Does anyone know when the faction cut off point is? I'm assuming it's the quest Battle
for Bunker Hill
?

Also, I want to side with the minutemen but at the moment I can't speak to Preston about the institute. Only BoS and Railroad are gearing up for something big. BoS asking me to
help rebuild Liberty Prime
and the Railroad devising a
synth rebellion in the institute
. Meanwhile the minutemen killed the Mirelurks at the Castle and now are just sending me to set up/defend settlements.

-How do you estabilish links between various settlements?
-How do you attract new citizens in a settlement?
-What are scrap workbenches for?

1. you need local leader level 1, then go into workshop mode, hover over a setttler and press rb/r1

2. build a settler recruitment beacon, it is under power>misc - remember to turn it on

3. not sure what your referring to

Any know how the end game works?

Like, can I continue on normally after finishing the main campaign, or do I need to restart from a save point to finish the remaining quests?

Nick wanted me to get Dogmeat to follow a man's scent (how does he know about the dog, again?)

Sorta agree (I have the power of quest markers on my side but whatever makes you happy, Nick) so I went outside, ready to fast travel to Sanctuary

And Dogmeat was waiting for me right there

Staring at me

That creepy motherfucker

Is he stalking me?? INSTITUTE SPY???????

I had Dogmeat with me, so that part felt natural. I think I was even the one to suggest it. That dog's the best.

I am wondering if anyone else is struggling with the sneak mechanics in this game? I have 11 agility (maxed + an item buff), three points into the "ninja" perk, all leather gear (some pieces with the "shadowed" or "muffled" prefixes), and silenced weapons, and yet I can still be sneaking through an area at night, and have an enemy LOS me from 30 feet away. It will often go into caution when this happens, but because of how sensitive enemies are even if I am able to go back to hidden, they will simply see me again as soon as I enter the room.

Is there something I am missing with regard to stealth mechanics in this? Pretty frustrated that I have put all this energy into trying to make a sneak character and it isn't working out at all.

Have you put any points into the sneak perk? It's different from the "ninja" one.

I should have invested more into strength instead of intelligence at the start of the game..
I use the idiot savant-perk and I always have to throw out loot whenever I find something more useful...

I seem to be the same as a number of others not bothering at all with main quests. Just looking for loot/junk, settlement stuff, getting xp off bad guys and beast and I love it!

I feel like charisma has no effect on anything. It's seemingly useless and I regret investing it so heavily at the start.

You're crazy. If you didn't put much into charisma you're basically screwed for conversations and settlements, unless you feel like having a whole outfit just for conversations - but then you're screwed for conversations that take you by surprise.

I have a confession to make re: base building...

I had no idea power pylons just broadcast generator power in a radius. I've been trying to connect wires to EVERYTHING.

Here's a hot tip: switches basically do the same as power pylons, but they take less materials and can also be switched off. It's not stated, but they also have that radius of power.

Anyone else have this problem with sanctuary / other settlements?

My settlers group up behind this one house:

It's a bit annoying when traders get stuck there.

Are you assigning settlers to do things? Because otherwise they all seem very gung-ho on taking care of a single plant.

the Mysterious Stranger is tripping me out. like seriously caught me off guard. The first time it happened I thought it was a coincidence but no, he in fact has multiple lines of dialogue about him and presumably has theories about who he is. But the Mysterious Stranger is like the most videogamey thing ever. I feel like the 4th wall is breaking apart, time to go to bed

Ohhhhh, thanks! What do capacitors do, then? Just extend wire length?

20 hours in, still got a few quests I wanna get done before heading to the big city

Killed a legendary radstag, bit disappointed with the way the armour piece he dropped looks, got it upgraded and equipped though

Accepted a quest to
Take back the minutemen's castle
, hope it isn't on a timer

Finally got around to upgrading a hunting rifle to replace the pipe sniper rifle

Stats aren't much better, but it looks damn good

Can you actually get the prize from the
Port-A-Diner near Graygarden[/spoiler ]?

I think so, but then again I don't have a problem extending wires super long distances. I just attach the wire to the thing and then move the thing, wire seems to stretch to infinity.

lol, I think you greet people differently when you're drunk.
Finally managed to get a shot of our character. We're level 19, I just levelled us up from doing some heavy duty building.

For those who wanted to see what playing Fallout 4 on low settings with a graphics card less than 2GB looks like, here ya go:

Holds up well enough!

Do something about that bloom though!

I just spent about 5 hours in and around Diamond City, and I didn't get bored once. I love how all the characters interact with each other, every person makes the city unique. This game really is special.

yeah, this game is just chock full of a surprising amount of little shit like that. Man, I'm halfway through a mission and a character confronted me because he believed me to have killed his
---son---
. I was caught off guard by this so I went online and lo and behold, every little decision I make during that quest has consequences and branching paths and whatnot... I'm really impressed by some of the things this game is doing over its predecessor, Bethesda really stepped their game up in a couple of neat ways. This game stomps all over pretty much every game I've played of theirs since Morrowind.
it's really something watching these other threads go down, people who don't know dick about this game telling people what it is and isn't. Their loss tho, lmao

Oh, one other big question:

Does xp required to level grow exponentially as you get higher in level, or is the base xp requirement to level the same say from 11 to 12 as it is from 49 to 50?

The
castle quest
isn't timer based.

From my experience i would say it the requirement goes up, but it's a small increase each time.

Can I do something about it? Where's the setting? I hadn't really noticed it because we play it on the couch an adequate distance from the TV.

Also I noticed other people saying you could only turn "God Rays" to low, but I seem to be able to turn it off entirely from the game's launcher. Or is that the wrong "God Rays" setting?

Are you assigning settlers to do things? Because otherwise they all seem very gung-ho on taking care of a single plant.

Yeah they have their jobs, traders still work even though they arent at their shop. I think I will go nuclear on those fences and relocate the farm to see if that fixes it.

Sorry if this was discussed...too many pages and i am afraid of spoilers.
- What is the point of having a base or multiple bases? Do they bring resources? New missions?
- i only have one base (Sanctuary) and i built only what was required in the tutorial quest. Later I tried to add more beds but populAtion did not increase from original 5.
- I finished the "first steps" quest. Are there aditional tutorial quests later on? Or maybe some base festures unlocl later?
- can game be finished if i just ignore base biluilding? Will that impact the story?

Tnx

I feel I am alone on this when I say that I absolutely hate Valentine's voice actor. His voice is just sooo bad and Bethesda keeps hiring him. He voiced belethor and many others in skyrim too always cringed when I heard his voice. Anyone else feels like me?

Resource and some missions, yeah
You have to do other things to get people. Create a generator and a recruitment radio signal
Nope, no other tutorials
Nah, it doesn't affect the story AFAIK

I'm glad I'm not the only one who plays on weak hardware. Character looks good, certainly better than what I cooked up.

Almost came here earlier because I wanted to talk about how I really loved his voice :(

Also Skinny Malone's as well, although I immediately recognized that voice actor.

edit: well I guess my recognition skills aren't as stronk as I had thought. He sounded to me like that guy who voiced half of the NCR in Fallout New Vegas

thanks guys

I just noticd mods in your inventory have...weight. like half a kilo each O_o

are all these mods the ones you DONT have attached to guns? if so we can just toss / stash them all right? or are the ones on your guns always in that list, anyone know?

im gonna save and toss them all and see what happens to the guns I guess

edit: yup holy shit, all those mods are just dead weight, damn.

I swear as good as the gameplay is I feel like just going back to play New Vegas or at least wait like 6 months for mods to fix everything. I wasn't prepared for just how bad the dialogue and writing turned out to be.

I LOVE TMS.
So now i have to use nick.
Max luck plus maxed out TMS perk.
Hes like a companion at that point lol.

Stash the base mods. That way, when you see a gun with a mod you like, you can apply the base mod onto that gun at no cost, which puts the mod you want into your inventory.

The dialogue system is disappointing and they didn't do enough with it to make it feel satisfying. The main quest "Unlikely Valentine" is pretty reactive to your gameplay decisions and the things that you choose to say, and if the entire game was like that, I wouldn't even miss the old dialogue system half as much as I do. But it's not.

With that said, Bethesda has definitely improved upon their Fallout writing - that may not be apparent at the beginning of the game but 30-some hours into it I've literally only heard one set of dialogue that made me cringe (some holotape about two lab technicians somewhere, I forget where but the writing and VA were both really bad) whereas by this point in a Fallout 3 playthrough I would have already

pretended Moira didn't exist
shot Nathan in the face THE ENCLAV-blfsplish
set Dr. Lazko on fire
massacred a subway full of stupid vampires
removed McCready's essential flag so that I could beat him to death with a hammer
nuked the town of
Canterbury Commons

and so on

I have almost reached the end of the main quest. The main quest is quite interestingly structured I really wonder what people will think about it. I can give a hint if you want on what I mean:D

Confronting
Kellogg
was... Odd.
3 dialogue choices where every single one of the 4 options was essentially the same. First one was "where's Shaun" in either angry voice, angry voice, angry-desperate voice or very angry mom voice, to which Kellogg answered "not a baby anymore, he's with the Institute" or a slight variation.
Second was "where's the Institute", same tones of voice, to which he answered "I don't know/they find you" or similar, each reply giving the same amount of information - none.
Last one was "I'll kill you now" where you could give an angry reply, angry reply, sarcastic reply or determined reply.

Why have dialogue options at all if they do essentially nothing? Why not just let him deliver his speech when I enter the room and then start shooting me? This fucking dialogue

I think most agree that FO4 is better written than FO3 - but that's not really saying much.

Yeah they have their jobs, traders still work even though they arent at their shop. I think I will go nuclear on those fences and relocate the farm to see if that fixes it.

The fences in that area are so badly placed. I nuked them myself - same goes for any gates they might get stuck on.

It irks me that settlers can't open or close doors. WHY CAN YOU ADD DOORS WHEN THEY CANNOT DO THIS?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who plays on weak hardware. Character looks good, certainly better than what I cooked up.

Thanks, my girlfriend (who handles combat, I like building) is somehow a master at these character creators. She spent like an hour on Becky. She made my Mass Effect 2 and 3 characters back in the day as well (when you're allow to reconstruct your face) after she saw the horrible job I did with my Mass Effect 1 femshep.

So any point to having the cows in your base?
I've got one random one that seems to be stuck to a trough that I now can't move, but I don't know what to do with it
I just killed it (after re arranging my hole base) and then was attacked by everyone including codsworth (breaks my heart) so they're obviously not for that

Just wanna know before I build more troughs and waste the ceramic
