PlayStation 2 comes to PS4 official trailer

Re buying them for a small fee is fine but $15 is way too much for a 15 year old port. Most of the recent games released digitally are even cheaper.

this is what im talking about... if the service isnt for people who already own the game... how would they lose money by making disc based BC available?

You answered your own question. Why would they bother setting up disc based BC for those people who aren't going to pay into their ecosystem?

That's their mindset.

Its the same mindset of a company who took out hardware BC from models of a console that previously had it via disc based BC and then set up PS Classics system to get people to buy many of the same games they already had on a disc.

That company was Sony...there is a precedent for this, and people can't say they weren't aware of the possibility.

I'm honestly not surprised by what they did. But i would like a digital loyalty program initiative. Even nintendo could do that.

As excited as I am for Rogue Legacy, I think it's a pretty crummy move to not allow PS2 discs to run on the hardware natively. Ultimately, I hope the press and the community make some noise and force Sony to make a move.

Same, I think it's arrogant as hell to create an announcement trailer that basically rubs salt in the wound of veteran PS gamers who own at least some of these games but are expected to shell out $10-$15 more just to play them on newer hardware instead of just popping in your own copy and playing it.

Having said that, I don't expect them to do anything. They knew what people wanted and they ignored it, even as their closest competitor created BC for select newer gen games and offered it free for people who owned the games.

Like an idiot, I got rid of all my PS2 games, so I'm OK with rebuying them. It's actually cheaper than buying a used PS2 copy.

Now please bring the Harry Potter games and Star Wars: Battlefront II. I need a nostalgia overload.

Will buy Mark of Kri and Dark cloud. Both were fantastic games well worth the 15 bucks. Although Dark Cloud feels a little "unfinished" next to Dark Cloud 2

1080p with no AA is some bullshit. Supersampling or bust. I mean seriously this stuff is two gens old. And the pricing... lol.

In effect, we're looking at around 4x the pixel count - possibly higher, depending on the title. Texture filtering also looks improved, but on close inspection we think that the increased quality is probably down to the extra resolution alone.

Overall impressions are positive - there's little that can be done to improve the quality of 2D assets, but the improvements to the 3D side of things are welcome. It looks like some kind of post-process effect is in place mimicking anti-aliasing - edges are surprisingly smooth, and there's little in the way of shimmer.

Probably because it will take extra development time. This is probably pretty easy to do on their end.

They probably don't have to work on the emulator in the future to add extra games, and hear people complain about why a certain game isn't on there.

Here they can hear what people want, and then put it up.

They should probably offer a discount program or a cross buy, I agree... but disc based emulation is totally lame. People seem to think it's great but if you're honest about it.... how often would you go out and buy a PS2 disc or use an old PS2 disc to play a game? I know I would probably use it like twice.

Yeah true. development and trophies being added do take extra work.

As far as disc based though... i would use it... all the time. i have a HUGE collection of PS2 games, a lot of which i never got around to finishing... lots and LOTS of RPGs/JRPGs

I used my PS3's backwards compatibility all the time... and bought tons of PS2 discs over the life of the PS3 (only stopping when my MGS4 PS3 got nuked and ended my backwards compatible ps3) so now im sitting on a huge collection of PS2 games that i cant play well... (i use PCSX2, but its not very smooth on my PC)

Neat. I might pick up War of the Monsters. I always wanted to play that but never got around to it.

I still don't understand why I can't play my PS1 Classics on my PS4, though...

i guess.. it just sucks because MS let us have disc based BC for NEWER games... i dont see why sony thought it would be okay to not at the very least give us proper disc based PS2 BC... kinda a step backwards from their initial "competition" with Xbox's features...

It's pretty selective, to be fair, in both cases.

You're gaining significantly more in the PS2 scenario, I'd say. The performance of 360 games on Xbox One isn't 1:1, sometimes running a bit dodgy. The PS2 to PS4 situation gives you a frame rate/stability boost, improved visuals, trophies that didn't exist before, and share play.

No, this is incorrect. They are shutting down download list from PSP. You can get them from the web store onto Vita or PS3 (or from PS3/Vita stores) but you CAN'T redownload them from the PSP. Stop talking about shit you don't understand.

http://www.gamespot.com/forums/system-wars-314159282/sony-psp-officially-dead-sept-15th-31547700/

" The shutdown is only on the server side of things, so users can still download PSP content on their PS3, PS Vita, or PS4, then manually transfer it to their PSP’s if they like."

If you don't HAVE a PS3/PS Vita (PS4 actually won't work for obvious reasons) you are SOL. Now, think to 2019 where you will NOT be able to download that shit to PS4/PS5.

What the hell? Do you have to be so insulting?
Any you're quoting some forum post from well over a year ago.

Read the UPDATE:
Sony has issued an official statement to us which you can read below.

As of September 15, 2014, we closed the PlayStation®Store for PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) in European and PAL regions. PSP users will still be able to purchase PSP content from the Sony Entertainment Network Online Store as well as redownload content they purchased in the past from the download list on their PSP systems.”

Here are Sony's official directions:
https://www.playstation.com/en-au/g...ontent/how-to-download-purchases-to-your-psp/

To download your purchases from your PSP download list:

On the XMB Menu, go to > [PlayStation Network] > [Account Management] > [Transaction Management] > [Download List].
Select [Download List] and press (X button).
Choose the content you want to download and press (X button).
The item will download to your PSP system.
Once the content has been copied go to [Games] or [Video]* > [Memory Stick] to install or view your content.

So what were you saying ?

I gave away all my PS2 stuffs to my young cousin, so the price here is actually pretty good for me. I would love to revisit some of the old games. They are not on the list yet though.

They don't care about disc BC to that extent. Yoshida himself said so remember?

But they do care about digital emulation, cause that would rake in the dough for them to control prices and drip feed games to newer players who don't own the original hardware or software.

Nice. Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits looked quite good in the ps2 on ps4 trailer, never got around to throwing that in PCSX2 to see what it would look like.

That was a cool game, I'd be interested in playing it again eventually.

Just played some Star Wars: Racer Revenge on PS4. Very smooth gameplay, and the visuals look much improved.

It's says now in the store but can't find them was this a premature announcement?
I imagine it was supposed to be a PSX announcement but after leaks and people's expectations they figured the reaction would be......well, this

Better to get any negativity out of the way before the conference I'd assume

Gotcha thanks was to lazy to read 15 pages

This was probably for the best I know there's a lot of mixed feelings I honestly can't wait for this to go live

Pricing seems a little steep. Other than that I really have no problem with how they are going about it. Getting them 1080p and I suppose widescreen support and trophies as well seems great to me.

For them to re-work games making them full 1080p, along w/ adding trophies and other features isn't just a straight rom dump and charging $10 like last gen. This has more to it which is why they are more expensive. I rather pay $5 more for updated standards on the games personally.

Last gen we had a ton of collections of PS2 games and people bought them and were completely fine with it. The God of War ones went for $20 a game, since the packages were $40. Now, it's upsetting when they release them on PS4. I don't get it.

I don't see what's so outrageous about the 14.99 prices? You can get 4 games for the price of one current gen game so I'll take it.

There was a precedent set though where you buy them digitally and they go to the next home console, it started with PS3 where......wait

I'm definitely getting Dark Cloud when it goes up. I'll be picking up a bunch more in future flash sales and whatnot. I know many don't care for trophies, but the thought of unlocking them in all these old ps2 games is really exciting for me.

Anything is possible now.

Ugh, this is the worst way they could have gone about things. Blegh.

Yes please. Already looked pretty decent on the PS2.

If I could play Shadow of Rome in 1080p I would actually consider dropping $15 for that. I adore that game.

That's true, I will wait for user impressions and go from there.

Shadow of Rome is my all time second favorite game from Capcom(first being RE4). Awesome awesome game, puzzles, two different characters with different play styles(Agrippa the gladiatorial guy while Octavianus is the more stealth using pebbles to distract guards guy). Brilliant brilliant game, fantastic boss battles yo.

Math is right, but is that a fair trade? You would forgo a beautiful current generation game in favor of 4 games from 10 years ago that looks a little better than the original? That you probably have already played, and may just boot up once and never go back to?

That's the thing though, we've had a few last gen digital games come over, like Brothers off the top of my head, and it was not discounted or brought over, just a full price game again. All the remasters were brought over as new games and people are fine. I definitely can understand the disappointment of not having PS2 games already owned not being carried over, but I don't remember when they said they would carry over. That might be something I missed, though. I think it's the rumor that they will be played from the disc and now that the rumor turned out to be untrue, this is the backlash, I guess?

But the prices aren't that horrible. Let's see how they play, and then judge the prices. The Star Wars games run really well, so maybe it does justify the price in some cases.

Seeking audience's attention, they'd throw you weapons/meat, meat on one hand to give you health with each bite and a scimitar on the other for mutilation. Shadow of Rome was an underrated gem of a title from Capcom for the PS2.

Demand for Xenosaga is surprisingly high in this thread. I didn't realize there were so many of us! Keep it up, guys! Make some noise! Tweet Yoshida!
