Xenoblade X Eurogamer Preview: Maybe 2015's Most Impressive Open World

pfft 30 whole hours for any%

yeah right

You mean it's way too high? I guess I don't follow the speed running community enough. They'd probably find a way to do it in under 10.

I more meant for someone who was using a guide to power through the main story and do as little side content as possible.

The thing with Riki is you were supposed to think he was this joke character comic relief and he was actually a father who has lived a long life and knows his shit, he just doesn't show his hand very often.

Also he could be real useful in battle, especially against UMs.
Yup, he's pretty legit in battle, I think he has the highest HP iirc

I want more of this game but I also don't want spoilers. Ugghghgh.

When the game came out in Japan I saw a streamer with
a really boss and different to all the others looking mech that I guess was endgame stuff because I haven't seen it anywhere else
and it spoiled it so bad. It also made me really look forward to the game because it just looked so awesome.

i just finished listening to the Q&A and Chuggaaconroy and Derrick both said they've been enjoying the story and the characters so far. They did mention that a large amount of character focus is tied to affinity quests and that people who want to know more about the party members should play through those.

What surprised me a bit is that they both think Cross works better than they expected. I know Chuggaa was pretty disappointed when Cross was revealed to be a silent character last year, but he doesn't seem to mind as much after playing a good chunk of the game. He and Derrick just wish the player choices for Cross could have had voice acting.

Sounds like they're both enjoying the game.

Interesting, they say the story is well-written and the characters have depth rather than fitting into any sort of JRPG tropes.

Oh? This is good news and unexpected based on what people have been saying about people's experiences with other people's impressions of other people's hands-on impressions.

only thing I'm worried about is that the plans I have for my character and mech end up being unfeasible/shit tier/whatever. I want a tanky, survivable aggro-holding main guy and a heavy melee-focused mech. Preferably with a pile bunker (I know these exist in the game in some fashion).

You can definitely do this. You have control over what class and skills you focus on and you Skells have a ton of weapon options.

well yeah but to clarify I'm a relentless minmaxer in RPGs and I'll naturally gravitate to whatever is strongest rather than what I think is cool. But at least as long as playing the party tank is viable, I'll do that.

Also I read your post in Shulk's voice. Speaking of which I wonder if I'll use his voice on a male character or just say screw it and roleplay as Mitsuru.

Anyways - I just picked Xenoblade back up last night, still fumbling but I think I can get this game done in time. It seems before I stopped playing over a year ago I'd set my party up to main Melia. It's been surprisingly easy to get back into the battle system, I just completely forgot how the entire talent tree system works and I have no clue what's going on with my equipment. I really need to finish this kind of game all at once because it's so much harder to get back into them.

Gamexplain uploaded a Q&A with Chuggaaconroy and Derrick giving some of their thoughts on the game.

I don't know if the footage contains spoilers or not because I just have the audio on with the window minimized.

Will watch later tonight. Looking forward to hearing Emile's thoughts.

I follow someone who had played the game and went the route of solo and DPS. Basically made a build that'll kill anything before reaching Overdrive MAX. I imagine there are gear and devices or augments to make a tank with good resistances. Though I find myself lean to Evasion in Xenoblade Chronicles, so I'll probably do the same here.

I'm pretty sure that Xenoblade X has a feature that you can unlock that allows you to change your gear while still having the stats of the old gear.

Yes, but it's unlocked after clearing the main story. Unless that's changed with the localization.

The best thing I learned from that Q&A is the fact you have:

- Wear Armor as "Vanity", so you can, for example, have everyone in their Bikinis, but still have the armor rating of a God.

- Disable Headgear. Perfect for Cutscenes.

Aw man...

I can't believe this is finally coming out. So hyped!!!!

The soundtrack is freakin' awesome too.

Couldn't disagree more. Everything I hear aside from the daytime exploration music sounds terrible. The NLA theme, both day and night absolutely haunt me with how horrible they are.
Other than that though, THIS GAME IN MY VEINS

This is a 4+ hours soundtrack so you might as well have heard nothing

I've listened to the entire soundtrack three times and he's right. It's mostly loud, bombastic garbage but some of it grew on me, in all fairness. I can live with it but it's not good imo.

I'm ambivalent about the NLA theme, but every other field theme is really really good (where the exploration happens). I've had to force myself to stop listening to the OST just to keep the music fresh while playing the game.

Judging by all these previews being extremely positive.
I think it might get around an 89 like MM on metacritic.
I am extremely hyped and have the game preordered!

GameInfomer has released a Test Chamber on Xenoblade X.

More complaints about gated story missions.

I think that'll be a sticking point in reviews. In Xeno Wii you could choose whether you wanted to do a ton of exploring. grinding, quest completing, etc, or if you just wanted to do a bit of grinding and complete story missions. Xeno X is basically saying, "This game is about exploration. You have to play it this way." Especially when it comes to stuff like needing to explore a certain percentage of the map.

Kotaku old preview crushed my hype a while ago, then I still decided to pre-order as I barely use my wiiu... Best idea ever, game sound awesome! Can't wait for December to come!

I believe it is immediate with the DLC (that is paid). Again, unless that changed with localization.

The way its brought up in the Test Chamber video makes me think its included from the start on the NA version. The DLC is included on the NA version, so that means its likely the functionality is already there from the beginning.
