About the courser main quest.
How does the protagonist know the deactivation code? It was one of the option and I was able to deactivate the courser.
Any info on this is appreciated.

Yea fuck Bethesda, I wish they made me go through four loading screens and have to swap around the companion inventories instead, that's what fun is to me.

Suspension of disbelief is a big part of what lets me get into games, personally and that little moment really bothered me.

He could have just said, "maybe if we could get a dog to track the scent..." instead of specifically referring to a character he had never met.

It's a small thing, but that really took me out of the moment.

I would rather they at least make an effort to do better than that. That was pretty indefensivle lol

Fair enough. I just sort of handwaved it as Dogmeat always traveling with your character even if you're not explicitly taking him out as a companion (since he cannot work at a settlement like the others). Not the neatest segue but certainly not "shit-tier writing" either.

I'm doing now x5.3 sneak damage with guns. xD Sandman is multiplicative instead of a flat increase. So x3.5 with Ninja *1.5 instead of +0.5. It's so broken together. lol

I thought siding with the BoS locked you out of minutemen stuff, I guess not

also,
The Institute
is a godsend for laser ammo. Im in heaven

edt: oh shit,
Synth Gorillas
:o wnder if you fight any lol

Nah, the only faction you get locked out of is The Institute obviously. Well the Railroad too, but that's par for the course given Brotherhood's hatred of synths.

Also yeah, energy weapon cells everywhere with that. Loved it!

I haven't been addicted to a game like this in... what feels like years. No matter how much I play I want to play more because I feel like I've accomplished nothing.

Also on the topic of settlements - they seem to grow over time and as you liberate more areas. My ex-main area
(Castle)
is up to 15 population.

Decided to move my main hub to the
Drive-In
because it's so open I can make a completely awesome city with my own imagination. Already got my weapon emporium, working on the other stalls as I get more bottle caps.

Argh. Want to play more.

Hopefully someone can clarify this for me.

I understand that workbench shares its contents with all other benches in a particular settlement.

What about when you build say a generator and then "store it in workshop", or you store a chair in the settlement that already exists in workshop?

I appears to me it does not store it in the actual workbench, and not in your inventory, it just remembers it in the workshop build menu. So if I built a generator, and stored it in workshop, then decided I wanted to build another, but only have parts for one generator, it will say (2) next to it, indicating I can build 2 generators, 1 I have the parts for, and then one I already built.

Things you store in workshop appear to be tied to that settlement also, correct?

I did the quest up until he asked me to join brotherhood, but I hate military structure so I rejected the offer and it seems most people don't like them, Piper had some sarcastic comment about it after we left, yeah I'm not feeling those guys.

Do all NPC have different skills or abilities for combat? I could tell dogmeat was really awesome at distracting enemies and keeping them still. I can't tell with Piper all the time, she seems to be getting better as time goes on, and she's not much of a fighter so I'm surprised I never hear much about how she actually feels about combat.

16 hours in and haven't even entertained Diamond City, I'd this standard for most folks?

Doesn't really offer much to begin with. I only find myself ever going there because I know they have a doctor for when I run out of Radaway. Other than that I've only done a one sidequest and the main quest there.

29 hours, level 11, only 8 quests done in total. (optional ones too not even main story ones.).

Not even close to Diamond City.
I have a lot of Nuka Quantums though :p (like 5) and I just cleared Cervega.

aparently the minutemen is always safe whoever you go with. siding with one of the other locks you out of the 2 other major ones

Man, fuck the Jetpack, you guys need to put a Tesla Coil on your power armor. Deathclaws ain't shit.

I'm gonna have to try that

Just for shits and giggles, I set my level from 11 to 275 and got all the perks. Holy crap, you can just look at people wrong and they're goners. Even with my dinky ass 10mm pistol, I killed things that would obliterate me before. Alas, I'm back to the normal game now, but now I have something to look forward to.

Thought there was a level cap? If not, AWESOME. I want to be God of the Wasteland.

Welp, I held off on the whole "building" thing for my settlement, because my gaming time is limited, and I'd rather get through the story.

Just spent a good 2 hrs tearing down everything in my settlement and building a house in Sanctuary.

How do I get clean water?

Any tips on how to hack? Even doing Novice hacking terminals it takes me FOREVER. Its like I am trying to decipher quantum mechanics.

It's not that hard, first chose a random word, if it has a likeness that means that the word has a correct letter in a correct position. So look for other words that have similar letters and similar positions and narrow down from there.

It's easier when you find a word with 0 correct characters, then you know at least what to not to look for. If the word "FOUR" has 0 matches, then you know to skip "LOOP" because it has an O in the second position. Or if a word has zero matches and ends in an "S" or an "ING" you know to skip all the words that end with S or ING.

Yeah...mmm. I must be brain dead or something because I find it very confusing and seem to get locked out all the time from not figuring it out.

Yeah that makes sense.

Just do the first 4 codes. The terminal only locks for 15 seconds if you fail.

If you do it like that. Best way is to do 3, then back out. Then you can retry without the lockout timer

Hacking definitely needs to be changed for future FO games, not to mention there needs to be more than just lock picking and hacking.

Little trick to make it painless is to just guess the first 3 words in order, if it's not any of those, quickly back out and mash the activate key to get back in, rinse and repeat.

Becomes more useful for Advanced/Expert terminals, don't really need to do it for Novice ones.

OK. I need some help. I'm level 10 and I'm on a mission where I need to follow the dog to find some guy and I think I hate this game. I looks bad, it runs bad, it doesn't play well... BUT I think it might be partially my fault. Am I under leveled for that part? Is there a good way to approach the missions in an order of difficulty? It feels like I'm missing something...

(FYI - I played Fallout 3 and never had this problem)

This settlement stuff is confusing.
I go to my settlement and everybody is like "You know, people have been complaining about the bed situation... not enough to go around"
I've got 14 beds and there are 10 of you I don't understand how this is a problem.

Also how do you make money from supply lines/shop stands? It says the store generates income, but I'm not sure how.

Really loving this game so far. The first 5-10 hours or so felt like I was looking to find something to attract me tbh, but as soon as I started building/improving my Sanctuary settlement, it all clicked. Been having a blast going out and exploring the wasteland now, especially with the idea of scavenging anything I can to build up my epic tree-fort of doom. I especially like the companion
Nick Valentine
.

We just finished the quest at the
Memory
Den where
Valentine and I went into Kellogg's head.
That was actually one of the more memorable missions that I've played in a game in a long time. The way it was acted (especially the dialogue) was fantastic, from beginning to end. Also loved that little glitch at end where
you hear a distorted Kellogg speaking through Nick.
What does this mean?!?!

Aside from that, still a little confused with how to trade and fully use the supply lines. Disappointed with the lack of info, but first-hand is the best way to learn I guess

Weird glitch in Lost Patrol quest. I've done everything to a point where it asks me to "speak to Danse" to complete the quest. The problem is - he already took me to the Airport before I finished the Patrol quest and now he's a companion and I can trade/talk to him, but there isn't an option to tell him that I completed the quest. How do I complete it now?

I wish settlements had large wave defenses and similar challenges. It's annoying to fast travel to a settlement only to see 5 super mutants get murdered by my defenses. Like, why did you even need my help? 86 hours in though and I kinda just wanna rush to the end so I have stuff to do on my second playthrough.

13 hours in and I haven't even had a glimpse of Diamond City yet. Don't think I'll be entering any time soon as long as I have a lot to explore and side missions to complete.

15 hours later and I'm finally going to Diamond City for the first time lol.

I am 60 hours in and I haven't entered Diamond City. In fact, I have barely done any quests except those connected to settlement building.

I have no idea how you don't get bored of the game.

I'm 45 hours in and I'm starting to tire and I've nearly finished the game.

Ugh The USS Constitution quest is bugged for me. I'm at the point where I need to enter the Corvega Assembly Plant, but entering any of the doors glitches the game to a black screen and a continual loop of sound effects. The game crashes and I have to reload, but I cant get in there to get the part :(

sooooo, after going to
the institute
(do we still need to spoiler this after 1 week? like doesnt everyone know what the 4 factions are by now? anyway), you get a new type of Railroad sidequest, to kill
coarsers
. But either its a bug or its because I j
oined the institute
, they dont retaliate. neither do any synths near them lol. easiest quest ever, and they have nice loot on them too.
