Fan Favorite PS2 Games Launching on PS4 Tomorrow

So what the he'll is the difference between upressed and uprendered? I'm assuming uprendered doesn't just stretch the image but actually increases the size of everything that is rendered?

Increasing the game's internal resolution(or uprezzing) is making the game natively run at a resolution it was never meant to. This usually means increasing the IQ far beyond what was originally possible.

Upscaling is a term that simply means you are taking a base image with the original resolution, and stretching it to fit something, in this case a TV.

Starting with Xbox 360, all consoles upscale every game to 1080p to fit the TV screen even if the game itself renders at a lower resolution.

PS3 games ran PS2 and PS1 games at their original res and upscaled them to 720p, which did not look so good on TV's.

PS4 is actually increasing the internal res of the game, which increases the quality of the in game visuals.

I'll buy Twisted Metal Black in a heartbeat to give the entire idea a shot.

If it's half as good as I imagine I'll likely jump on a few more of these.

It's fucking sad that we used to get this service for free and now it's apparently nothing but a pipedream. I mean aren't MS doing the same thing alreadt for 360 games but it's free if you have the disc?

Yup. Microsoft isn't charging for backwards compatibility at all if you have the game already.

I told you.

Would hit 15 dollars and limited selection.

Fits right in line with other price hikes.

Don't buy it people.

I'm done buyung ps2 games Sony. I was really looking forward to playing the games I own plus a few others. Now,I just saved money

Disc and digital are both supported. If you own the game digitally it just automatically shows up in your library when it becomes compatible. The difference in implementation is staggering. It makes me a lot more confident that my XB1 library will be supported on future platforms, whereas I now have zero confidence in Sony ever supporting BC again. They are far more interested in charging us again and again.

No chance that Twisted Metal will have online connectivity I assume?

The original didn't, just an online-only disc that came with the online adapter if I remember correctly.

Get this though: just share play the game and boom, online cooperative play. Only one person needs to own the game, too.

For people complaining about the price, I just looked up Dark Cloud 2 on amazon.

I wish they were all ten dollars, but 15 isn't terrible.

I haven't played any of those games. What are the must plays? (I had a ps2 and dark cloud would have been right up my alley, not sure what happened)

I'm loving all those SOCOM 2 comments in there. lol.

The thirst is real.

Shu finally responded to SOCOM questions on Twitter for the first time in years today and said there is nothing planned for the franchise. Sony buried SOCOM in a shallow grave and do their best to forget about it.

There are probably games I wouldn't feel bad for spending $15 on, but none of these are those games.

Twisted Metal Black for $10 is tempting though. I've never played it and I hear good things.

I definitely want to get one of these. Rogue Galaxy or Dark Cloud? Never played either of them and both have similar metacraitic scores.

Price is fine Imo, trophy support and the emulator required time and money to make and when you bought ps2 classics or discs there was no reason to think theyd work on ps4. $15 is alot cheaper than the disc version in most cases anyway so most people are gonna be happy.

Gimme dragon quest 8, final fantasy 12, champions of Norrath and persona 3 at 1080p with trophies Sony.

I asked a few gaffer about both games, Rouge Galaxy seems better choice. Dark Cloud has generated dungeons which I don't like.

Essentially, the games are getting the remaster treatment?

I've got dark cloud 2 , no way I'll play it on my ps2, now that we're getting an improved version. :)

Edit, so not getting DC2 yet. :(

The local cooperative play is the real pull for me on that one. If you have a buddy to play locally or via share play with then go for it.

Get Rogue Galaxy. Skip Dark Cloud 1 and wait for Dark Cloud 2 to be announced.

Is my recommendation...DC2 is better than the other two for miles.

Super disappointing, but I know I'll probably bite on something in later releases, like Sky Odyssey or Ridge Racer V.

Xbox One backwards compatibility covers sixth-gen games?

No, not yet...and now that Sony has chosen to officially shy away from any type of real BC, even disregarding digital purchases of PS2 (and possibly PS1) classics from PS3, I really hope MS sees OG Xbox BC as an easy opportunity more than ever.

It's not like the price is gonna stay at 15$ forever.
Most PS2 classics started at 10 and got cheaper later on or due sales.
The selection is indeed quite small.

Hope we get some regular updates :/ and an update what happens with PSX classics.

I would jump on the price if it was one of the best games from the PS2 or the Shin Megami Tensei games. I remain optimistic regardless since its quite interesting that they are selling Dark Cloud (guessing 2 is in the works). Rogue Galaxy is also cool considering that game is mighty pretty. I still have a sealed unopened copy I think.

King of Fighters 2000 being upcoming game is pretty promising. I would love to buy XI again to use with a stick.

Rogue Galaxy is a more traditional RPG compared to Dark Cloud. Both are different kinds of games though.

I'd say buy RG, then buy DC2 if you really want the best experience.

I really hope we get DQ8 and FF12 at some point!

The biggest issue with my with playing PS2/PS1 games on the PS3 is the input lag.

If these games are exactly the same as if it was on the PS2 but in 1080P, better framerate and with trophies. For me, it's definitely worth it for the few worthwhile games.

Essentially, the games are getting the remaster treatment?

Technically. There have been lazy remasters that have had nothing but internal res upgrades.

But for PS2 games which are almost always below 480i, this IS a remastering treatement, boosting them far above 720p. Your getting a base IQ upgrade of more than 4x the pixel density.

Higher than the jump from 1080p to 4k.

DO I have to play Dark Cloud 1 to understand 2?

No, completely different story. Infact, Dark Cloud 2 isn't even Dark Cloud. In Japan and EU its Dark Chronicle, a spiritual successor of Dark Cloud. Like Demon's Souls to Dark Souls.

The US only changed Dark Chronicle to Dark Cloud 2 to give the IP more recognition.

So, I don't own any classics. Are any of these games on the classics list that people might already own for PS3?

Just curious if its possible at all that when a game on the classic list is set to launch that it might be free for those who own it.

The average ebay sale price for Dark Cloud (confirmed release) is under ten dollars.

I apologize, read somewhere someone mistaking you say dark cloud 2 and just ran with that. On amazon you can get it used for like 5 bucks Still, the new prices of both are super high.
