Witcher 3 Wins GOTY @ The Game Awards 2015!

Time to fire up this game again now that I upgraded from 980 to 980ti.

Thought Bloodborne would get it, now I gotta play Witcher 3 to see why it got it.

Dissapointing is the biggest thing I will say about hearing this, I have big issues with the developer that soured me on the Witcher 3 and they are being rewarded with game of the year.

I'd admit a bit of salt for Bloodborne not winning. But hey, it was a year heavy with open world games, and The Witcher III was probably the best of them. Seems a perfect representative for 2015 honestly.

:D plus I'm glad Fallout 4 lost out, hopefully this drives home to Bethesda that the days we put up with their crap for their games may be numbered.

What's wrong with CDProjekt Red?

Well deserved. Kind of surprised that Bethesdas' Fallout 4 didn't get it though.

Even technical shortcomings aside, Fallout 4's writing is mediocre. It has some great, fantastic even, type moments, but it's pretty bland as far as sidequests are concerned, and it's main quest is awful. It's fun to explore around and the art direction has moments of unique elements, but compared to Witcher 3, it's no contest. I've played WItcher 3 2.5 times(saving finishing my 3 playthrough for the next expansion) and have loved all of the 284 hours I played it. I've beaten FO4's main quest and am struggling to finish a second playthrough, the RPG elements of the game are the weakest yet of any BGS title. It's hard to roleplay the character I want to make with the design decisions Bethesda made. If you want to tell a tale, tell the tale, don't disguise it like "I"m the character I want to be" and then give me no choices in how that plays out. I don't hate FO4 at all, but it's not doing anything new. It's a prettier version of itself.

Witcher 3 is Geralt's story and makes no apologies for it and tells a great tale as a result. One of the best games ever made and CDPR continues to improve and grow with each game released. Witcher 1 was a great RPG and a great story. Witcher 2 grew on that in a lot of ways while making a beautiful game, and Witcher 3 took everything Witcher 2 did and amplified it by a huge margin. It's masterfully crafted, from art design to it's fantastic soundtrack and amazing side quests to it's much improved combat(compared to Witcher 2) and fantastic graphics(it's jaw dropping at 1440p/60fps).

I'm 29 and have roughly been playing games since I was 4 or 5 and it's easily on my favorite games of all time EVER list.

Personally I would have said Bloodborne.
The mediocre / poor combat keeps it from achieving GOTY imo. Everything else is pretty too notch though.

What's wrong with CDProjekt Red?

What did they do?
Where they called out a greenmangaming than when greenmangaming replied back nothing from CDPR and never heard a thing since. I refused to buy the witcher 3 because of it until it's cheap. It's soured me on CDPR.

Every time he is in one of these threads, he says the same thing. Never says what the problem is.
You really have no clue what your talking about, I've responded everytime I am asked.

Reeeeeeally? I have zero interest in The Witcher franchise but I can't deny that CD Projekt are very talented devs and I'm a big fan of the cyberpunk style so this interests me greatly. What have they said about it?

Just this.

Also it's based on the pen and paper RPG of the same name. The creator of the PnP game is helping with the game's mechanics and such.

I wish I could've enjoyed Witcher more but I couldn't get into it and barely put 3-4 hours in. Bloodborne on the other hand really resonated with me in a way I haven't felt since maybe metroid prime or bioshock (I missed dark souls on release).

What did they do?

They had the gall to release 200 hour long game filled with unique content DRM-free on day one without any preorder incentives while giving discounts to owners of previous games. Plus the bastards dared to release free DLCs for everyone on every platform as well as 20 hour expansion that cost 10 dollars. And let's not forget their terrible support of their previous games with the free Enhanced Editions, that added only hours of new content. They also operate a DRM-free game store, bringing back classic games. Why wouldn't you hate them ?

You'll be pleased to know they won developer of the year as well! =D

Dude. Just stop. You're making me so angry at them...

Personally I was rooting for mgs v and have never played a game by cdprojekt ever before.

I ordered Witcher 3 on bf, I can't play for a while but I opened the copy anyway. All you have to do to realize that they are genuinely awesome developers is to open the game case. In this age when publishers bitch about a 2 page guide, the packed a whole bunch of goodies and even a full ost disk, plus the free dlc content.

I know this seems like a weird point i am making but I was very surprised.

Very well deserved to CDPR. Fantastic game and probably one of the most satisfying RPGs I've played since Baldur's Gate 2. The accolades are completely deserved.

And they're still working on a whole other expansion!

filthy fucking bastards nuke-em from orbit. Gamers simply will not stand for this bullshit, especially GHAF gamers, they know better.

I really like GMG too but this is crazy talk. CDPR has added so much to the PC platform with their games and GOG as a service.

Tons of old games would not be playable at all today if it wasn't for them and they've stuck their DRM free guns the entire time.

Something changed at GMG in 2015 and this was just the start of it.

They called out GMG because GMG was not being honest with their audience. They promise right on their website that what seperates them from other small sites is that tthey "only deal directly with publishers", in this case that was not true. Its fine if GMG wants to change that policy, but not being upfront about it is shady and CDPR was not wrong to blow the whistle on it.

Don't worry. We all love this. Just look at this REGULAR edition of Witcher 3. It's just packed with goodies.

It's one of the three games I actually own physically and it's a collector's edition. Hell, the box for the collector's edition had the signatures of everyone on the dev team. Plus the steel books look incredible.

Seriously though, what ? GMG sold keys that were not authorized. They became unauthorized reseller, CDP called them out on it. Then they made peace since then afaik.

Deserved.

MGS got super repetitive and boring.
Fallout 4 had so much bugs and terrible story choices.
Don't even know why Mario Maker is there.

Bloodborne is great, but it wasn't super ambitious like Witcher 3.

The only game where I've purchased the Collector's Edition after playing the game.

The title was too good to not own the best edition.

It was TW3 or Bloodborne.

Both teams are so humble and work hard that they deserve it...

But FROM SOFTWARE is the DeCaprio of Game Awards.

This seems like a pretty petty reason to miss out on a game, to be honest.

Super Mario Maker is there because it's fantastic.

Bloodborne may not be as ambitious as The Witcher 3 but ambition doesn't automatically make a better game.

Fortunately, The Witcher 3 actually is a great game.

Well deserved. Definitely my favorite game of the year. Sure I had a few problems with it like the main story, but then I look at Fallout 4 and then I look at what TW3 has accomplished not only for its budget but even compared to games like Inquisition, and I realize that no game has had as much ambition, size and effort put into it as The Witcher 3. My second choice would have been Bloodborne, but I am glad my first choice actually won.

Aha. Gotcha. Sorry about that, I do recall this now, but I thought there were more serious issues.

I think your reason is a bit petty, especially in light of what they were doing.

CDPR was in the wrong about it and they never released proof about it before or after.

GOG is the best thing about CDPR and honestly the only thing that I still support because it's an admirable site and deserves support.

Meh I don't feel it is but It caused me to lose any respect that I had for them and I feel the best thing I can do is boycott the game even if some people say it's good.

If you followed the thread you'd see his opinion changed. The reason for this change? NOVIGRAD! Or Gwent. I say gwent. CDProjekt made not only one of the best RPG's of this year but also one of the best card games!

I would disagree with the assertion that Bloodborne isn't as "ambitious" as The Witcher 3. The subject matter alone is daring and relatively alien (no pun intended) to video games, not to mention the gamble with making a souls like games without "Souls" in the title and changing up the gameplay drastically with the guns and emphasis on speed.

Didn't see that actually. Gwent is fucking awesome though.

bruh...everything else in Bloodbourne just aint good enough for me.

Luckily it isn't the only aspect of the game. The story, dialogue, quest design, all makes up for it. I like the combat though.

Good thing it has a lot more than just that.

Eh, it may just be me. I'm just tired of the "open world RPG" genre in general, so questing and stuff like that, talking to people is just a chore. Witcher 3 doesn't do anything new for me that makes it something i can look at with fresh eyes in the genre which in inhabits.

I've played through a ton of Witcher 3 at a friend's house recently, and i just cannot divorce myself from the fact that i'm playing a more refined version of several other games.

If it doesn't have mechanics i can find fun, i can't really commit my entire enthusiasm to it. Bloodborne is basically the other Souls games, but atleast i can throw myself into the second to second gameplay and keep myself preoccupied.

I'm not telling you it has to be your game of the year, i just thought BB was more deserved.

How were they in the wrong? And why is it a big deal to you?

edit:
and they way you quote things messes up how people quote you.

Fair enough. I can understand the fatigue. Bloodborne was fun, combat was great, art direction was cool. But it wasn't more than Dark Souls: Gothic edition for me.
