Fan Favorite PS2 Games Launching on PS4 Tomorrow

I'm in for Rogue Galaxy. I have a demo disc laying around here somewhere, but never got the full game. And I think the list confirms that FFXII will get a proper remaster. Sucks that there's not at least an upgrade path, but I'm not going to waste any energy complaining about it. I'm sure internally that Sony knew they were going to get backlash for that. There messaging has to be good. It's pretty clear why there isn't PS3 backward compatibility. Help us understand why PS2 can't work that way.

This isn't going to end well. The narrative is already solidifying and Sony is going to get a lot of bad press/reactions for it. Can't say I feel bad for them.

That being said, $15 is a good price for Rogue Galaxy.

GAF/internet is not a good representation of public opinion. If that was the case every AAA game from ea/ubi/activision would bomb considering how much "bad press" and negative reactions are heaped upon those games from the moment they are announced around here. If these games are overpriced, your average consumer will just not buy them, not start a petition about it.

I don't think the prices are good but I do think they're kind of inline with other similar releases. Like Grandia 2 offers a comparable upgrade on Steam and its $20.

I still think $10 should have been the standard though. You just know Square is going to reach to $20 for their titles they bring.

Hyperbole.

Just don't buy them. The rest of us will enjoy games we don't have anymore. I sold off most of my PS2 catalogue years ago so most of the stuff I want are like the PS1 classics I already own.

And much like the PS1 classics, I sold them and ended up getting them on PSN.

I see the value in it myself, though I would have liked a separate solution for emulation even if it meant no trophies, share play, etc.

I think it's reasonable for people who own PS2 Classics to be upset about not being able to transfer those purchases over.

It's totally possible, but a narrative can easily be established if the gaming press makes a big stink about it and the sentiment becomes common amongst gamers. Time will tell, I suppose.

This is hyperbole. people act like this will end Sony and the PS4 as we know it. I don't see this helping or hurting them in any way really. It's just something they offer. Sure you'll have some people upset about it for maybe a day?

After tomorrow and whatever they announce people won't give a fuck. It'll be forums like this that'll keep being upset about it. Eventually you just deal with it.

The pricing isn't bad imo. I just think it's a shame there is no upgrade program.

Possibly, but I think owners of PS2 Classics have legitimate grievances. It doesn't exactly inspire confidence when you're unsure if they'll transfer over to Sony's future console(s).

I heard Rogue Galaxy is like a spiritual successor to Dark Cloud 2. Is this true? How's the game?
I loved it. The combat is what it takes from the Dark Cloud games. It has a crafting system like DC2 as well but not quite as deep. There are actually lots of side things to do for fun. More story, characters and environments to fight in.

I know lots of people that prefer Rogue Galaxy but it's more about if you want more of less of the dungeon crawl that was Dark Cloud.

Are they saving anything to announce tomorrow?

Dark Cloud and Rouge Galaxy with trophies are mighty tempting... but those prices are pretty steep, considering I already own them

Is there cross buy for these? I already own GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas for PS3. I'm assuming not, which is a deal-breaker as I have no interest in buying these games a third time!

I get that 15$ is a lot but I take it people haven't seen how pricing was working for other games...

on PS3 SE is selling most of their PS1 games for 10$ as it is, 5$ more doesn't seem to unfair. Then you look at the PC port of FF7 were likely getting tomorrow and wasn't that confirmed to be 15-20$ by itself and thats a PS1 game.

There certainly be some overlap discount if you already own a version on PS3 but I am greatly interested in replaying some of these old PS2 games with 1080p support and trophies and some games like Rogue Galaxy are certainly worth that 15$ asking price.

So I'm curious what prices were people expecting I was honestly expecting 15-20$ not 10-15 and I think that for some games that is resonable. Not touching Dark Cloud at 15$ though.

I'd rather just hook my actual PS2 up when I get the urge to play a PS2 game than pay $15 per game for digital versions. I understand Sony needs to make a profit, so I can't begrudge them their pricing choice, but the value just isn't there in my eyes.

What a way to announce PS2 games finally coming to PS4, though. Kinda surprised Sony dropped the ball on this.

pricing seems fair.
it's nice to see sony remember they own some ips like dark cloud.
it's gonna be stupid if I have to pay to play twisted metal black again since I have it digitally on my ps3 though. it's not like the ps2 library on the ps3 is huge, there needs to be some sort of discount for owning the ps3 games as this just feels so backwards to all of their other crossplay stuff.

Not too bad price wise I guess. I'll wait and see how they look/run and maybe get rogue galaxy since I loved that game back in the day.

I'd gladly buy CVS2 for $15 without the PS3 lag if they bring it over to the PS4. I'm keeping an eye on how KOF 2000 turns out.

$15 I think is fair for the work going into bringing these games over, but as a consumer I want the best deal for me. I'll wait for sales on most of this stuff and will probably dip in on the GTA games.

I'm interested in seeing where this goes and whether they bring PS1 games over also.

Love how "trophy support" is a justification for such price hikes. Do people really care that much about them?
