Kinda wish they just kept the Afternoon of Darkness subtitle.
Yeah, it's a petty complaint but I kinda hope they rename it between now and February. "Disgaea PC" just looks kinda weird to me. :/

I'm really surprised they are porting the first one. I expected Disgaea 5.
You're correct in that regard (being Japanese), but turn-based/tactics stuff typically gets a lot of love on PC regardless. I'd say it was less of being starved, and more about the PC audience loving that particular style of gameplay. The amount of 4X and cRPG's that have been pumping out on PC that use turn-based tactical gameplay has been insane lately, and it's down to poor market research that more Japanese devs haven't already got in on that.
I feel I'm the only one that doesn't care about this in today's gen.
Seriously, the sprites on the right are messed to hell and beyond. WTF!In any case, I vastly prefer xBRZ over what they use in Disgaea PC:

Which Disgaea is this? 5? A new one?

Disgaea 1.
Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness PSP version ported to PC.Which Disgaea is this? 5? A new one?
No I dont think the PC was starved for turn based tactical games like VC and Disgaea. Instead I think they are a natural fit given all the turn based games and players that are already on the platform
The first disgaea game is hardly "major". It's 13 years old at this pointAtlus has to be soon at this point. Seems every major JPN dev/pub has brought something major over at this point.
Crazy...

nds port countsIt's NIS's flagship series and outside of one brief port, the series has been exclusive to Playstation platforms for its entire lifetime.

Disgaea 1 with the enhancements made in the PSP port, plus miscellaneous Steam features.
it really does, I wonder why people have been ignoring that ahahaha
Starting with 1 is ok, but I think they should jump right to 5 with the next one. They might have a rough time sustaining interest with a slow release of 2-3-4 over a few years.
As long as they don't take too long between releases (a few months apart at most) and price them accordingly, I think it should be fine. Releasing D1-3 within a single year at 15 bucks each would be fairly reasonable.
I have to ask though: "The legendary Disgaea series is coming to Steam!"
Are there any potential plans for bringing any of the other Disgaea entries to Steam as well?
NIS PR said:As for more Disgaeas coming to STEAM, Im gonna crib a verse from the PR bible and say, If it does well, we definitely want to consider more titles going forward.![]()

Which is what he's talking about when he says "outside of one brief port"
^_~ you read my mind. Oh I love the handheld but Disgaea 5 has just improved on so many aspects that I don't know what I would do without some of the features they have on it.Exactly.
NISA would be nuts to put out Disgaea 5 first.
1. It would require the most effort to port. The first four Disgaea titles are available on the PSP/Vita, while D5 is PS4-only.
2. Disgaea 1 is the most well-known entry in the series. The sequels improve on the original game substantially, but it still has a place in the hearts of many gamers.
3. If NIS put out D5 on PC first...What could they do next? Nobody is going to buy D1-4 if they already have the latest and greatest installment. By starting with D1, NIS can put out the other entries every few months and create a steady stream of revenue. Maybe they'll take chances on other games like Phantom Brave and Makai Kingdom as well.
4. It's not like the prequels are all that obsolete compared to D5 either. The handheld Disgaea games received numerous enhancements, so they're still pretty fresh.
This is a major opportunity for NIS, because tactics-based RPGs are extremely few and far between on Steam. Even Square-Enix can't be assed to put FFT on the service, which is absolutely mind-boggling.
i wonder how nisa will roll out 3,4 and d2
they could release 3 & 4 vita ports with all the dlc, or they could possibly nickle and dime more people with their outrageous dlc prices lol >_>
It's not just the DLC, but significant amounts of new content and quality of life upgrades. They'd be crazy to port D3/D4 PS3.
oh i know, but the prices are bad, it's just a possibility despite it being impractical
they'll probably port the vita versions since they're porting the psp version of 1

I thought the season pass for 5 was reasonably priced. I got a lot of bang for my butt![]()
yeah it was in comparison to the others, i just remember 3s was pretty uh out there, $50 for the season pass and like $3 a character lol
I got my first 1080p monitor in 2007 or 2008, forgive my memory here
For reference, Android 1.0 was released in 2008.
Your face right now.
