Fan Favorite PS2 Games Launching on PS4 Tomorrow

I'm a bit disappointed that there's no cross buy, or even an upgrade discount, but I suppose at least it's nice to see PS2 games on the PS4 finally. Just wish that I hadn't bought all those Atlus games though, because it seems like a waste of money as I'm likely to rebuy them for the PS4 if they come out, and I've not played them yet.

Definitely getting Rogue Galaxy, that's been on my radar for years.

This is single handedly the whingiest whiniest forum on the Internet when it comes to video games and it's really fucking annoying lately.

Why are people so up in arms about something like this? If you don't think it's a good thing then don't buy them! Like some people have said these aren't simple games that will be put up on PS4 in 5 minutes. Someone had to QA everything, like trophies. Re-license costs etc. Even the upressed graphics can introduce glitches. So this all had to be tested. Do none of you know nothing about development?

If you don't like it don't buy it is a silly argument on a message board we come here to discuss stuff like this and if people don't like it they shouldn't just shut up about it. This would be a really boring place if every thread on here was people just going wow X is amazing and I love Y.

Majority of people aren't Neogaf and will love this feature. Most people who once had PS2s no longer have them and any of the games are long gone/lost. As for the PS2 classics in PS3 yes it is a bit disappointing they haven't carried across but honestly there weren't many PS2 games on the store to begin with so this again doesn't affect a great deal of people. Neogaf makes it sound like its millions. Again it's just a select few people vs the millions of owners of PS4

Good for them it still doesn't stop people from feeling shafted that their purchases aren't carrying over especially when Sony have previously allowed PS1 games to transfer over from PSP to PS3 to PSVita.

I'll wait until San Andreas is a suitable price for a 12 year old game I've bought four times (two of which on a Sony system)

A piss poor selection though. I admit my tastes weren't varied during the PS2 years, but I don't recognise any of those save for the GTA titles.

This thread should be a place to discuss the titles coming today and other exciting future possibilities this will bring. I don't come here getting excited about negativity and hatred and seeing people whining about the price or carry overs. Make a seperate thread for it so I know not to click into it.

Of all the great PS2 RPGs, they choose this. Wat. And 15 $, yeah no. I'll jut plug in my PS2 again and play it there.

Are these prices relatively speaking any worse than Nintendo charging WAAAY over the odds for old NES games that were literally like a few hundred kilobytes big..?

I think for people who'd bought the same games as PS2 classics on PS3 this does suck, and I'd rather see $10 which for me could translate down to £5/6 but looks more like they might be up to £10 in the UK. That IS steep, but if they release anything I truly want to play again I'll maybe consider it. I wonder if Gran Turismo 3/4 comes to this if they can allow you to have analogue trigger control for accelerator/brake. Since these are tailor made ports surely they would do that.
This is exactly why I cut wii games out. Rather buy real copies and emulate.

I went through most the thread and seems way more than half aren't into Sony's plan.

Inlay good, if they want to work on those prices and what not I'll be there. For now, no way.

I just think they are going about this the wrong way. And yeah Nintendo and ms both have prices too high imo.

10 dollars has to be the cut off and it would entice me to get more.

But this line up is really week. I mean half the games are gta... What's the point in that?

I'm going to stop buying ps1 games on ps3. Seems they have stopped adding and I don't like to play them looking so bad.

And they won't be going to ps4 anyways.

This really seems like a bad plan.

I mean Sony what are you doing. Essentially killing a lot of sales on ps3 I guess.

I'm enthused for the future of this (please bring the SMT titles over PRONTO!!!), but this initial selection is kind of lacking and, in particular, the price is too much. The trophies and such might make it worth it for some games, but I really don't feel like spending $15 for GTA3 when I've purchased it at least ten times since it came out and, several times, was able to get it for under $5, and that same principle applies to several of these games. They should also have some kind of crossbuy promotion, because when I bought PS1/PS2 classics in the first place, it was under the assumption that I'd be able to carry them throughout hardware iterations like Steam games. If they're planning to just keep milking me for money like this, I think I won't be upgrading.

I don't care about discs. I just don't want to rebuy the ISO dumps I already paid for at an increased price.

I don't care about any 'improvements'. I just want my Classics library to work.

This whole thing just backfired on Sony massively, wow. And hours before PSX as well. Kinda casts a dark cloud on their upcoming conference.

But yeah, this isn't the right way to incorporate backwards compatibility on a new system. They fucked up.
I don't understand how people don't get this. But no we're just a bunch of whiners

If previously owned Classics were playable, I could accept the $15 price point, since these new versions have improvements over them (which mostly cost 9,99 if I recall correctly - that's the sweet spot for me).

The way they are now, no buy for me. If they go back and make the original Classics playable, sure, i'm all in.

But in the end i'm an idiot because
if they put Suikoden V or Ace Combat games in there I will buy them immediately :/

Sony make this happen please...

....and Kof Maximum Impact too.

I am excited about this, and I'll get both Dark Cloud and Rogue Galaxy today. It's okay if they don't have plats, but it would be pretty neat if they did.

Shu said many of the PS2 Classics had one so, since we are talking about 2 lengthy JRPGs, it would make sense.

I am okay with prices ranging from $10 to $15, as long as they don't go past that I'll consistently get the ones I'm most interested in :)

Wishlists of games that actually might happen:

Viewtiful Joe 1 & 2
Prince of Persia Trilogy
Timesplitters 2 (not as much work as a HD remaster, what's the licensing deal with this?)

That's it. Man so many licensed games I love on PS2 :(

They are not strictly emulating the hardware, but what it tries to do.
Thus rendering of texture can be handled by GCN texture units and there is no need to emulate everything TEX does internally to get it done with a CPU.

Basic idea for more resolution. (same as with any machine.)
Rendering area is made bigger and co-ordinates of rendered polygons are fitted accordingly. (if needed)
This gives you a nice high resolution version of the same scene.

Basic idea for throphies is to flag a memory location within emulation for a change and link ps4 throphy for it.

So you're saying Sony only need Konami permission to get Suikoden and Silent Hill emulated?
Then yes please!!

15$ might be a bit much, but if Rogue Galaxy is also available in Europe at 12-15€ it's a much better deal than elsewhere, where a used copy of that game costs like 40€.

I don't recall much of a backlash at Ninty for charging people for VC titles they already own.

This isn't to call anyone out as a hypocrite or anything, the situation is different enough that it's perfectly acceptable to find that okay, but not this. However the entire thing is a slippery slope. If Njnty had gotten crucified for it, there's no way Sony would have gone this route. Same with paid online.

They do it because they think they can get away with it. We should look more at things like the "X-Box 180" and try to replicate that moving forward when dealing with stuff that seems less than fair.

These games are definitely coming out in the uk/eu today right?
Im holding off buying XCX to play rogue galaxy.
Edit: Answered in another thread.

Yes, the people paying $15 for something they already own are the smart ones. What a bunch of tossers we are.

I'd say the smart ones are the ones that just use their PS2/PS3 instead of complaining about not getting something extra. It may be an inconvenience to leave the old consoles hooked up or w/e, but literally nothing has changed about the previous ability to play PS2 games in the past few days. The anger is insane.

Is it about 6pm gmt?
Because I could be buying...Rogue Galaxy, maybe a GTA, and probably that ffvii PC to ps4 port

If that FF7 port hits today, everything else will be dropped until the game is 100%.

Yet you're not paying for anything. If you have the PS2 disc, great, insert it into your PS2 and play to your heart's content. If you care about trophies, up-ressed 1080p, share play etc... then spending $10 - $15 doesn't seem like a bad deal. I own Rogue Galaxy and pretty much all the games on that list, am I still going to pay for Rogue Galaxy just for the trophy support and 1080p? You betcha.

Wow I could go for some Viewtiful Joe right now. All the Onimusha games too.

Sure, people moan about anything on the net but I feel Sony could have been clearer, sooner in regards to speculation about this.

This is not the backwards compatibility. Its the option to rebuy old games on PS4. Thats fine in itself but I get why some people are a bit miffed

I can't wait to dive into the old PS2 GTA games. I have not played them since they came out. Trophy support makes the difference for me about buying them again. Would love to get the platinum in those nostalgic games.

15 dollars is a little too much, but hell.. People will still buy them in huge numbers.

I can put a 20-year-old PS1 disc in a PS3. I can put a ten year old 360 disc in an Xbox One. Why is this treated like a ridiculous expectation?

Because you must defend the company you like to the death and they can never make a bad decision.

I love my ps4. It's an awesome system. But there's no excuse for the price.

And don't like it don't buy it is such a dumb argument. I want to like it. I want some ps2 games. I don't want to pay a huge fee

I 100%-d GTAIII and Vice City earlier this year on PS3 as part of an intended long term series replay so will definitely buy San Andreas for trophies and play that version instead.

Looking forward to seeing how these games look/run compared to the PS2 classics line.

This kinda crap is while I'll always keep my PS3 around. Huge selections of both JP and US PS1 and PS2 games, and they go on sale/flash sale all the time.

Don't like it? Don't buy it.

Always vote with your wallet. It's dumb to just cry into the wind.

Me? I might get some of these provided they line up with a gap in time with nothing to play. Rogue Galaxy was fun.
