ff12 is already a departure following your logic but id say it stays quite true to the classic ff especially ff5 with the job system in international.
FF12 WAS a departure! MMO-lite trash. The last traditional FF was X.

Is it? AFAIK, Skyrim sold a lot more than anything else that self-classifies as an "RPG".The most popular RPG series is still turn based.
Well, FFVII is being made today, in a market that doesn't support turn based games. lol
And what is more "modern" about real time games, or what isn't "modern" about turn based games? what does that even mean?
Cloud has a smoother, rounder, softer face in AC and is actually more muscular than his original character art. The remake version is more true to the source. I know that some have argued but it seems intact from the opening as he still doesn't give a shit about the planet, he's here to do a job. Also a Sasuke personality collage, because I'm just not seeing the comparison.
I wonder why they got Barret wearing shades now.
YOU GUYS SQUARE FUCKED UP THIS GAME WE'VE ONLY SEEN 4 MINUTES OF
This is another thing. I've been asking for this for more than a decade. I stopped having faith in the series, so I put all my hope in something that was already done and knew for a fact I loved. As long as they remained faithful, I saw no way Square could fuck it up. But they did anyway!

It's pretty far from that, especially if you play on harder difficulty levels introduced in Final Mixes & latter games in the franchise. I mean, sure, the basic combos are made by mashing the button, but there's so much more to the battle system than just mashing the attack button. You can block, counter & dodge enemy attacks, there's magic, you have to constantly move & re-position yourself in relation to enemies, attacking can take timing if you want to be efficient, there's aerial combat & some platforming elements to fighting certain enemies etc. To reduce all of that to just "lol, crap button-smashing" means you seriously do not understand or appreciate action RPG combat design at all.I found Kingdom Hearts to be mushy button mash garbage.
Jesse Bigs and Wedge were likable from 30 seconds of cutscenes, this game is going to evoke emotions.
Which is ?
Yep, and it was awesome. Honestly it was cinematic gaming done right. Impressive set pieces and FMVs but you still had full control over the gameplay sequences, not being constantly interrupted by collapsing floors and being teleported to the next screen while you're exploring for loot and QTEs and all that shit. Hopefully they replicate that feeling.I don't get this complaint. The entire Midgar sequence is a cinematic, linear affair in the original game. Come on, now.
Pokémon, I'm guessing.Which is ?
If they pulled a Chris Redfield and gave him tree trunk arms then there would be a lot more outrage.Maybe people wanted something more like this.

Remember all the naysayers talking about how FFVII would never work or look good with modern aesthetics?
....yeah
(crow time.)
Nothing about the gameplay of XII was trash. Trippin fam.FF12 WAS a departure! MMO-lite trash. The last traditional FF was X.
Its linear but you could still explore and it wasnt like XIII where you could only go forward.Did you play FFVII ?
The whole first part of the game liner and does open up until you leave midgar .

FFVII isn't perfect at all, but that's where I see room to improve instead of tossing out everything. If you think KH is some kind of mindless action RPG crapfest, then what on EARTH do you see in FFVII's original combat? That's about as basic, turn-based a version of "buttonmashing" combat as JRPGs can be.
Good luck with that.
So, for someone who has never played final fantasy 7, should i play the original first before getting this, or just play this instead?

How could anyone even answer this? This game is nowhere near out.
The original FF7 is widely considered to be a good game. We don't know if this will be a good game, considering how much they are planning on changing. If you think the original looks fun, play it! If you don't, and the changes they make seem appealing, wait.
Didn't Kagari confirm it's a UE4 game?
They're doing a remaster too. Wait for that maybe and skip the originalI've just seen mixed opinions on how well the original has aged.
If FFVII were made today, it would look and play exactly like what we're getting. Modern production design and gameplay.
Really pleased with how this is going.

Few of us are hating on turn based. It's just that we accept that the remake deviates from the original, and we are looking forward to everything else the game will offer instead of writing the whole thing off based on about 6 seconds of footage. Who is more rational here? Can't wait! Can't believe the turn based hate either :/
So let's bury this:

I hope the way we acquire Yuffie is just as quirky and fun.
DOOM OF THE LIVING is a must for me.
I'll take the look in AC over the 15 year old track runner look
Not much talk is happening about the music. I am glad to hear that it is playing it closer to the original. I was worried they'd try to be cute with it like they did with FFX.
Yeah i guesss i'll check out the ps4 remasterWell, look at screenshots. The combat is ok, it's basically standard FF combat with few gimmicks, and it has random encounters. Unless you have some sort of aversion to old graphics or JRPG conventions, its well worth playing.
