Assassin's Creed Syndicate PC Performance Thread

Is this game really that demanding? Here recently I've been getting stutters that freeze my whole screen for a few seconds(I can still hear the game)and then it resumes. Frame rate drops from 60 to 0. It's like the CPU is struggling to keep up or something. That very expensive 5960X looks very appealing after 2015. More and more games are beginning to take advantage of four cores. Syndicate WAS running very well for me, but I can honestly say after a few more hours of playtime, that's no longer the case.

I have the freezes occasionally. Think it's just an engine thing because, like you said, the audio continues and the game always unfreezes itself.

shadows on high wtih txaa x2 and everything else on the highest settings 50-60 fps at 1440p on a single titan x. Seems alright. Hope they fix sli so i can turn up the shadows, the shimmering shadows on high settings when moving annoy the heck out of me

Seems like you'd be in for a better looking game running PCSS shadows and a lower AA solution... Especially since you're already running at 1440p.

The Steam version has a couple of updated beta branches titled "ww_d1_patch" and "rus_d1_patch", so it seems there was supposed to be launch day update for the PC version but it was postponed for additional work (bodes well for a cloth physics fix). Speaking of the Steam version, Ubi (or perhaps Valve) finally removed the section_type = ownersonly flag from the app, so the game will now display on your Steam Community profile and related posts will now appear in your activity feed.

I'm running it at 1440p and the temporal aliasing is really noticeable with fxaa by itself, and all around terrible without any AA at all.

Lowering environment quality from ultra to very high will gain some fps without any real noticeable downgrade to visuals, if the Nvidia guide is correct.

I seem to get 50-60 FPS with PCSS on, near perfect 60 with shadows on high and everything else on ultra +TAA or whatever it is.

I've experienced this also but I was very early into the game, actually I still am since I haven't played beyond the
fuses
thing yet. But I'm also on a OC'd 2500K so that's no help as to whether a CPU with more cores/multithreading are the solution.

Aside from the half rate cloth, I hope they fix the annoyance where some inventory items like that one god damn belt and that one god damn cape and those god damn dlc outfits stop being marked as new all the god damn time.

It's driving me up the walls.

I'm tempted to get this. I should wait. I've had a hard time sticking with AC games to the end but I just got a 2560x1440 IPS Gsync monitor and I've been running the more demanding games I own to see how my machine holds up to the higher resolution. AC Unity Maxed settings except 2x MSAA holds a 75-90 fps framerate and it looks so damn pretty. I know my machine is not typical but for how Unity looks that is impressive that it's possible at all. For all the grief the game got, while it is demanding and doesn't scale well on weaker hardware, it was never really unoptimized. Ubisoft just overshot when they estimated what next gen hardware would look like. They accidentally made a highend PC only release with a super mainstream franchise. Gameplaywise it wore thin and I hear this one holds up better.

Like I said in the other thread, they really did a very bad job on anti-aliasing with this game.

FXAA is disgusting but it's the only one that doesn't destroy the framerate.

Even with TXAA x4 you still get a lot of Aliasing, a lot !

It's very disappointing especially after Fallout 4's spectacular TAA.

Only drawback with F4's TAA is that everything gets blurry as soon as you move the camera. Otherwise I agree. Every piece of foliage is as sharp as it can be.

The newest patch fixed this thankfully, no idea when it'll release on pc tho.

"The Strand" borough seems to be too tough on my CPU for a solid 60. Weird cus it's not an issue in other boroughs, even in the really busy areas. Maybe not optimised as well?

Look in the B/S/T thread on the community side. I picked it up for $15. I have a 1440p Gsync monitor too and it does what all Gsync monitors do just fine.

Anyone rocking a 970/3570k? I just grabbed this cheap and I'm wondering if it's worth playing now or waiting. 60fps without dips is a must for me, turning down options isn't an issue to achieve this.

Do you need locked 60fps cutscenes? Cus that might be harder.

You're not gonna get anywhere near 60fps without dips at 1080p if you don't turn down options. I'm on a GTX 980ti/i7-6700k and have to turn down a lot to hit 60fps constantly. It looks glorious though.

I am running with everything on either High or Very High with HBAO+ Ultra and FXAA on a 970 and getting a pretty much locked 1080/60fps during gameplay except in a specific area, where my CPU can't keep up. What sort of settings are you using that won't let you hit that on an 980ti?

Which CPU are you using and what's it running at?

They're less important, but would prefer it.

Yeah as I said I have no issues tweaking settings, I'm very much a performance > visuals type of guy. And I may just hold out for a good patch or two, I have a decent backlog.

A stock i5 4590 @ 3.3GHz. In The Strand borough CPU usage hits 100% frequently and I drop frames because of it.

Also idk what goes on in the cutscenes but no fiddling seems to help there. It uses a very high quality DOF effect and obviously much higher poly character models so I get regular dips to the low 50s during cutscenes, especially when two or more high detail characters are in frame.

I can easyily hit 1080/60 by just turning PCSS to High and using FXAA with an i7 2600k and a 970. There must be something going on with your setup if you're having issues with a 980ti.

edit: *facepalm* should've read above me.

My settings are:

Environment quality: Ultra high
Textures quality: high
Shadows quality: high
Ambient occlusion: HBAO+
Anti-aliasing: FXAA

I could turn up AO a notch and still maintain 60fps 99.9% of the time, but I like my framerate to be constant, so I don't. The GTX 980 ti cannot maintain a locked 60fps if you turn on PCSS Ultra, HBAO+ Ultra and turn up AA. It's just not possible.

I misunderstood. I thought you meant you didn't want to turn down anything. Doh :)

Hmm apparently Ultra for environment quality has very little impact on the visuals but a high performance penalty. What resolution are you running the game at? Cus I would swap Ultra detail for HBAO+ Ultra.

You're right though, any AA that isn't FXAA is very expensive in this :P

No issues with my system. We're talking about 60fps at all times and that's not possible at max settings on a GTX 980 ti.

1080p. I could turn on HBAO+ Ultra and most would probably claim that the game was hitting a locked 60fps, but there are areas where that's not the case. I like my games to never drop and as such need a little extra overhead. I don't mind the slightly lowered settings. It's still one of the best looking games I've seen.

My 3570k is at 4.3GHz so hopefully that'll do the trick, my 970 is the MSI Gaming 4G so it's fairly overclocked out of the gate as well. It's downloading now but I want to finish Black Flag first which I'm about 40% done with.

Same here, if I get to an area that drops under 60 I lower my settings, I keep doing this until it's 60 smooth throughout.

So what's the deal with the free Steampunk Evie and Victorian Legends Jacob outfits and Steam? I could be blind, but I don't see them in-game anywhere. They show up on my Steam DLC list and are installed, but maybe I need to enable them in-game somewhere?

Halp?

go to E-Store in the in-game menu to see if you've enabled them/bought them

Maybe you will have to redeem some codes somewhere on uplay, i don't have the steam version

Going to the e-store and trying to buy the outfits will just open steam store in the steam overlay, and it shows me I own them.

What I ended up doing is I redeemed the associated "cd keys" in the uplay e-store interface and restarted, and that seems to have done the trick. Makes me wonder if that's how it's supposed to work, or if I ran into some kind of bug when I grabbed them in the first place and the uplay activation just didn't take the first time.

They are pretty awful outfits though.

Interesting I did that but it collapses into the upper left hand corner during normal gameplay. It reappears during loading screens. I wonder if it's an SLI only issue.

Someone posted the same question on the ubi forums, so I'll just post the same response here more or less.
I don't have any problems with afterburner on my end, and I also have uplay overlay enabled.
Tried changing the app detection level and the osd rendering mode? Mine is low and vector 3d respectively.
There's also an update to RTSS (6.4.0) that some people may not have gotten since Afterburner proper hasn't been updated in a while.

Were these normal oddities in the console version?

1. Thievess that you tackle have all been old ladies with male voices

2. Even if I buy items from a shopkeeper, he responds as if I didn't buy anything

3. Occasional flowers and trees floating from the ground

Have there been any announcements for a patch?

1. Some of the thieves are men disguised as women
2. Happens on PC too, I don't think it happens if you buy maps/gear from them
3. Probably not normal. :P

Did anyone find an aa method that can actually get rid of the jaggies/shimmering? Even downsampling from 4k doesnt do shit.
