Fan Favorite PS2 Games Launching on PS4 Tomorrow

Y'all gonna bitch about anything.
I don't see anyone complaining about Wii games going for $15-20 on the Wii U eShop.

Then you're either blind or looking the other way on purpose.
Also why the hell does it even matter and why have you felt compelled to bring that up?
Mario galaxy 2 or Xenoblade are a hell of a lot newer than Dark Cloud or freakin' GTA 3. Even then, the two virtual plarforms aren't comparable (these PS4 offerings are nicely uprendered and, for the people caring, offer Trophies support), there's absolutely no reason to bring your (fake) anectodal musing in here if not for stirring shit up with console wars bs.

It's a way of saying he doesn't like the selection nor their prices.
Have you never heard the expression?

Don't find them that pricey at all. Yes, I would prefer to have them cheaper. But I also would like to have PS1 classics cheaper and some indies (the ones that technologically are not better than PS2 games) of the PSN store cheaper.

Specially when you add into account the fact that they are being "remastered" in some way or another.

Am I going to buy them? Heck no. I prefer new games. But I believe these are games for a type of consumer that would pay up to 30 for some of these classics

Would also like to see this

I hope we get the Drakengard games. Never got to play the first two because my backwards compatible PS3's disc drive broke.

N64 games are for the most part 10$ and you may have been your memory erased but people complained a lot about VC prices. People also complained about paying a little to re download games previously purchased.

Here it's more expensive, selection of "Fan favorites" is somehow very debatable and there's no discount for having previously purchased the games.

Also what's the need to bring Nintendo here? People are complaining about one thing and you are saying (your opinion) that it's the same elsewhere?

So since there's a bad practice precedent you give a free pass for all the industry?
Smart.

Nintendo also offers a fairly low upgrade price to go from Wii to Wii U on most games and yeah, as you point out Wii is equivalent to PS3 in generation terms.

Edit: Oh yeah, and Wii U can play Wii VC games in Wii mode without paying any upgrade pricing. So it's better then the PS4 PS2 games offer in pretty much every way.

Just watched the trailer. Why are there black bars on the side of the video? Shouldn't the footage be taking up the whole screen?

None of the starting list of titles in that video support native widescreen output. I think the GTA games support pillarboxed widescreen in their options, so you can adjust your display to zoom for a sort of anamorphic widescreen.

Expecting Disc support is really stupid because they are 10-15 years old games (not like 5-6 years of XBox360 which is still supported) due to licensing issues. Also they are adding very few selected PS2 games with improvements, Trophies and Steaming/SharePlay features which clearly proves that its not easy for them to apply these changes easily to several games at once like emulation, so they are doing some work in order to get these working and its just not emulation. I hope they allow existing users of PS2 classics in PS3 for an upgrade fee to get the cross buy at least even though PS2 classics list in PS3 was very short.
I don't care about discs. I just don't want to rebuy the ISO dumps I already paid for at an increased price.

I don't care about any 'improvements'. I just want my Classics library to work.

Rogue Galaxy is still more expensive on disc than the PSN price..so I'm cool with that. can't wait to finally play it >.<

wait we will get the games tonight 20PM GMT? holy shit yes.

This whole thing just backfired on Sony massively, wow. And hours before PSX as well. Kinda casts a dark cloud on their upcoming conference.

But yeah, this isn't the right way to incorporate backwards compatibility on a new system. They fucked up.

I would have bit on these for like 5-8 bucks, 15? Sorry but no way, that's lke the price of NEW "downloadable" titles.

Some people are being absolutely venomous to Shu on Twitter. Mostly about SOCOM.

Ah. That might be slightly frustrating. Anyway, thanks!

Wonder if we'll get DQ8 as a classic when DQ8 3DS is coming to the west next year.

Besides Rogue Galaxy, I really want Star Ocean 3 and Valkyrie Profile 2.

Yeah, so the bought PS2 classics will only remain on the PS3, that's really not how I imagined backwards compatibility would turn out, considering how well they handled cross-buy with PS1 games on PS3/Vita and things like free Flower/Journey upgrades for PS4....

Booo Sony boooo! Shame on you. I'll eventually buy some PS2 games I never owned but definitely not for 15$ or even 10$, cause I don't give a shit about trophies and all the other added social gimmicks. There's no guarantee we'll even be allowed to play them on PS5...

This is exactly how I feel. Yeah, if they have some flash sale I'll grab Rogue Galaxy for $5 but that's' all folks. Not going to pay $15 for an emulator for single game when they are not going to even bother with bringing that forward. Sony lost a lot of good will with this move which they got from PSX compatibility and in general. Of course Sony does not care as MS dropped the ball this gen and Nintendo, well, has Wii U.

The PS2 Classic and PS2 disc incompatibility doesn't worry me personally, since I only own one Classic (God Hand) and I'm from PAL Land so I'll be buying digitally off the US store to avoid the 50hz demon, but they sure seem like boneheaded decisions. Obviously Sony wants more $$$, but I can't imagine they're going to be raking in millions from a few PS2 games in 2016.

Hopefully they get some more enticing games up before long, and for more enticing prices, too. I think the GTA III trilogy are three of the best games ever made, but they're rough to go back to these days with their weird controls and lack of checkpoints in missions. Wake me up when they get some of the Capcom golden era action games on there.

do we know what version the psn eu will have?

What about KHIII?

Certainly that one will be.
As far as I know the issue was Utada Hikaru and her songs, so if they don't include those I think it might be available digitally. TBH they have never really made clear the reason for no digital version.

Lol.

Well it won the poll for most requested game on PSN. If its the most requested game shouldn't someone at least explain why it isn't being considered?

No one should be vulgar or use personal attacks but constructive criticism seems reasonable. It was once what Halo is to Xbox and the fans just want some sort of acknowledgment after years of campaigning.

Personally I don't know if I would even want to play old Socom 2 even if they implemented online somehow, but I think the franchise deserves another shot.

Getting Dark Cloud and Rogue Galaxy. But what the hell happened to Dark Cloud 2? Never played the first one, is it worth getting if I love 2? Heard it's not close to the same quality...

And $15 is quite hefty...

Oh of course, criticsm if definitely warranted; but there are some personal attacks being flung around that are quite awful. It's the latter I take issue with.

This is single handedly the whingiest whiniest forum on the Internet when it comes to video games and it's really fucking annoying lately.

Why are people so up in arms about something like this? If you don't think it's a good thing then don't buy them! Like some people have said these aren't simple games that will be put up on PS4 in 5 minutes. Someone had to QA everything, like trophies. Re-license costs etc. Even the upressed graphics can introduce glitches. So this all had to be tested. Do none of you know nothing about development?

Majority of people aren't Neogaf and will love this feature. Most people who once had PS2s no longer have them and any of the games are long gone/lost. As for the PS2 classics in PS3 yes it is a bit disappointing they haven't carried across but honestly there weren't many PS2 games on the store to begin with so this again doesn't affect a great deal of people. Neogaf makes it sound like its millions. Again it's just a select few people vs the millions of owners of PS4

Neogaf really is the minority and it really does show because Sony wouldn't do something like this at all if they listened to people on here.

I for one am looking forward to enjoying these games I played years ago with trophies, better graphics and PS4 OS. The prices seem reasonable.

I have a question in regards to Twisted Metal Black (that im sure will apply to every game anyways)

I never used share play so sorry if im not sure about it

When they say you can play share play for the ps2 games, does it mean that I can play with a friend who doesnt own the game via online? Because I remember Twisted Metal had splitscreen.

So would the multiplayer be splitscreen or each player has their own screen? or would it just mirror the splitscreen on both players TV?
