Ninja Scroll holds a place in my heart for sentimental reasons. As odd as that sounds. And I love every last Ghibli film.

They may not be objectively the best, but I really adore all of them. Though five is pretty limiting, there are a lot more I would mention on the top for me like Black Lagoon or HxH.

The lack of Death Note in many lists is baffling.

(Yu Yu Hakusho, Saint Seiya, Captain Tsubasa, first season of Digimon, Clannad and Full Metal Alchemist could easily enter a top 10 list)

I'm leaving out so much great, great stuff, but I think this is the cream of the crop for me. No particular order, and these aren't necessarily what I consider the 'best' series I've seen... but they're all my favorites.

Movies is an even harder list to whittle down (so much temptation to have, like, 4 Ghibli films), but:

  • 5 Centimeters per Second
  • Kiki's Delivery Service
  • Sword of the Stranger
  • Wolf Children
  • The Girl Who Leapt through Time
More or less the same criteria as with the series. My top 10 for both series & movies are probably mostly interchangeable though.

Everything on this is top tier. Although I haven't seen a couple here, Utena and Spice and Wolf. But they've been in my backlog for a long, long, long, long, long, long time now.

1) Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood (After a long break from anime it got me back into it)
2) HunterXHunter 2011 Loved the hcaracter bilidng and it didn't have random Nakama power ups in the middle of a fight.
3) DBZ (Nostalgia reasons)
4) Death Note (It essesntially made me branch out from the typical adventure action anime)
5) Nisekoi (In my opinion one of the only romance anime that kept me interested)

Avatar The Last Airbender.
It is a western cartoon but does have a lot of japanese anime influences. For a long time I thought it was anime.

Attack On Titan and One Punchman
Both these anime could take a place in my current list just need to see more of it. One Punchman could take top spot from what I have seen.

Immediately following that:
- Tied between Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Cardcaptor Sakura
+ a sizeable amount of honorable mentions.

I don't like ranking things, I've realized.

The Filler arcs are also garbage most of the time. Like the Chunin Exams in Suna...
Main villain just comits suicide, because Gaara said something.
It felt like they ended it abruptly, because people were mad about 4 months of Fillers.

It's pretty sad, because the main story is on such high quality, that the Fillers really don't do the show any justice.
