Looks like a good game, but also looks like a very safe and typical choice.
Yeah, third game from a polish developer is very safe choice compared to Bethesda game or Konami game or From game or Nintendo game, such niche, brave choices.

Bloodborne is a good, even great game but I mean, even in the Souls series it's third best at most.
Hard to get too excited for it when it's the 4th game in the series and not even the best one. Witcher 3 feels extremely fresh in comparison, I think it's easy to understand how it leaves a stronger impression.

I really need to get my hands on Bloodborne 1-3. Could you point me towards to where I could get them?
Safe? FO4 or MGSV now those would be safe. TW3 however not really that 'safe'.

It's sad to see people overlook niche masterpieces like Bloodborne, Metal Gear Solid, and Fallout 4, and give this award to a soulless mass market product. The Witcher 3 is vastly overrated on this forum by people who are blinded by pretty graphics and an average story. It has literally the worst combat ever made, and the game is basically a reskinned version of Assassin's Creed. Not to mention how CDPR lied about offering free DLC, and then proceeded to announce a $25 season pass. Added to that, the game runs at 20 seconds per frame on consoles. The developer comes off as slimy, so I don't even know how they won the developer of the year award.
I'm absolutely disgusted and you should be too. Go Bloodborne!
Really? They could have named it Dark Souls: Yharnam or Demons Souls: Bloodlust if they wanted.
I find Bloodborne to be vastly different from Souls aside from very core mechanics. Saying Bloodborne is in the same series as Dark Souls is the same as saying Last of Us is fourth Uncharted game.

Aside from the core mechanics that make Dark Souls and Bloodborne unique from pretty much every action game they are different games? They really could have called it DS:Bloodborne and people wouldn't have batted an eye. It's not dismissive of Bloodborne, there is a reason people hold the combat of DS and BB in such high regard.

Not only GOTY but the cinematic trailer for it is one of the best I've ever seen too:
"A Night to Remember"
I was completely in the dark about this game, waiting to jump in once the game was patched and the price is right. That PSN sale last week was the right time and price and its been gravy ever since.
Are we really pretending that Bloodborne isn't within the same series as Dark Souls?
I guess Demon's Souls is a totally separate thing too?

TLOU example doesn't really work as there is more importance placed on stealth and survival as opposed to the action and shooting/set pieces of UC.
No, it's much closer, but we've had this discussion about a hundred times before, so probably shouldn't bother again.

Last year Inquisition, now Witcher 3. This people must love quest markers..
I play it with the HUD disabled save for the health bar area, and would have it no other way.Last year Inquisition, now Witcher 3. This people must love quest markers..
Opinions and all that, and the combat was the one thing I was worried about most, but its great. It just requires you to take meaningful actions - to mean what you're doing, and to position yourself so that you don't get surrounded. I actually love it, which is the last thing I expected after reading so many complaints about it. Maybe it goes to shit at some point, but I've enjoyed how purposeful it is, and how much the combat rewards preparation and positioning.Disappointing that a game with shit tier combat like Witcher 3 can win an award like this.
Kinda weird to me that so many people acting like Bloodborne is some niche product that's somehow gone overlooked, or is so complicated that only a small segment of the population will be able to play and fully enjoy its majesty. They seem like fairly popular, mainstream games at this point.
Bad form, Monocle. Your role is to reply to shitty posts like this, not make them.Looks like a good game, but also looks like a very safe and typical choice.

Gameplay and controls fo matter, and Bloodborne, Fsllout 4 and MGSV are all far better than Witcher 3 in those areas.
So I asked this in the show tread but why is an award from TGA already considered prestigious and gets such a strong reaction? It's been going for like three years...
Have you played Demon Souls or Bloodborne?
BB combat plays nothing like Dark Souls , Demon souls on the other hand is very similar and even shares the same Souls name.
Also a game doesnt have to be 100% different to be considered a new IP. Many games are just spiritual successors but still get counted as new IPs. Its such a dumb argument that I cant believe people are actual trying to downplay BB with it. Sharing some level design and progression mechanics doesnt mean its immediately " Yea its just dark souls in victorian era skin". Many games share aspects with other games.
A mod seems to have accidentally locked my thread, but until it's unlocked, was anyone else surprised that SOMA wasn't nominated for best narrative? It's probably the best story I've experienced in a game this year.

I've played every Souls game and since Demon's Souls I've gotten them day one without question and they're certainly some of my favourite games. I'm not arguing that it's not a different IP, it is, but that's really just semantics. It's a spritiual successor to the Souls games, just like Dark was to Demons. They play extremely similarly and you're totally downplaying it, I'd more question whether you've played the games if you honestly can't see just how similar they are.
It's an experimental successor and it shares a ton with the Souls series, right down to the renaming of different aspects and the same inherent structure as that series. To say it plays "nothing" like Souls is insane. It is definitely one of those games, although it is tweaked to play towards a more aggressive style and has less RPG elements.
Bloodborne is a damn awesome game but people who are using the "new IP" card to try and treat it like this brand new thing are fooling themselves. It is definitely within the same vein as a Souls game. Different sure, but it doesn't differentiate itself from Souls all THAT much.
