Witcher 3 Wins GOTY @ The Game Awards 2015!

Personally, I blame all the mainstream losers who can only tolerate spoon-fed, hand-holding, easy-mode games for failing to recognize the transcendent majesty of Bloodborne, a game that can only be surpassed by Souls 3.
It's downright puzzling to me that some people are actually serious when they say such nonsense.

Wrong...Bloodborne is the real GOTY.

People are so ignorant in gaming, most people still haven't discovered Demons Souls yet.

Even MGSV is better than W3 by a country mile.

Nope, from the nature of a circle, it is perpetual and has no beginning or end. Personally, I blame all the mainstream losers who can only tolerate spoon-fed, hand-holding, easy-mode games for failing to recognize the transcendent majesty of Bloodborne, a game that can only be surpassed by Souls 3.
Your being picked on becuase your being a sore loser. Take it in a dignified way, tip.your hat and continue on your way.

A page ago I said that there wasn't as much salt over Bloodborne as people made it out to be.

I'm sorry. I was wrong.

They are not distinct enough to not count under 'western rpg' Surely Fallout and Witcher are more similar than not?

Dunno.

How Bloodborne is distinct enough of any third person action game done in the last 15 years with swords and monsters where you attack, parry and roll in the ground?

Reading it again, I would be with you if he really only said crunch time is "killing" the team. But thats becuase I know, having worked on games, how beast can be the last months of crunch time. Nearly every game passes this dreaded phase.
The thing is, he literally says, they been treating the team badly since day 1, and PR (what PR? CDPR always uses the game devs to communicate, so this is batalantly false), has been lying from the start about trying to accomplish a game that didn't exist.

Then the game released and everything that they promised was in the game, and then some.
So he basically was telling a story from his ass.

I couldn't care less if they were all treated like Foxconn workers, the end product turned out pretty damned good regardless of crunch time pressures.

My choice would have been Arkham Knight by a clear distance, but The Witcher is more than deserving. Didn't think I'd be up for another sprawling fantasy WRPG so soon after DA:I, but that world was just so absorbing. I spent 90 hours with the game and it just flew by, Kotor was the last game to timewarp me like that. The Skellige Isles must be one of the most beautifully designed areas in any game ever, every place I looked there was something amazing on the horizon begging to be explored.

I would also like to join the rest of you in laughing at that salty gobshite on the last page (If he was serious ofc).

Grats to Witcher 3. I'm going through it now and having a great time. Splatoon is still my GOTY so far but W3 is pretty awesome itself.

It's downright puzzling to me that some people are actually serious when they say such nonsense.

There's an almost endless series of them. It's mind-blowing.

From http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1150848

It is unfortunate but the Western journalists obsession with giving western games awards continues. They need their quests , waypoints, mini maps, visuals and story telling to be considered for a GOTY award.

Literally saying, people are too dumb to appreciate Bloodborne because it doesn't have waypoints to prevent them from getting lost. Sure, seems reasonable.

I've played them all as well and completely agree. By the time Bloodborne came out the formula was starting to wear thin. I have zero excitement for Dark Souls III next year.

If this were a few years ago and we were talking about Dark Souls vs. the Witcher 2, I would be singing a different tune.

Come on, that's not really fair. I'm not debating which game should have won GOTY because everyone has their favorites and there were some good contenders this year but how can you say that the soulsborne formula is stale but laud W3. There have only been 4 for these games since 2009 and 3 Witcher games in about the same amount of time.
There is also the fact that W3 follows an open world rpg, questathon while explore a ton of key points on the minimap template that has been done to death. W3 isn't even that far removed from last year's goty winner DA:I. Not saying DA is better but it is pretty similar in a lot of core aspects.

I also can't believe BB didn't get Art Direction and MGSV won soundtrack. There are some puzzling winners and I agree that thwy could do with some more categories. BB shouldn't have been in thw straight RPG category.

Well I for one greatly enjoyed the Witcher 3 and I am glad it won so many accolades this year.

To see CDPR grow from a small Polish development company nobody knew into a AAA developer is truly inspiring.

Hard work really does pay off.

Great game, the only thing I really disliked about this was the ridiculous names in it, other than that its simply awesome

Of all the games that deserved to win, this certainly shouldn't have been the one to win it. It is honestly surprising that this game is in the running for game of the year. The only good thing in this game is the narrative. The combat is poor, the graphics are average, the frame rate is poor on consoles, the animations are poor, the controller response is poor. I'm not sure how goty can be awarded to a game with poor gameplay.

Sure it is.

Congrats CDPR. Personally I think Bloodborne is a better game simply because of combat.

But I can understand Witcher 3 being the better package with excellent story, voice acting, visuals and their continuous support with free dlc.

Great!

One of my favourite series getting what it deserves. Congrats CDPR. You guys made me buy all the books, play all the games. I just need a good PC to play this one.

It's true that there has only been one game more in the souls series, but the trajectory of the souls series is much more flat. Bloodborne isn't all that disimilar from Demon's Souls, whereas The Witcher has changed quite a bit between the first and third games.

Calling the W3 an open world questathon is disingenuous at best, as even the side quests in W3 are better than the main story beats in other open world RPGs.

They're both great games. Just tired of hearing about how the souls series is GOAT in all regards and makes all other games seem like shit in comparison. The hyperbole surrounding the series on this board is just ridiculous at this point. Not all souls series fans are like that, so it's fine, but every thread is gonna have at least the one guy (like the first one I quoted in this thread). Every time.

I can see why the Witcher 3 won. I disagree with it, because Bloodborne had much better gameplay, but the Witcher has a lot going for it. Plus CDPR has made the series one of the premier RPG series in gaming, maybe THE premier RPG series. It's a Cinderella story. Who doesn't love a good Cinderella story?

Congrats CD Projekt Red!

I can only imagine the amount of salt if something besides Bloodborne wins the NeoGAF GOTY poll.

Already a 5 page thread of incredulous Souls fans griping about mainstream gaming. Doctors would recommend most people keep their sodium intake below what is sure to occur if Bloodborne doesn't win Gaf GOTY.

even though i would have loved it if bloodborne won, congrats to CDPR.
Can't understand the people who are upset about the decision. Bloodborne is still my favorite game of the year and a masterpiece in my eyes, winning game of the year or any other award doesn't change my opinion on the game.

I agree, I actually liked the sidequests inW3 better than the main story beats in similar games and even in the W3 itself. The quests weren't what stopped my from putting more than 6 hours into the Witcher (already discussed that). I think W3 does many things right and better than its contemporaries but I was simply pointing out it still follows the same minimap, quest driven formula that a lot of us are getting tired of. W3 was definitely more of an improvent over previous entries than BB was but I didn't feel as if the gameplay cycle in W3 was much different than last year's Dragon Age.

For me, everything "clicked" in BB while only some aspects of W3 did. Pehaps it was open world fatigue or maybe I really was spoiled by BB's combat. I don't know... just rambling now. LoL

I'm just happy that it wasn't Fallout 4. The Witcher 3 is one of the best games I ever played and joins Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, Mario Galaxy 1/2, Last of Us, Resident Evil 4 and Knack(on hard mode!) as one of the best in gaming history.

I can't wait for Cyberpunk 2077!

If only Bloodborne had won ;___;
Congratulations to CD, unfortunately I just can't get past the mediocre at best combat in Witcher, which is a shame as it seems the graphics, story and characters are all top notch. I hope they make significant improvements with Cyberpunk as I love that genre.

Feel the same way. Despite my issues with W3, I am looking forward to Cyperpunk... a lot.

I've yet to finish it. I gave up on it a good bit into it.
Same with Bloodborne though. But from what I've played of both games, I think Witcher 3 is a better game. The ambitiousness of its scale, world, story, dialogue and characters stands out.

BloodBorne fans need to watch their sodium intake. Could cause heart disease or advance your aging process very quickly
See Xfiles episode season 2 episode 19 for more details

Really though its nice seeing a small polish developer become so highly recognized.
