The very generic and overly broad way of putting it is that... sexuality in Japan is quite commoditized. But that ultimately is only one facet of the thing.

But when it comes to overt sexuality both from just a visual perspective or a storytelling perspective,both non-fictional & fictional content don't do that without a clear intent of restricting their audiences to "Adults Only."

I thought Cero Z was the adults only? I mean there are a lot of physical copies out there of games like Sexy Beach Zero which are just straight up eroge/hentai games. Or will retailers in Japan just stock adult games regardless if it not having a Cero rating?

You think? They look like animated real dolls. A few skin imperfections, split hair ends and different body sizes would make them look a lot more realistic.

i would have liked for them to be a bit more realistic as well but i think that may take away from the doa style they've built up over the years. Was also really hoping to be blown away with next gen doa but they simply look just a bit better, oh well.

As far as I know CERO only rates console games (apart from few exceptions) and they don't rate all those eroges on PC. They are different.

Yea I remember back in the days Sega Saturn had lots of eroges.... the rating standards were quite different back then.

CERO Z isn't the equivalent of AO, but I believe they do have to be placed apart from other games on store shelves.

That's really bizarre. I thought Japan was more progressive with sexuality in their games, but if that's true, then it kinda isn't.

So, Japanese Witcher, God of War, and GTAV all have blank boobs or said scenes removed all together. They're already rated Z.

It's complicated: It's perfectly fine to put naked bodies, public bath scenes, (a totally normal activity in Japan) sexually suggestive situations, etc. in anime and games as long as their crotch and nipples are covered.

There's an anime where people eat food so delicious that it gives them orgasms while their clothes explode, LOL.

So you could say they're a lot more "progressive" as long as they don't show naughty bits.

Those games don't have CERO ratings.
They are 18+, but that is because you can't sell pornography to minors.
And let's not forget that Japan is a country where even in pornography genitalia is censored.
Games can be lewd and suggestive on consoles, but you still can't show certain things. Personally I prefer it that way.
