Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Chunk 1 (CyberConnect2, UE4) Trailer, "PS4 Console Debut"

Well, FFVII is being made today, in a market that doesn't support turn based games. lol

And what is more "modern" about real time games, or what isn't "modern" about turn based games? what does that even mean?

People like to ignore that real-time combat has existed just as long as turn-based has and act like it's somehow more "modern" or an "advancement".

Personally I don't care about what they do to this game. I have no love for FFVII, but I can understand why people would be upset that the remake they've wanted for so long actually turns out to be a reimagining.

It's true that the popular mindset is that real-time>turn-based, and if they want the game to sell they should probably cave. But the idea that real-time is "modern" is absurd and ignoring the reality and history of video games.

Cloud has a smoother, rounder, softer face in AC and is actually more muscular than his original character art. The remake version is more true to the source. I know that some have argued but it seems intact from the opening as he still doesn't give a shit about the planet, he's here to do a job. Also a Sasuke personality collage, because I'm just not seeing the comparison.

This is another thing. I've been asking for this for more than a decade. I stopped having faith in the series, so I put all my hope in something that was already done and knew for a fact I loved. As long as they remained faithful, I saw no way Square could fuck it up. But they did anyway!

This is exactly it. The demand for this remake came from the fans of FFVII. You then present something that is a departure from FFVII in core gameplay values and just say "It's not for you, you don't matter anymore, at least you still have the original." (as many in this thread have said). That is going to make people upset.

I found Kingdom Hearts to be mushy button mash garbage.
It's pretty far from that, especially if you play on harder difficulty levels introduced in Final Mixes & latter games in the franchise. I mean, sure, the basic combos are made by mashing the button, but there's so much more to the battle system than just mashing the attack button. You can block, counter & dodge enemy attacks, there's magic, you have to constantly move & re-position yourself in relation to enemies, attacking can take timing if you want to be efficient, there's aerial combat & some platforming elements to fighting certain enemies etc. To reduce all of that to just "lol, crap button-smashing" means you seriously do not understand or appreciate action RPG combat design at all.

If you think KH is some kind of mindless action RPG crapfest, then what on EARTH do you see in FFVII's original combat? That's about as basic, turn-based a version of "buttonmashing" combat as JRPGs can be.

I don't get this complaint. The entire Midgar sequence is a cinematic, linear affair in the original game. Come on, now.
Yep, and it was awesome. Honestly it was cinematic gaming done right. Impressive set pieces and FMVs but you still had full control over the gameplay sequences, not being constantly interrupted by collapsing floors and being teleported to the next screen while you're exploring for loot and QTEs and all that shit. Hopefully they replicate that feeling.

Which is ?
Pokémon, I'm guessing.

So, for someone who has never played final fantasy 7, should i play the original first before getting this, or just play this instead?

I loved the nostalgia of watching AVALANCHE attack the Mako reactor. I understand why they're not doing turn-based, since turn-based RPGs don't sell millions in the west.

FFVII isn't perfect at all, but that's where I see room to improve instead of tossing out everything.

By and large I don't appreciate action RPGs at all, and I find Kingdom Hearts to be among my least favorite.

How could anyone even answer this? This game is nowhere near out.

The original FF7 is widely considered to be a good game. We don't know if this will be a good game, considering how much they are planning on changing. If you think the original looks fun, play it! If you don't, and the changes they make seem appealing, wait.

I've just seen mixed opinions on how well the original has aged.

If FFVII were made today, it would look and play exactly like what we're getting. Modern production design and gameplay.

Really pleased with how this is going.

It would also fail to sell as well as its predecessor.

The ARPG crowd says its for the greater good because it will reach more people, but data shows that isn't true, so why keep repeating this?

Omg I love this!

Looks very good, better than I thought it would. Hopefully everything is kept as the original like the world etc. I don't mind if they change the battle system to the best battle system in a FF game, namely FF12!!!

I have not played the original but I think I too would have preferred TB.

RT is the standard, so I was hoping that SE would use the excuse of preserving a classic to do a bit of a throwback.

Shame.

Well, look at screenshots. :p The combat is ok, it's basically standard FF combat with few gimmicks, and it has random encounters. Unless you have some sort of aversion to old graphics or JRPG conventions, its well worth playing.

Can't wait! Can't believe the turn based hate either :/
Few of us are hating on turn based. It's just that we accept that the remake deviates from the original, and we are looking forward to everything else the game will offer instead of writing the whole thing off based on about 6 seconds of footage. Who is more rational here?

I'll take the look in AC over the 15 year old track runner look

Not much talk is happening about the music. I am glad to hear that it is playing it closer to the original. I was worried they'd try to be cute with it like they did with FFX.
