Xenoblade X Eurogamer Preview: Maybe 2015's Most Impressive Open World

I sort of read between the lines of the import thread and figured this was too much of an offline MMO.

But these previews are pretty damn positive. Sure, the quest structure is simple but maybe it's all about the exploration experience.

isn't there online co op too?

back on the radar now I suppose.

Is there a comparison with JUST the basic data pack?

I read in the import thread that it had a “bigger” impact on loading times than the other 3.

I decided to skip Fallout in favor of this game. I don't really have the time for both games, and this looks a lot more appealing/interesting to me.

Some previews have stated this but is it true that the game has no framedrops whatsoever? That'd be a nice improvement over Xenoblade Wii which slowed down whenever things got busy (and particularly during an early game boss fight). I find it somewhat hard to believe though.

I mean, that's not true. The fetch quests in Xenoblade X become increasingly frustrating since they're not a guaranteed drop. It's one of the worst things about this game.

Also, World of Warcraft has a lot more quest variety than Xenoblade X, so yeah, the two games aren't all that comparable because one is vastly superior to the other in this regard.

How quickly did you got bored of the game (XCX) as a result, in your opinion?

I'm sure I saw some in a video when they were flying over New LA, but to be fair, it may have just been the video. Would be really nice if it really was a solid framerate all the time, but given how high you can go and the view you get.. Well I won't be mad at all if it drops a little, purely because of what it's doing.

Most of the time it's a real solid 30fps, but you can see sometimes a little stuttering for example when you leave an area for another one or a framerate drop when you destroy a part of a monster (blood effect can bring a little framerate drop). Other than this, it's really solid.

Not sure if this has already beeen answered but how long is the game? Will this need more than 100 hours? Of course, I don't mean to complete everything, but still taking your time exploring the overworld and doing quests.

Can someone answer this please, because it apparently got lost to the talk about the data packs.

Thanks. Hopefully still an improvement over the original's slowdown.

+ ~ The online stuff so far seems kind of blah. There is some asynchronous stuff going on, but do I really need to have a constant feed of the achievements other people have unlocked? I don't think it adds much to the game, but I still need to test some modes out.

What exactly is the online offering? Can I meet up with friends in a lobby and go out and do quests a la Monster Hunter? If so I'll be happy.

For the most part it's 4 player raid missions.
You fight the biggest and baddest monsters in the world with your friends for some amazing loot.

Same. Can come back to Fallout 4 in a year to a full game with all the dlc and fixed by the community so it was an easy choice.

You should. There's nothing like hoping into your own custom giant Mechs and beating down creatures 100 times your size with 3 friends.

Is there a website or somewhere to take a look to screenshots taken directly from the Wii U of this game?? Especially those bad ass landscapes it has. Thanks!

I bought fallout the other day and I kinda wish I would've taken your approach. It's fine and everything but that's about as enthusiastic as I've been able to get for it.

Thank you!! How could I forgot Miiverse?? I took the risk and clicked the link and I'm now in full rejoice mode with those beautiful screenshots. Indeed I think I already spoiled myself with lot's of stuff there but oh well. I'm 90% sure I'm not going to finish the game anyways ha. But I'm definitely getting the game on day one just to walk around and admire those landscapes!

So hows the story? I loved Xenoblade Chronicles not only for the world and gameplay but I LOVED the story and its characters. Is this gonna be similar??

A lot of places are saying that they're inferior to the original, but these places have only played around 30 hours of what seems to be a 100 hour game, so I'd probably wait until the reviews are out. The original took a while for the story to pick up too imo.

Dunno why you'd walk when you can run and jump really far (or at least, that's shown up in a lot of videos, maybe you can't do that until later).
Pretty sure you can do stuff like that right away. And eventually you get the mech and vehicle mode to make travel faster. And later still mechs can gain a flight pack. Plus fast travel is a thing

If after 30 hours your story isn't any good, that's baaaad thing. =x

You can easily finish the main story line in 50 hours or less.

Given most English copies are review copies, I don't think many people playing the English version are speeding through the story at that type of rate

I know. I'm just saying that it's not difficult to reach the end of the story after 50 hours played. And that's not even a speed run. That's while doing a decent amount of side stuff and tackling the main story missions as they come up. I imagine a true speed run would be something closer to 30 hours. I'm not trying to imply the game is short in any way. There's a ton of stuff to do, but I find it a bit disingenuous to call it a "100 hour game" strictly in regards to the main plot. It could easily be a 1000 hour game if you wanted to engage in all of that multiplayer stuff.

I don't think any of the previews have said anything bad about the story. Just that it's not the "focus".
