2. Death Note
3. Gurren Lagann
4. Spirited Away
5. Princess Mononoke

I'll just choose TV shows.

1. Dragonball -Nostalgic memories and having rewatched it recently it's still a good anime to boot
2. Dragonball Z -It's not a good anime but it has too much of an impact on my childhood to not mention it
3. Haruhi Suzumiya -Just enjoyed everything about it
4. Cowboy Bebop - It's a series that I can always go back to and never get bored
5. Eyeshield 21 - It's amazing that Japan can make football more exciting than the real thing.

Yeah I'm a casual.

4. Battle Angel Alita
5. Ghost in the Shell

Just series??

Gunbuster
Escaflowne
Giant Robo
Dennou Coil
Berserk

Probably... Can't put them in order either. There's still a lot of classics I haven't seen yet. From the New World should probably be on my list, but it's seriously lacking in the animation department. A great story and incredible soundtrack really set it apart though.

It's really hard for me to boil it down to five cause I feel bad leaving out so many other favorites, but at this point in time (sticking to just series) it would probably be:

1. Gurren Lagann
2. Cowboy Bebop
3. Mushishi
4. Detroit Metal City
5. Monster

Edit: since we're doing honorable mentions -- Samurai Champloo, Haruhi Suzumiya, GTO, Usagi Drop, FMA? Fumoffu, Evangelion, Hajime no Ippo, Death Note.

Movies that aren't based on series I already mentioned -- Whisper of the Heart, Princess Mononoke, Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade, Wings of Honneamise, Tokyo Godfathers.

Bakemonogatari
The iDOLM@STER
FLCL
Nichijou
Steins;Gate

Fifth one is kind of a toss up honestly, it was the first to come to mind. If movies count then I'd put Tokyo Godfathers instead.

I've got a weird thing where I don't list movies and shounen anime for some reason, but there is easily some stuff out there that is top 5 material. That would include Samurai X, Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya and Hunter X Hunter/Gintama (aka the greatest shounen animes of all TIME!). One-Punch Man might take Bakemono's place at the rate it's going.

Oblivion

Fetishing muscular manly men in skintight hosery
Not in any particular order, even though they're numbered:

1. Slayers
2. Tenchi Muyo/Universe (NOT that miserable shitpile that was Tokyo)
3. Kenichi: The Ultimate Disciple
4. Rurouni Kenshin
5. Yu Yu Hakusho

I really like crazy series or shows with a strong focus on characters.

Hmm. Movies and OAVs included?

I'd probably have to go:

1. The Castle of Cagliostro
2. Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer
3. City Hunter TV
4. Space Adventure Cobra 1982 TV and film
5. Project A-ko

Honorable mention: Golgo 13: The Professional, Akira, Megazone 23 part 1, My Neighbor Totoro, Nadia, Wings of Honneamise, Maison Ikkoku, Future Boy Conan, Dragon Ball, Cat's Eye...etc. Too much good shit.

Rhaknar

The Steam equivalent of the drunk friend who keeps offering to pay your tab all night.
Ill name the 5 that come to mind imediatly when I think about anime because I have fallen off the genre too much to do a proper ranking.

One Piece
Trigun
Cowboy Bebop
Great Teacher Onizuka
And of course Dragon Ball because nostalgia

As you can see, besides OP I havent been up with anime for the last 15 or so years lol.

I watched 2 thirds of Kill La Kill but didnt finish it for some reason. I was loving it as a parody but then it got to a point which made me think "if a fanservice parody has the same T&A if not more than the normal fanservice anime, is it still a parody?"

I'm really impressed with your tastes! Nobody ever talks about Urusei Yatsura, and I'd argue its one of Rumiko Takahashi's best works, if not the best! Lum is such a lovable character.
