Fan Favorite PS2 Games Launching on PS4 Tomorrow

Illness is the doctor to whom we pay most heed; to kindness, to knowledge, we make promise only; pain we obey.
These games didn't have a developer creating them.

Adding trophies should brake how many people? A competent person can do it.

I'll stop you right there. You already answered your own question. These games spawned from the ether. They didn't have any developers, you said so yourself. So they should be given away for free. There's also noone uploading them to the store or QAing them. There's noone marketing them. There's noone seeking out publishers in order to get their games released aswell. There's noone at those publishers who have to work in order for their games to be released. Yes, we've solved the mystery. These games are free to make and distribute and requires no effort to function on the PS4 as they were build with futureproof coding back in their day.

Serious question: how many copies sold at $10 do you think it'd take to actually make a profit from a game? 100? 1000? 10000? At what point at $10 do you consider that publishers like EA and Activision are seriously considering putting in the work required to get these games released? After you're done answering that also think about they'd have to sell twice that amount at $5 in order to make the same kind of money.

I'm playing the U.S. Rogue Galaxy and it's not unplayable but pretty rough. Feel bad for you EU guys if that version is worse. It's been forever since I've played the PS2 version of it so I'm not sure how it runs compared to that. I may hook up my 60 gob PS3 later to see how it does there.

This just kind of feels like Sony really half assing it and hoping people will shut up about BC. I ultimately only paid about $5 for Rogue Galaxy so I guess I can't complain that much, but I wish they would have put more effort in this.

Gah, thanks for the info. Will check some gameplay videos when I get home and try to decide if it's worth the somewhat shitty performance.

This is a bit silly. We don't have to add up every person. It's not comparable every game goes through the same process.(indie, retail, etc) All games get added by people to the severs etc, your doing a lot of stretching here. So when we talk prices of cod and how much it costs to make we should include Sony's and microsoft store tech guys.

We know it isn't free to put rhese games on the ps4 obviously but it also isn't some super expensive ordeal either. Especially with what Sony has done.

You don't see people complaining too much about remasters unless the three year old game is running worse than the pc version.

The length some of you go to back Sony on this issue is near absurd.

No one said free. We said 10 dollars is suitable

But yes imo even cheaper and a bigger selection coups spawn higher sales and more profit for them.

You simply don't know what your talking about. You guys still don't know how emulators work and your saying in untrue things to fit agendas. What are you talking about..... Free? Why are you saying free

We only said cross buy.

Hey that's all good. To each their own. For me it was to much jousting awhile the PS3 version had a little less of that feeling. Now I'll admit PS3 needed the vehicles specials to feel more special like the older games and 1 character to each vehicle but other then that I loved it. That's the beauty of the franchise. Each game feels a bit different. More so with the 2 that weren't made by Jaffe and co but hell I still love those 2 games also. I'm probably the only person on the planet that does too. LMAO

I never played 3, but I thought 4 was really cool. Some sweet levels, and I appreciated that they actually introduced a bunch of new vehicles. Some of the standard weapon pickups (that never made it to any other entries) were cool too, like the M.I.R.V. or the rain missiles, or the auto lob.

I hope it ends up getting some kinda emulation though, 'cause it ran like trash.

So does multiplayer work on these games?

Twisted Metal Black in particular... For $15 I'm assuming multiplayer works as that was a major selling feature of the game when it released.

The standard game never had built-in online, if that's what you're asking. That was a separate disc. Split screen works though, and you can use shareplay to invite someone over.

From their blog:

"We will be working tirelessly to bring you your favorite PS2 games with new releases on a regular basis, and we hope you love playing PS2 games on PS4 as much as we did making them! So tell us, what PS2 games do you want to play on your PS4?"

Ah, regular! That's... useful...

So we're thinking once a year?

Ah, good catch. Completely forgot about that TMB:Online disc.

All I want to know is... Is there still hope for a remastered SOCOM 2 with full online multiplayer?

It has to be the easiest business decision in the history of business decisions for Sony. Like... easier than deciding they should make a PlayStation 2. SOCOM 2 on PS4 will sell gangbusters.

So there really is no cross-buy. That's disappointing. I miss some of my PS2 classics. I shouldn't have sold my PS3.

Our lovely pal Wario64 was at the PSX event and shared some more info on his twitter:

He also says he has no info on when we'll see Dark Cloud 2. :(

PSP emulation was probably already leaked by Neil Druckmann.
I wonder why no PSone though, it should be the easiest. Maybe they think the games are too old and there is no market for them anymore?
Psone emulation was included in the recent survey though and until now all the things written in that list are being implemented.

Parappa 2, Fantavision and KOF2000 are coming soon.

I picked up Grand Theft Auto San Andreas for PS4. It runs in widescreen with some visual improvements and trophy support now.

San Andreas tops GTA V IMO for best Grand Theft Auto game in the series. I thought GTA4 and Vice City were mediocre.

It's the same as everything else we are talking. Mostly speculation, so it isn't an easy thing totally unless a developer wants to.stop in to clarify

I think as far as how much work Sony put in to get games to work will be released and revealed soon enough with digital foundry though. So when that thread pops up get ready

I'd say the amount of people they have pissed off going to 15 dollars for what seems to be minimum emulation, as well as no cross buy. They probably lost more profits on good will and bad word of mouth imo

Since there is no way to really say how many copies soldt. It's just guess work and no one can answer.

I can say I wont buy many at these prices though.

"We" and "You" is what this boils down to... really? I want a vibrant market place where people can make the right economic desicion for their product. At their current price point they can offer 50% and 75% sales over the coming years in order to find the biggest possible audience without devaluing the work before they settle in at a permanent 50% price cut. Making as much money as possible from the product. The price is fine. I believe they've studied this in far greater detail than you and me. Wouldn't you agree?

And what game isn't available for cross buy? The Grand Theft Autos? If you were in charge of a game series that continues to out-sell next-gen original titles with a remaster would you seriously opt out of a chance to make millions? This decision is up to the publishers. I doubt Sony and other publishers would opt out of cross buy. I don't think you realise that this is a business and that every aspect of it has to fund itself in order to be viable. Just QAing Rogue Galaxy probably took two or three weeks worth of testing for two or three persons.

Emulators have developers that have to be paid. They work with some code right out of the box, other software needs tweeking that requires developers and other software don't work at all that requires serious commitment to get working (also from developers). Emulators are like metaphors: great in the making a point but faulty as it's not a true replica.

Im going to go ahead and say games like mgs2/3 and gran turismo 4 will never be available because I doubt they can run properly on ps4.

my comp cant even emulate those games worth a damn lol

Look man, all I want are good prices and a lot of games so I can buy hundreds of them. I want them to play and look great on an HDTV so I dont need to go to a ps2 and crt screen. And it would be great if Sony can honor my ps2 digital purchases.

If they can't don't and get sales from me and many others then saving money and playing my old games that I own is fine.

I'm just hoping these things can change and ok I'll buy games for the 3rd or 4th time.

Keep in mind Sony's emulator isn't even top of the line.

I would legit pay 150$ for a sequel on kickstarter, Jaffe!

You and me both. Just floors me a sequel was never made.

Twisted Metal does have multiplayer but remember this isn't Twisted Metal Black Online. So no online play. Best way to think of these is pretty much straight ports. What you found in the original you find in this release but just prettier looking. Game runs great though and is still fun as hell to play. Oh there is one work around. You can share play though so you can technically play it online by share playing with someone in a party with you. It will however be like playing on a couch. This I've heard anyway. Hopefully about to test it out and see for myself to confirm.

You should. I think you'd like 3. The wishes still get twisted but they're not as dark as those made by David. I loved them though cause they were fun to play and some of the levels in them were pretty cool I thought. But yea there is a large part of the community that completely denies their existence and that's their right. I'm not gonna fault them at all.

I think this is your only motivation in this. You're not interested in the people making the games you just want them to cater to you at a cost to themselves. At least you're honest.

Can't have been that hard then. Whatever, DECEMBER 15TH!

They should've skipped Dark Cloud 1 and gone straight to 2.

Either way, I'll wait for a half off sale. $15 is too much for nothing but added trophies.

Way too pricy. I'll probably buy Vice City when the price will drop to a few Euros. It'll be a pleasure to replay it again and to get trophies while doing that.

Edit: Nvm, just read about the deleted songs. No buy.

I'd argue that pricing it at $60 would be stupid because there's no market for it but why should they feel obliged to give them away for free or for less then they're worth?

No one is saying they should give them away to everyone for free. However, they should honor cross-buy for customers that bought them on PS3 in the past, because:

1. That's how Nintendo currently operates.
2. That's how Microsoft currently operates.
3. That's how Sony operates with PS1 downloadables on PS3/PSP/PS Vita, and with PSP downloadables on PSP/PS Vita.

What's going to happen when (and if) Sony releases PS1 games for PS4? Are customers who bought the games previously going to be forced to repurchase their games all over again if they want to play them on PS4? Are they going to open the gates for the entire online PS1 library, or are they going to trickle out a small number of games little by little at (sometimes) increased prices?

Apart from the Grand Theft Autos: is there any game that isn't cross-buy? (I'm guessing the music licensing is another can of worms so they might not even allow that kind of deal.) Have Sony said anything on the subject?

Dark Cloud and Rogue Galaxy are not on the PS3. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas used to be, but it seems to have been yanked down now.

The other five games (Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, The Mark of Kri, Twisted Metal: Black, and War of the Monsters) are all currently available on the PS3 for $9.99. For reasons unknown, three of those five games increased their price to $14.99 on PS4, while the other two remain at the same $9.99 price.

As far as licensing is concerned, this isn't much of a problem for the competition. Microsoft is willing and able to work out licensing details with publishers when it comes to getting a large number of Xbox 360 downloadable games validated for Xbox One. I don't know what business acumen or black magic Microsoft uses to achieve those results, but the bottom line here is that they are achieving results, and Sony needs to replicate that process for PS4 customers.

Searched. Found the GTAs and Twisted Metal. The rest seem absent. At least from the Swedish store. I'd rather attribute to stupidity than malice, though. Rights, other publishers and the like. Perhaps I'm naïve.

Guys, if you love JRPGs, you have to play Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits. It so damn good. One of my favourite PS2 JRPGs.

Getting War of the Monsters. Game brings back so many memories. Hope the Japan store gets some new games that weren't released here. Would buy the crap out of them.

Also, no word on ps1 emulation at psx. :(

hit and miss. GTA and Vice City are much better. GTA 3 is apparently rough. Dark Cloud and Rogue Galaxy are about the same
Ahh that's a shame about gta3. Very little chances it gets patched, correct?

I want dragonball z budokai 3 next, loving rogue galaxy so far.
I'd love to see Budokai, and Tenkaichi series on ps4. But I remember reading about the psp games getting removed from psn due to the dragon ball license switching hands. It's going to be hard. I regret not getting them. Now I have to settle for Battle of z on the vita. :(

With your logic we should have to pay for upgrades and patches, too, since people worked on them.
