Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Chunk 1 (CyberConnect2, UE4) Trailer, "PS4 Console Debut"

See guys? Turn based games belong in the past with prerendered backgrounds!
Nothing wrong with liking turn based games, but people clamoring for the remake to be turn based when the original was nothing special seems odd. I'm not going to pretend that Square in this day and age can churn out an incredible high profile* turn based RPG because it's just not in their priorities. The extended games in the series have all been action based, Nomura makes action RPGs, Advent Children has a lot of action scenes. It makes sense that this remake which is not a remaster mind you, would be an action RPG.

I don't see they daring to cut anything from the game!

*final version is just midgard, instead of the robot-car-thing, you fight Sephiroth, avenge the good Shinra president and credits*

Not interested if the battle system is hack n slash like 15's.

I had guessed that it would be, but I really hoped that there be at least some element command-based strategy in there. I have so many button mashing action games. I don't need another one. Unfortunately, that seems to be the route they're going. We'll see though.

EDIT: Btw. I'm totally fine with a new battle system in the spirit of the original. I'm simply saying that I don't want an action based one in the style of FFXV.

It already doesn't because we can control more than one characters.

Isn't this still an ATB system? You have a health meter, magic meter, Limit meter. Then there's another meter under their names. And the menu on the left shows options for Attack and Defend.

It doesn't look like a pure real-time action system.

Yeah, this is what it looked like to me. Much more what I had imagined FFXV would be like compared to what it's turned into. ATB within a free roam arena, where you control multiple characters. More like FFXII but evolved forward with animation ques from KH.

That meter under the names is a combo meter that goes up when you hit enemies and goes down when you're not hitting any enemies. So you better get your thumb ready to mash that X button so you can pull off awesome combos :/

Are you serious? His new dissidia design is perfect and actually matches his character. This remake makes him look like his AC design.

Can you provide a link to how he looks in Dissidia? Because I never played it and when I search I get at least half a dozen different outfits ranging from horrible to alright.

I don't think the turn based battle system is what made FF7 special...not sure what the big deal is with it being action based.

Looks amazing. If they're putting so much detail into how the city and everything looks then it'll probably be a while until it's released or they'll cut some sections since the entire game realized like this would be huge. I hope they don't cut anything though haha.

Also, Cloud is way too skinny haha. Looks hilarious with that huge ass sword.

Seems like a kh x crisis core fusion if u ask me

I'm a little bit disappointed that it appears to be real time instead of turn based, as I would have preferred a modernized and rebalanced turn based system. But the fact that we see the player take control of Barret suggests that we'll still fight with a party and be able to control other party members, and that definitely helps ease the disappointment a bit.

Looks really great, altogether!

I wonder if the scene with Cloud jumping on top of the train is real-time or pre-rendered, because it looks fucking INSANE.

I would really like to be proven wrong, but I have about zero faith in 2015 Square Enix and the AAA video industry at large.

Teach me how to love again Nomura.

what a stupid thing to say. people love the original for a reason, including the battle system.

as usual, those fine with the changes didn't care for VII, which whatever, you do you - but don't act as if that's the correct stance on remaking a game that is beloved for what it was originally.

Pretty much. I love him for it.

He'll prove them all wrong.

You will be ashamed of your words and deeds.

If it is a combo meter and it's real-time combat, why are there menu options for attack and defend? In the midst of "mashing buttons" I have to access the menu when I want to defend? I don't think that's how it's going to work. If anything, it's like FFXIII's system, which was also ATB and had a stagger meter.

Just look up dissidia arcade.

Just think, out of the infinite parallel universes out there, one has to have FF9 be the most popular FF ever, and get a HD remake, and HD Zidane looks like Dissidia Arcade Zidane.

I'd love to read the GAF thread on that one

Just watch the trailer again, it's a combo meter. They give you menu options exactly for that reason, they're options should you choose to use them.

I like FF7 too, a lot actually.

But the turn based combat was nothing to write hom about.

Now materia was cool, and we should probably wait and see how the remake's materia system works before we throw Bitch Ball 2016.

That's not true at all. The new model looks nothing like the one in AC.
Pale, too realistic for his kind of design and scrawny.

Eh, close enough for me.

Don't even. Dissidia arcade only got Clouds design right while ruining Zidanes and Squalls. :(

What is stupid is this post. Saying that people that liked VII don't like this, and only those that didn't are now digging Remake. Also there is not correct stance on remaking a game.

Okay, I'm officially hyped for this.

If they have action combat/party mechanics similar to Type-0 I'd be completely okay with that. Really enjoyed how that worked as an ARPG. As long as it's more similar to that than the FFXV style, I'm good to go.

Nomura loves to ruin everything. He should not be in charge of directing.

It's a real shame.
Yeeeah, no. He's the exact opposite. He's a pretty awesome creative person who has some neat ideas himself but also likes to push people around him to do more, do better & bring forth their own ideas.
