Not at all, typing in Japanese is super easy no matter what you're going for. My guess is that since she's part German they're using katakana to signify that she's an outsider. For instance if you look at Kasumi's name, they use hiragana due to her being pure Japanese. Fun Japanese cultural purity lesson if true.
