Fan Favorite PS2 Games Launching on PS4 Tomorrow

It really is shoddy emulation that has the same problems as psx2. I assumed since sony themselves were handling it....sigh

Hmm... This is not what I wanted to hear. I too figured since Sony was doing it, that we would get some quality emulation. I haven't bit yet, but hearing these issues make me think I may wait a bit before buying any of these.

So are Rogue Galaxy and/or Dark Cloud worth getting at all? I feel like I always heard people were disappointed with Rogue Galaxy when it came out, and I never got around to playing it. All I know about Dark Cloud is that I remember people saying that the second one is awesome, and feels like a complete game where the first one didn't.

Just posted up my Twisted Metal: Black quicklook

Popped in Twisted Metal Black disc a few months ago (launch model PS3) and It kind of lost some oomph over the years...

This does look surprisingly sharp...this didn't run at 60fps on PS2, right? I feel like this game did not always look that good, but damn, it looks real nice from this.

Yep it was 60fps on PS2.

Thinking of picking up Dark Cloud and GTA: Vice City (my favourite GTA) tomorrow.

But I'm busy with FF7 and still need to play/focus on Xenoblade X and Trails in the Sky: SC. So much to do...

It looked good at the time but it was not as clear as it is now. They did a pretty damn good job on the port. Just got done unlocking Minion myself lol. Still one of my favorite games in the series without a doubt. Playing it really makes me wish Sony would give the franchise the respect it deserves. I'd kill to have a collection of every Twisted metal in one package on PS4.

Imagine it. Every Twisted Metal at your fingertips. Sadly that will never happen. :(

I'll agree there but only in gameplay. Twisted Metal PS3 just nailed the gameplay amazingly. I'd say gamplay wise PS3 took the top spot away from 2 in my book. If they had gotten the servers right at launch I think that game would have been huge. Sadly they never did completely fix them. Now singleplayer wise I'd rank it probably 2nd behind Twisted Metal 2 story wise. I just love each character having their own care and their own wish.

It seems like some people, me included, have some serious issues with Rogue Galaxy. It's an unplayable mess. Why the discrepancy between what should be the same game for everyone? I've tried both the European and the American versions and they both have the same horrible framerate.

Also bought Dark Cloud and the EU-version has the distinctive stutter of a game that has been improperly converted from 50 to 60hz. Or maybe I should say not converted at all.

Today has been a dissapointment.

They can fuck off with this. Make all PS2 Classics playable/cross buy on PS4. I can't believe how badly MS ate Sony's lunch on this whole BC thing and they are emulating 1 gen back not 2. I would actually buy quite a few PS1/PS2 Classics right now and for years to come but I will buy ZERO of these games at $15 a pop. No chance. I hope nobody buys this shit. Send these jokers a clear message.

I will just play whatever PS2 games I still have on disc on an emulator and the rest of the catalogue is lost to me. This could have been so good but it just turns into another bitchfest. They take possibly good press and turn it into a lump of coal with this cash grab.

Yup. I'm hesitant at best now. I doubt I'll pick these games up at the increased cost and without the hope that they'll transfer to the next console. It wasn't hard to drop money on a PSX game because I've felt that given Sony's policy since creating the PS Classics that they'd be a solid investment and playable for years and years to come. That's gone.

There with you. Vote with wallets

Even if I bought it sounds slightly dissappointing. But a lot of us was telling people it's just emulation with little work.

Price hike simply isn't justified

Like, I was expecting something Ape Escape, Sly Raccoon or Ratchet and Clank.
Ape Escape 2 got trademarked so it's safe to assume it'll be coming in the near future. Was actually pretty suprised it wasn't in the launch lineup.

Sorry to hear that, but thankyou for confirming my suspicions that because it was a 50hz only game in the PAL region it wouldn't workout well converted or comeout right, guess i'll go the US store for Dark Cloud to get the superior US version.

They have a product for people who can't play PS3 games on their new console, it's called Playstation Now.

Anyone else notice that it only goes up to two players? This only matters for Twisted Metal so far, but no 3 or 4 player local multi with this emulator. They didn't even bother to emulate the multitap. Garbage.

I can't believe we didn't get any PS1 announcement. And judging from the way they handled PS2, I'm sure my huge PS1 Classics library will be useless on PS4. Goddamnit Sony.

i bought vice city on the ipad and got a bunch of 80's songs from itunes to go with the custom soundtrack feature. Better than nothing.
maybe that is possible to fix on the PS4 with Spotify?

Same here. I thought they would make all these widescreen, specially since they were up rendering them to 1080p, I just assumed they would be widescreen. I had to zoom the picture to make it fit.

Probably won't be buying anymore. The framerate of rogue galaxy is pretty shoddy, really stuttery. The visual improvement isn't that striking to me.

its a PS2 game running in an emulator wrapper, not a remake.

I own SA and VC on PS3, Sucks I cant just download the PS4 versions. Oh well, the PS2 selection was pretty bad on PS3 especially in the UK and the implementation left much to be desired considering it would lock you out of ingame XMB.

if this means we will get a lot more support to move PS2 games over to PS4 then I'm fine with it. Just let me buy snip Outrun C2C, snip

lol, in you dreams. If you did not buy the PS3 version when it was available you're fucked.

Disagree about gameplay. Black is the pinnacle for me. After playing the PS3 iteration I went back to Black and it was like returning home. It felt right and I was immediately better than I was in the PS3 version.

It's really cool to see PS2 classics come to PS4. But they have got to be batshit insane if they think i'm gonna fork over the amounts they are asking for games which I ALREADY have in my possession.

I'll just stick to using my PS2 thank you very much.

Wish they could bring metal gear solid 2 and 3 to backwards compatibility but then again the Dualshock 4 doesn't have pressure sensitive buttons so it would kind of suck.

I see lots of people complaining about frame rate issued with Rogue Galaxy. I haven't experienced any problems at all. Seems completely smooth. Put in about 3 hours so far.

The issue might be NA vs EU versions.

Well that's dumb. You'd figure the EU version would be easier to emulate since it'd be 10fps slower (50vs60). I guess buying the us version wouldn't help either given the frame rate standard for PAL TVs causing issues? I don't know enough about the way PAL formats handle higher frame rates to say for sure.

There is no such thing as PAL/NTSC with PS4 since its all over HDMI at 60hz. The issue would come if they haven't converted the 50hz only PAL game to run at 60hz. That would cause performance issues.

It's why I am asking if anyone has tried a US game on a UK PS4, to see if they are region locked.

So then why would the EU version of the game run worse than the US version then? Like I said I've been playing Rogue Galaxy for hours and it's been completely smooth for me but there be been a lot if people saying the frame rate drops. Someone else clarified it was something tondo with the EU version vs the US version.

Because it's 50hz only so it's not running natively at 60hz. Wii U has the same issue with 50hz only Wii games.

Anyone tried US versions on UK PS4 yet? I hope there is no region locking on these titles.

No there's no region locking. Seems a lot of UK gaffers in here bought the US versions because of fears about possibly subpar frame rate in the EU release.

But wouldn't that mean I should be having issues with my US version then? Seems odd that I'm experiencing none of the problems that people are talking about here thus far.

Edit: oh ok o see what you mean. The EU version was based off the 50hz release of the game so it's causing problems at 60hz

Definitely not region locked.

Has there been confirmation that EU gets the original PAL version vs NTSC for the US? I know box art on the story and the included manual certainly suggests this is the case...

Someone said that Dark Cloud doesn't run particularly well compared to the US version. Dark Cloud was a 50hz only game on PAL PS2.

I guess Digital Foundry will answer these questions for us over the next few days.
