Fan Favorite PS2 Games Launching on PS4 Tomorrow

Onimusha is a given considering the trademarks few days ago. Hope we'll get this one as well;

Never got a chance to play it.

I hope your right, it's been too long since I played Onimusha. Blade warriors was great with a friend as well. It actually finally pushed a pal of mine to give the main series a go.

San Andreas is worth $15 no matter which universe you're in.

Especially since the Steam version got replaced by the mobile version, that won't run on my PC.

I hope it's available in Germany, too. There's a censored version of GTA San Andreas and last year it tooks weeks until it was released on Xbox 360 here.

I don't recall much of a backlash at Ninty for charging people for VC titles they already own.

Well said, and in comparison, Sony is actually adding additional features to these unlike Nintendo did with VC. That said, I always thought VC was overpriced and only bought titles when they went on sale and will likely do the same thing with these or wait for them to be free on PS+.

This isn't to call anyone out as a hypocrite or anything, the situation is different enough that it's perfectly acceptable to find that okay, but not this. However the entire thing is a slippery slope. If Njnty had gotten crucified for it, there's no way Sony would have gone this route. Same with paid online.

They do it because they think they can get away with it. We should look more at things like the "X-Box 180" and try to replicate that moving forward when dealing with stuff that seems less than fair.

I've criticised Nintendo a lot for the way they handle their digital games across different platforms. It's really annoyed me and prevented me from buying anything from their digital stores. I always advocated they should be more like Sony who let you play your PS1 Classics across several devices without needing to but them again. Cross save to.

But the way Sony have handled PS2 on PS4 is even worse than what Nintendo are doing. The price itself I'm fine with. The lack of compatibility for existing purchases is what annoys me. Even an upgrade fee would annoy me and we don't even have that.

I don't even own Rogue Galaxy and it's a game I'm interested in and was looking forward to buying only two days ago. I would have happily paid the price they're currently asking for. But now I feel reluctant to buy it because I expect Sony to charge me to play it again later down the line. So I'll only get these PS2 games if and when they get ridiculously cheap sales.

So Nintendo didn't add save states, Miiverse integration or gamepad support and streaming?

Completely, utterly ignoring the fact you CAN play every single VC title on the Wii U.

Completely and utterly ignoring the line "the situation is different enough that it's perfectly acceptable to find that okay, but not this".

I am not saying the situation is the same, I straight out said it wasn't. Did you stop reading at that point? What I am saying is that if Nintendo had gotten dogpiled hard for that we wouldn't be seeing this.

The slippery slope is considered slippery for a reason.

I pretty much agree with this in full. I think Sony is adding more value to the games than Ninty did, but I still think they are not even making the prepurchase concession discount. The end result is bad, worse than WiiU because on WiiU you can say screw it and just play them in Wii mode (Which is what I end up doing).

Honestly if they let us keep owning the game if we bought it on ps3 and even better if they let us use our old discs Sony would be awesome now, instead they are being a big disappointment.

Can you play purchased VC titles across the DS/3DS/Wii/Wii U? Let's be real, Nintendo is not a company we should be putting on a pedestal when it comes to how to handle digital content and user accounts.

No. Nintendo don't remotely deserve a pedestal. Their practices have always been bad. But in the most recent transition off Wii > Wii U, they've done it far better than Sony have in this instance.

That's what makes this is so stupid and funny for the wrong reasons. Nintendo are bad. Sony have somehow managed to be worse

So many people are complaining because Sony has spoiled us in the past. I think $10-15 is more than fair because of the extra work they are doing. If you don't like it, bust out your old ps2 and play them that way. The only thing I think Sony should have considered was maybe give a slight discount to the people who already purchased the ps2 classics on PS3. It doesn't have to be as cheap as Nintendo but a little discount would be nice. All that being said, I am super excited that Sony is bring back titles from the best gaming library of all time. Also it's not even worth complaining about the price because these babies are all gonna go in sale eventually. Wait it out of you feel it is too much. It's not like we all don't have enough to play anyway.

You can play every single Wii game on Wii U.

You can play your VC content through BC mode on the Wii U. You can't use the Gamepad, but you can play the library you spent years building up. Quit being ignorant.

I have a question in regards to Twisted Metal Black (that im sure will apply to every game anyways)

I never used share play so sorry if im not sure about it

When they say you can play share play for the ps2 games, does it mean that I can play with a friend who doesnt own the game via online? Because I remember Twisted Metal had splitscreen.

So would the multiplayer be splitscreen or each player has their own screen? or would it just mirror the splitscreen on both players TV?

This is super intriguing. Wonder how many games we might be able to play co-op through Shareplay in.

Yet you're not paying for anything. If you have the PS2 disc, great, insert it into your PS2 and play to your heart's content. If you care about trophies, up-ressed 1080p, share play etc... then spending $10 - $15 doesn't seem like a bad deal. I own Rogue Galaxy and pretty much all the games on that list, am I still going to pay for Rogue Galaxy just for the trophy support and 1080p? You betcha.

My feelings as well. $15 seems fair for a list price, and the game will have frequent flash sales as well for those who think the price is too high. I'll buy twisted metal today for $10.

I'll be all over Ape Escape and Katamari games when they are available. :)

Wow. Expensive, non-upgradeable/transferable, and no disc support. Pretty much the complete opposite of how it should have been. Huge disappointment. Won't be picking up any of these.

Those are expensive games that I'll probably need to buy again on PS5.

Sony really soured my trust on this one.

Why even an upgrade path? Nintendo also shouldn't have done it.

Yes, the work they did on these games cost them money but not every company decision should be based on trying to make people pay for stuff. Sometimes you can eat some of the cost for your consumers to be happy. To earn goodwill. This is a very anti-consumer way to handle things.

The fact that Microsoft did BC really well so soon just makes this even worse.

It is the norm though. Nintendo does it and MS does as well (though it's for 360 titles, not original Xbox releases).

Wii U VC releases add improvements over their Wii VC counterparts and you pay a small upgrade fee if you want them (or you carry over the original VC games to your WiI U for free).

360 digital games on XB1 add fewer improvements (mainly V-Sync and some basic XB1 features) but they're completely free to current license holders.

This is absolutely the current industry norm and Sony is bucking the trend by at least not offering some form of discount to people who purchased PS2 Classics on PS3.

I agree with all of these comments.

Sony did such a great job handling PS1 classics on PS3, PSP, and PS Vita. It's deplorable to see that they're bungling PS2 classics on PS4.

Xbox One owners can play their previously purchased downloadable Xbox 360 games without paying anything more. Not one thin dime. Not one red cent.

Wii U owners can play their previously purchased downloadable Wii games without paying anything more. Not one thin dime. Not one red cent.

In light of this, there's no reason why Sony shouldn't give downloadable PS2 classics similar treatment, and allow them to carry over between PS3 and PS4 at no extra charge.

Well said and really what I was trying to say but you articulated it perfectly. Give me Grandia 2, Dark Cloud 2, Persona 3 FES, etc. with those added features and I have no problem paying the price of admission even though I already own them and have an OG PS3 that plays them.

Vice city confirmed though. And that's already 15

I'll bite

same here. i still have that 15 buck credit from the promotion earlier this year so that will do nicely.

15 is worth it for my favorite grand theft auto plus the best soundtrack in the history of gaming.

edit: also, mark of kri is on my radar. i missed it the first time around and really should play it. i have heard nothing but good things.

Because you must defend the company you like to the death and they can never make a bad decision.

I love my ps4. It's an awesome system. But there's no excuse for the price.

And don't like it don't buy it is such a dumb argument. I want to like it. I want some ps2 games. I don't want to pay a huge fee

This is perfectly how I feel about this news and about this thread. I love the idea, don't love the price. I think 15 bucks would be perfect for a compilation of 2-3 of these games, something like that.

It's not the worst, especially when you look at the prices these games typically sit at on Steam when not on sale. $10-15 is about what I expected, considering the upgrades and new features.

The real crime is the lack of cross buy or upgrade fee options, but I personally don't own these particular PS2 Classics outside of TM Black (which was a freebie with the 2012 game anyway).

I think these are $5 less then ps2 remasters. I remeber ico, sotc, and okami being $20. Probably every ps2 remaster was $20 or less.

The only issue here is the lack of a cross buy or upgrade fee if they do not exist but again we don't know if they do or do not because Sony hasn't really talked about this.

The price is not an issue at all and anyone saying it is wasn't going to buy them in the first place.

^ Would be cool if Namco Bandai added Naruto Ultimate Ninja 4 as a pre order bonus for Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 4

We need Downhill Domination ><

The only biking game i've liked since 2Xtreme

Downhill is a blast.

The best thing about it is that it's very likely to happen and be $10.

Not to mention that there was an upgrade fee of about $1.50 if you wanted to play it with the Wii U upgrade.

Will Sony offer anything like that?

They didn't really do anything to improve the VC games though, right? They weren't even running at a higher resolution.

I'd like a $2-5 upgrade option if you owned the classic on PSN.

I first flipped out at the price at first, but after thinking about all the features Sony have added, I do believe the $10 to $15 dollar range is acceptable.

I really do hope Sony adds crossbuy due to our complaints. Crossbuy/Crosssave are my favorite features Sony have provided with PS1 Classics and various titles on PS3 and PSVita. To get rid of both of these features for PS2 games on PS4 really makes me question my future purchases on their store regarding Classics.

I realize that they have put time and effort with adding trophy support, share play, and other features, so Id even compromise on an upgrade fee. Not giving us the option just makes me sad.

It would be the same as if your friend was there locally. The split screen would still show for both people. They won't be changing the game code at all for this. I believe there's a limitation of only sharing with one person at a time, but you can do guests on that console, so you could do 2 people on one console and 2 people on another (if the game supports 4). I'm really excited about online War of the Monsters.

Well I hope they announce more games soon. I was going to play Suikoden or Nocturne on ps3 but now I gotta wait to see if we get a better version. Grr

Nintendo has received near-constant criticism for their account systems and lack of cross buy. When they announced Wii U versions of titles already available on the Wii Virtual Console and stated there would be a small upgrade fee, they received criticism from that. Pretty much anyone that isn't a Nintendo diehard fan has always been critical of how Nintendo handles their digital sales.
