Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Chunk 1 (CyberConnect2, UE4) Trailer, "PS4 Console Debut"

But is it actually action based or just really flashy ATB system (like FFXIII)?

What is that gauge?

And why would there be a DEFEND command instead of a button, if it was completely action?

"Flashy ATB" is what it looked like to me. It has menus and stuff, who has time for menus if it was really an action RPG?

Balls. It was my fault for hoping I guess. I'll wait until some more info comes out about the battle system but it looks like another borderline-automated system.

The first gif u can see the command bar greying out on each swing. Considering defend is a command that means you lose the ability to defend during attack, so no cancelling attacks into anything. The second gif they have a full bar and use a super, but it doesnt consume the bar, not once did I see the bar being consumed once a super was used. Now it could be a timing thing with the video cutting off before then, but its odd.

based on these gifs, this actually seems somewhat plausible

Yeah I just noticed the last menu item is 'defend'. Doesn't that seem to imply a slightly slower more ATB system? I mean if it was full on KH action style would defend just be it's own button?

Uh... is it even FFVII if you throw out the combat for whatever the fuck action-rpg replacement?

People want VII precisely because it's not the new crap.

I don't even care about this now.

So... Action RPG?...

If I wanted to play ARPG I would play KH3 or FF15...

Now that we've seen combat gameplay, I think the thing I'm most curious about is how the world map will be handled considering how much time you spend on it later in the game.

Innovate or die. I had high expectations and still managed to meet them. Good job SE. You're getting back in shape after all these years =']

Guys, is 2015 all a dream? If so, please don't wake me, lol.

kingdom hearts does menus, as versus 13 was going to. They are terrible in motion but the combat type does exist. I agree that the defend button being a command is what throws it off, as well as the command list greying on each action choice

In the reveal trailer, SE said embrace what comes.

You guys embracing??

Looks amazing IMO. FF7 is such a strong focus on story, I've never found it's gameplay to really be the highlight. The pacing, storytelling, graphics seem to be focused on with the highest attention to detail. I think they will nail it, and re-tell this story amazingly well.

What was the date when FF7's combat became terrible?
The FF series has always had awful combat. Some of the worst RPG combat out there. I don't know if I like the new direction it is going in, but let's not pretend it was interesting in the original. RPGs with great combat systems:

Grandia
Chrono Trigger
Shadow Hearts
Final Fantasy Tactics

That is all that comes to my mind.

IT FINALLY

RAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWR

Where are people seeing "AC Cloud"?

No one actually remembers what AC Cloud looks like.

He looks totally different in the remake, he actually looks incredibly similar to his original design.

Though his lanky arms do look freaky, I don't mind because
considering the genetic experimentation done to him, it makes him look more unnatural and I think it fits

If you told me a decade ago that I would be one of the few people defending Final Fantasy 7 as a good game, I straight up would not have believed you, lol.

Yup, I don't get it. I thought people liked FF7, yet all I'm seeing is people celebrating SE changing one of things that made FF7 great. Now I'm not so sure anymore that people actually liked FF7.

I understand bringing the game up to date with modern game mechanics but this just looks like they flipped the entire original battle system on its head and then threw it in the garbage. This is not FF7 at all to me.

After that trailer, I still want to play the game because I love the FF7 universe, but I'm more excited for FF15, and I know I will be disappointed by FF7R regardless of how low I set my expectations.

I don't think I would be surprised if Aerith lives and they change the story at this point.

lol

I'd be surprised if they kept something like a world-map in.

People were expecting 20-year old turn based combat? It's a remake for a reason, and not using advancements in gameplay and technology would be missing the point entirely.

It's turn-based combat. How old it is doesn't make it worse. The Persona and SMT games are doing just fine with turn-based combat.

On a positive note, I will say that they really nailed the characters and tone. It really looks great. It just makes the combat change even more painful.

THOSE MAKO EYES :_______:

I think it looks fantastic so far.

Advancements are not shifting the genre. X-2 is an advancement from standard ATB. This is not, it's a sidestep.

I rarely become overhyped to the point of irrationality, but I will fight anyone who doesn't view this objectively as the best game of all time. Come at me, bros!

Sup.

Voice acting is garbage and combat looks like nomura copy pasted the combat from that other FF game that he couldn't get done.

Exactly my thoughts, the game looks great.

This got this old man's heart racing and squealing like a little girl. The nostalgia is real. Hopefully we can explore most of the environments shown, because roaming around such a realized Midgar is like a dream come true. I wonder how they'll do the rest of the world, I don't know if they announced anything regarding the overworld?

Would have preferred turn-based combat but that's probably not an option for the Square of today, hopefully the action combat is deep enough.

I don't think I would be surprised if Aerith lives and they change the story at this point.

Why do you say this when everything we have seen up to this point has been faithful to the original, (besides the battle system of course)

The damn dialogue is practically 1:1 from the first game.

I'd like to think that they would go with a modern open-world approach, but who knows if they have the resources for something like that

Who is "people"?

Seriously guys, there's the door. We expected it to be different.

There is a product for those not wanting to have innovations and changes..... :P and it's out today apparently ;)
I wanted a remake that fixed what was actually inherently broken with FFVII (the graphics) and didn't replace the battle system with Nomura's brand of trash, but apparently that's too much to ask for?
