2008-2011 AC games on PC were not noticeably improved on PC hence why they were very easy on the hardware, since ACIII PC versions have incorporated high-end features.

It seems you'd rather those improvements never have made it into the PC version so they would run as easily as past AssCreed games.

AC2 was hardly easy on hardware when running with 3D Nvidia Surround back in the day. Give me a break.

I have to admit, I can't quite understand your thought process with this post. I assume you can run the game better on your PC than your PS4? Then why not match console settings on your PC and go up from there?

Really bizarre. I can't blame developers if they hide higher-end graphics options in .ini files or something considering some of the posts I've seen in this thread.

Oh, I completely forgot about 3D Vision.

But beyond that I fail to see any tangible graphics improvements.

Your argument makes zero sense to me, those high-end graphical improvements are optional and this is a very good thing they are there.

I'm running an i7-6700k, Titan X, 32gb ram, SDD. Been building my own rigs since the early 90s. But I appreciate your basically calling me an idiot.

I'm not trying to call you an idiot, I'm saying that I don't understand why anyone with a sufficient PC wouldn't just start with console settings and go up from there, instead of starting at the top, getting frustrated, and going with...console settings.

Thanks for the advice. I went ahead and did that and the game is looking and running beautifully now. Only occasional crops in frame rate when it gets super busy. I don't know if maybe having 16 GB of CPU RAM is helping that or not.

Well, Ubi cares since you just paid them $120 for what is essentially one game. I'm sure they are happy.

But otherwise that's a really strange decision. Does PS4 version support 3440x1440 or have the cloth running at 60 fps? I'm more than sure that with your specs you can run the PC version at PS4 level of details while getting 60+ fps as a bonus. And you know that you can output to the same display, right? But whatever.
 
Shame the patch didn't address the cloth fps issue.

It's so noticeable, especially when climbing and jumping. It makes my whole character look jittery and displaced from the rest of the game world.

Maybe I'll convince myself it's just the Animus glitching out so I can finally start playing.

Been playing in 21.9 no problem. Is it the HUD?

Why not play it at 1920x1080 2560x1440 or higher at 16.9 with HBAO and PCSS on instead of playing at 1600x900 upscaled on PS4? I don't get it.
 
At 60Hz I'm getting constant stuttering no matter which settings I use.
970, i5 2500K @ 4.3GHz, 16GB RAM, Win 10, Latest updates, latest drivers.
Fantastic framerate, but because of the cloth physics mainly I've decided to crank up the settings a bit more (with VRAM being well under my card limit) and cap the framerate to 30.
Problem is that it constantly stutters while rotating the camera around. Really annoying. Any fixes? Borderless fullscreen, fullscreen, forced VSYNC does nothing.

Try 1/2 Refresh Rate vsync via Nvidia Inspector (standard, not adaptive) + 30 fps cap via RTSS. One locks refresh rate (30Hz), the other caps frametime (33.3ms). You usually need both for a smooth experience. Disable vsync in-game.

If you want to diminish input lag when capping to 30, you can also set Maximum pre-rendered frames to "1" via Nvidia Inspector.

EDIT: Forgot to add, run in fullscreen, not borderless. Borderless always runs in your native desktop refresh, meaning the 1/2 refresh option will have no effect.
 
I never understood the cloth physics deal. I saw one person say it was jarring. I am almost done with the game and I still can't figure out what is so off about it.

That said as much as I am enjoying the game I have noticed a few things that really piss me off.

Almost every kidnapping side quest seems bugged where you tackle the person and then they just stand there. You can't then take them away. Instead I am forced to just shoot them and pick up their dead body.

Not constantly but usually once a play session the game will completely lock up for about 10 seconds and then unfreeze.

The grappling hook or whatever is great and all and I really don't mind it but holy shit why can't it be smarter. After many hours of playing I still am unsure of just where i need to stand to get it to attach to a ledge going straight up. Not to mention the distance it can travel from rooftop to rooftop seems completely arbitrary.

The HUD is incredibly and intensely annoying, yes. I could have streamed to my TV via Steam Link but decided to go console native. After slogging through Knight on the PC, I just wasn't in the mood to screw with it on this game. Didn't think it would cause additional commentary. Had I known I never would have mentioned it. I wasn't trying to make any kind of statement.

The difference is noticeable if you compare footage of the PC version to that of the PS4/X1 version, but throughout all my 90-odd hours with the game, the only point at which it began to bother me is during the final assassination mission as Evie is in a large, ornate dress for a short while and it's exceedingly obvious that the lower portion isn't jumping about as it should.

Nope, while the framerate won't exceed 30 fps @30Hz, the frametime itself is still going to vary without the RTSS cap. Just like how the frametime still varies with 60 fps @60Hz, even with vsync applied.

That said, if you're going to use one or the other, exclusive fullscreen + 1/2 refresh is going to be less "stutter-y" than only capping to 30 via RTSS. However, both are still necessary for providing the most consistent framerate/frametime and input response, at least on a 60Hz display.

The animation is locked to 30FPS so at higher frame rates like 60FPS it's not fluid at all due to the discrepancy.
 
Ugh this is driving me crazy. The game runs fine but I am getting maaaaaajor screen tearing that will NOT go away. Tried Nvidia control panel, tried in game v-sync, tried combinations of both limited by RivaTuner. Nothing - it tears no matter WHAT.

Any ideas?

Edit: I just put it in borderless fullscreen. Lo and behold this game actually supports downsampling in borderless mode (auto-scales window) which is pretty fucking great. No more v-sync worries thank god.
 
That means you're nearing the boundary of the computer simulation. (the edge of the map).

Remember, in AC games you're looked up to a machine of some kind in the real world and you're playing a simulation of the memories of people who lived long ago.

It has nothing to do with how the game is running on your computer, it's an in-world message.
 
PS4 version rough compared to PC. Back to PC it is. Guess I'll just have to deal with the HUD and other petty annoyances.

Anyways, game itself is pretty great so far (about 10 hours in). Like what they've done with the map (it's not overwhelming like Unity was), mission structure is decent, I like the two protagonists' back and forth, city looks great (but not quite as good as Paris did). So far, a really solid Saturday morning mass market action game.

What's wrong with 3440x1440 resolution for this game? I've got it running by default - Game picked it up straight away and it runs fine. Doesn't look stretched or retarded to me..

I was getting fairly consistent 60FPS with my 970 and 2500k at console equivalent settings before I lowered the frame rate to 30 and enabled HBAO+Ultra (and it's not really pushing my card at 30) as the clothing bug ended up started to bother me after I said it wasn't. >_<

Granted my 970 and 2500k are overclocked but not enough that would basically double the frame rate.

So is he running everything on max? Sub 30fps with a 970 seems really terrible and not in line with what people are getting in this thread. I was hoping for 60fps rock solid when I finally get around to playing it (maybe by then it'll be patched).

yeah at all maxed 1080p it was 20 fps. 1080p at console settings he said 40 to 50 fps.

Hopefully they'll improve the performance then, I'm really looking for 60fps at console settings. It's a good thing I'm so busy with other games ATM as it gives them time.

If "max" settings include PCSS Ultra then yeah, it is quite hard to keep a steady 30FPS with a 970.

Turn that off though and 60FPS is pretty easy to hit and it's still way above console settings.

edit: God dammit leng lol.
 
I don't know why but letting this game just run at like ~45 FPS feels A LOT better than restricting it 30. Usually I opt for either matching the refresh rate or halving it - anything in between feels off. 30 FPS in this game, however, feels TERRIBLE and I can't manage 60 so I just let it do whatever and it's not so bad.

If you're on an HDD you might want to move the game to an SSD, I found that helped a lot with Unity's stuttering. I haven't played Syndicate yet though.
 
His side by side video comparison is very misleading. PS4 quality settings is no HBAO or PCSS, obviously, yet he has the game maxed out on PC in those videos. Put everything on High, like the PS4 equivalent, and it's easy to hit 60FPS and a 970 doesn't even break a sweat at 30FPS.

Pretty much. I would not say it is outrageous that a 970 can't max out Syndicate at 30fps.
"Max" settings are meant to be very expensive.

My verdict is that it's really stellar. Great performance, great visuals.

With your 970 the best settings would be assuming you are targetting 60fps at 1080p :
Env. : Very high or high.
Textures : high
Shadows : high
AO : HBAO+
AA : FXAA

The "ultra" options as well as MSAA/TXAA are not wise in your case, they're extremely expensive.
It's objectively a very significant jump over the console versions (sub 30fps in busy areas, sub 1080p).
