Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Chunk 1 (CyberConnect2, UE4) Trailer, "PS4 Console Debut"

So, I never played the original. Only like the first 2 hours. My best friend played it through and I watched him back in the days.

I can understand the disappointment over the combat system change, but I have to say Nomura has a vision for this game, please give him a chance before shitting all over the place. Take a deep breath, go out for a walk.

You will buy this game anyway.

EPIC is saving the japanese game industry by not making them waste their entire life on some stupid engine.

And we're seeing that that is starting to be a problem for western developers...

Although nothing on the level of Crystal Tools has happened yet.

What is stupid is this post. Saying that people that liked VII don't like this, and only those that didn't are now digging Remake. Also there is not correct stance on remaking a game.

That isn't wrong, though. If you liked turn based combat, then this game isn't for you. If you liked FF7 in its original form, this game isn't for you.

Cloud design is amazing.
Only thing is his hair should be longer/more concentrated on one side than equal on both like in this trailer.
But something about Cloud's face here is so good. Doesnt have that soft doll look of the new Dissidia and AC.

I really don't get why people are ditching hope on the game from either side of the fence all over the battle system. I mean the battle system for the original worked, but it wasn't by any means the meat of the experience despite it being where you spend most of your time. The best part of FF7's combat was the materia system which could still be in place. There were RTB JRPG's releasing alongside these games too and they had combat systems that were just fine too IMO so I can't see it being too much of an issue.

My point is, wasn't the main focus of the remake to be reliving that story in a perspective we could have never dreamed of back when it came out? Getting to see everything realized on a scale that makes the locations feel like more than a few handpicked renders? We're still getting to do that.

It does suck that turn based combat is rare these days but is it really worth throwing away any hope of the game over?

That isn't wrong, though. If you liked turn based combat, then this game isn't for you. If you liked FF7 in its original form, this game isn't for you.

FF7 is my favorite game of all time and I LOVE turn based combat. This game is still for me.

lol no, some of us aren't company shills.

That meter under the names is a combo meter that goes up when you hit enemies and goes down when you're not hitting any enemies. So you better get your thumb ready to mash that X button so you can pull off awesome combos :/

Well in FFVII all you had to do was push X so i guess they keeping things the same .

If you liked VII in it's original form, you can still be very excited about the game being realized in a new form. That shouldn't be hard to understand.

I see they have English voice acting already in the trailer segments.

I wonder if these are placeholders for the Western audience or are they working with VA alongside the games development for a planned simultaneous world wide release.

This has been development for nearly a year and half right?

Since at least six months prior to the FF7 for PS4 announcement at PSX last year right?

So they clearly have a focused design objective considering that most of the pieces they have including a basic combat mechanics seem to be already done.

It makes me wonder how truly far along they are. Also considering they aren't making an entirely new game from scratch and are simply using set pieces from the original game simply remade in modern presentation, I'll assume that makes the process that much quicker.

The combat looks like something out of Star Ocean being able to control Barret or Cloud as your currently controlled character, so that's something I don't an issue with. I just didn't want to it turn into Crisis Core the Console Game.

Good, I look forward to it.

It looks a lot like reuse of the FFXV engine and combat system.

Which means they might be really far along. We might see this a lot sooner than anybody thought.

I might actually live long enough to play this :D

Falk

that puzzling face
Barret's sunglasses look fucking stupid. The bottom channels of midgar are fucking dark. why is he wearing them in buildings and shit?

Look if you're a wanted terrorist and you're moseying in full-tilt to a government-owned infrastructure installation, wouldn't you want a disguise too? The shades help conceal his identity. SHINRA would be on a lookout with a giant man with a gun arm that WASN'T wearing shades.

The dialog in this trailer is it exactly the same as the original? I honestly don't remember

Definitely not. I'm glad to see a bit of the spirit of the characters carrying over, but Barrett always came off as a bit of a louder, Samuel L. Jackson type to me. He seems too stoic here.

Everyone who liked FF7 already confirmed for crazy people, i guess
what a stupid thing to say. people love the original for a reason, including the battle system.
If you actually read the rest of my post you see I actually follow up that sentence with reasons, so come back to me if you want to have a discussion otherwise there is none.
as usual, those fine with the changes didn't care for VII, which whatever, you do you - but don't act as if that's the correct stance on remaking a game that is beloved for what it was originally.
What a load, I played the original, I love it for what it brought, but I'm down for this and all the new and old that it will bring. Don't even try this "real fan" bullshit, when I've been arguing over the intricacies of the main character's design in his various entries in this very thread.

I will hold my opinion until I know more about the battle system but seeing as I hate Nomura's game I am not too hopeful, at the very least the music should be good

I don't think that liking the original game's battle system precludes you from also enjoying a different battle system though. Like, at all. I understand why it's possible for someone not to be a fan of the new battle system but it certainly doesn't mean that by liking the original you cannot like this.

Looks amazing. If they're putting so much detail into how the city and everything looks then it'll probably be a while until it's released or they'll cut some sections since the entire game realized like this would be huge. I hope they don't cut anything though haha.

Also, Cloud is way too skinny haha. Looks hilarious with that huge ass sword.
He has always looked scrawny, but it's more notorious now. Even his Smash 4 model looks a bit beefier.

Looking at this render makes me realise that FFVII Remake Cloud's hair was copied and pasted from Advent Children. Strange, if you ask me.

using Steve Burton and (what I assume will follow) the compilation casting is the rotten cherry on top. they're awful voice actors

If you liked VII in it's original form, you can still be very excited about the game being realized in a new form. That shouldn't be hard to understand.

Well yeah, you can be excited by this completely different game with the same story. But if you liked the original, then you might not be excited by this different game.

If you think the turn based combat of FF7 was fun, and not a flaw, then the new game isn't for you.

Definitely not. I'm glad to see a bit of the spirit of the characters carrying over, but Barrett always came off as a bit of a louder, Samuel L. Jackson type to me. He seems too stoic here.

I can see what you mean but nothing Barret said in the trailer was actually different than what Barret said in game.

FF7 diehards being pissed it's not turn based is puzzling. It's not like the original combat system was some amazing thing. You sit there and wait for a meter to fill and then you hit x. Then you sit there and wait while the enemy walks up to you and attacks. Scintillating combat.

Honestly, if you want the exact same game that looks better, get the PC version and use mods.

This is a remake. Things should change. Things should be updated.

Edit: Of course it's your opinion and you can hate it if you want to. You can not buy it if you don't want to. Just saying a fan of the franchise would be open to any new content.

That looks pretty much like the ideal as I imagined it.

New combat system? Well obviously.
