Shadow Complex available for free on PC, right now. [Up: For real this time]

Thanks for the heads up! Will have to download this. Only played through and beat it once back on 360. Remember it being a great time.

What's with epicgames and this .msi launcher they have?

Only thing I can never load on my computer and I have no idea what's blocking it.

EDIT: Apparently it was "blocked" cause it came from another computer. Never seen that before.. weird.

This does not play well with Big Picture Mode. I really hope the Steam version doesn't have to deal with this launcher. I hope there is a Steam version.

Not quite as surprising when you know that Microsoft didn't own Gears of War until last year when Epic decided to wash their hands of it.

I did know that though because it was big news when MS bought it.

Anyway, I've heard a lot of good things about Shadow Complex. Looking forward to trying it.

Do you have admin privileges on your computer? MSI (Microsoft Installers) are locked on an OS-level in Windows to only allow Admin accounts to run them.

If you aren't on Windows, there's supposed to be a Mac version of Epic Launcher, but the option for it doesn't seem to always pop up (Probably because the servers are getting pounded), and I don't know if SC Remastered is available on Mac anyway.

Anyway, out of curiosity... Is this a straight port of Shadow Complex, or is it upgraded to Unreal 4?

epic hasn't been paying attention to pc for 10-12 years, it will take them a while to figure out that you can hook a pc up to a tv now

So, you want to pay $10-$15 for the game next year instead of simply downloading thirty megs and supplying a name and email to sign up to play the game now for free and very likely running better than any console can? Okay.
I have a job and disposable income. $10-15 is not a lot of money to spend.

According to the launcher, my PC doesn't meet the prerequisites. I have no idea what that even means, or why it takes so long to determine this.

Anyone tried this on a laptop with integrated graphics? I'd kind of like to play it again, but not sure how it will run on my Intel HD 4000. I'll get it on PS4 anyway, but not sure it's worth the download.

Yeah, they just had exclusive publishing rights for both these series. They reupped on Gears, but I reckon the most likely explanation for Shadow Complex is that they only had the rights to it for 5 years, which has since expired.

Oh wait, it said that the prerequisites failed to install, not that my computer doesn't meet some requirements. Is this just a problem with their servers?

Shadow Complex 'Remastered' seems a bit of a lofty title. I feel like they might have done some work on the characters' faces, but apart from that it looks pretty much like a 2009 Xbox 360 game rendered at a higher resolution.

Can't complain for the price, though. Runs excellently, too, and it's still the same great game I remembered. I thought I was just going to load it up quickly and ended up playing about 90 minutes :P

Finally got the launcher to show it but not sure if I wanna play it using this launcher now lol

Was there a date for a steam release?

I finally got this installed and just started playing. I'm very happy to finally be able t9 play this game after years of hearing xbots raving about it. Wasn't expecting to ever get it free or ever be able to play it. I'm a huge Super Metroid fan so i should like this. The character animations look super dated but once i started playing and remembered its a side scroller none of that really matters and the fun begins.

Well, I got the Shadow Complex tab to show up, but nothing happens when I click it.

Progress?

So I haven't played much of the original, but this game looks like a UE3 engine title from after the big lightmass update back around 2009. Given Shadow Complex's original release date, it was probably a very different-looking game.

uh, yeah y'all, look at this 360 shot:

Compare to the shot of the newer version earlier in this thread:

This is a product of effort and a pretty big improvement.

I got it running, but the AA seems a bit crap. I have it on the highest settings and I know my GPU should take care of it. Is there anyway to force a type of AA outside of the game with an Nvidia card?

yoo, this is like an early christmas present. Running this at 4k and 60fps is sublime. I'm so happy about this. I was always salty that I lost access to my first Xbox Live account solely because I owned this game (and didn't really feel like purchasing it again lol).

Is there a way to launch the game without opening the launcher? Where is the exe located?

Unfortunately the game is tied to the launcher. Opening the game exe just opens the launcher, which is a shame, since that also means the "editor" argument to a shortcut doesn't work even if the editor is included.

I have a job and disposable income. $10-15 is not a lot of money to spend.

It's not the price so much as it is the stated intent to pass up a limited opportunity to own a superior version on a system you already own for free just down to the requirement of downloading a small launcher app. I mean, even if I were filthy rich, I'd still jump on having the better version for nothing. Just strikes me as an odd post.

I got it installed and just finished playing through it.

I was a little disappointed that the only weapons were the pistol and grenades, but it was still pretty fun for a tech demo. I loved the ending, genuinely laughed out loud.

8/10

I'm not an idiot. As I said this was the only thing I could never get to load.

Apparently it was blocked cause it came from another computer, which I've never had happen before. Didn't even know it was possible.
