the lobbies can be less serious and showboat who you are to the 'woooooorrrrrllllld'.

where are my mister cheif stances?
