Fan Favorite PS2 Games Launching on PS4 Tomorrow

Definitely not region locked.

Has there been confirmation that EU gets the original PAL version vs NTSC for the US? I know box art on the story and the included manual certainly suggests this is the case...

There're been a lot of frame rate complaints with the EU version that the US version doesn't seem to have. The expected cause is that the EU version is the PAL 50hz release being emulated at 60hz thus causing hitches in frame rate. I don't think it's been officially confirmed that this is the case yet though. It's just the explanation that seems to make the most sense.

Thanks - pretty disappointing if this is the case and we still need to check whether the game had a decent PAL port before buying, or buy from the US store.

Only played the EU GTA3 so far and it seems to play pretty well. I can't remember if the GTAs were PAL optimised.

They were, because they were developed in the UK. Same with Codemasters games (if they appear). I worked on the PS2 Colin McRae Rally games and they were 50hz only, but full screen/speed.

What if the crash thing is just for ps1 titles and they pull all the same stops and crap?

I mean, no cross buy. Ps1 games that are all 9.99

Now there may still be a new Crash game but even if there is or isn't it would be likely with the way it says on ps3 that they would want to sell them on Ps4.

Here is my guess from what Sony has been doing.

1. They workes a deal with Activision to make crash and the 4 ps1 games 4 of the 15 first ps1 games on ps4.

2. At 9.99 or hell maybe even 15 dollars ( oh trophies and share play) and more than likely taking in a nice bir of money. it makes sense for Activision to also work out a deal on a new Crash game with Sony.

*******Now, let's remember one thing. These third party publishers were the ones foamimg at the mouth for no used games.

3. Sony plans to show publishers ways that make money, but this doesn't benefit all publishers up front. Just like Rockstar are the big winners for the most part on current ps2 selections. The selection is small but a ton of people will grab gta. Also the same can be said for square. Getting the lucrative deal is the 20 dollars port is another enticing way to get ff7 remake First.

4. If you look over the details carefully you see where gamers are losing out more than anyone. Sure, Sony and the direct publishers that are part of the deals don't lose but we and many companies lose out.

Imo this is Sony's cycle. Having a large user base can give you these options and lucrative e persuasion

In the end, it's not beneficial for us honestly.

Have they said anything on the frequency of releasing new titles? Like, are we looking at a monthly or weekly release for new titles? There are hundreds of titles I want.

Also, since I'm in EU and apparently the PAL versions run like crap, how do I download the US versions instead? American PSN account, or?

Thanks :)

Regardless I would wait for a sale, those prices are horrendous.

Couldn't resist and bought Vice City. It runs great, the up-res works well. Are there any emulator options, as there used to be on the PS3's PS2 emulator? PS buttons just seems to bring up the usual menu.

I have zero intention of ever buying from my own store. Straight to the US PSN every time for everything from the PS2 backwards; I've got no time for 50Hz in 2015. I'm just glad Sony gives you the option to create a US PSN account and buy without too much trouble; with Nintendo's Virtual Console you just have to hope they randomly decide to put out a 60Hz version, and if not you just never get to buy the game.

Anyone have issues with The Mark of Kri? I get stutter or pause issues during gameplay. I dont remember that in the original game lol

What version of the game did you buy? EU or US? Seems to be done issues with the EU/UK versions of certain titles.

They should update their emulator to have a specific "stretch to fit wide screen" option.

They can fuck off with this. Make all PS2 Classics playable/cross buy on PS4. I can't believe how badly MS ate Sony's lunch on this whole BC thing and they are emulating 1 gen back not 2. I would actually buy quite a few PS1/PS2 Classics right now and for years to come but I will buy ZERO of these games at $15 a pop. No chance. I hope nobody buys this shit. Send these jokers a clear message.

I will just play whatever PS2 games I still have on disc on an emulator and the rest of the catalogue is lost to me. This could have been so good but it just turns into another bitchfest. They take possibly good press and turn it into a lump of coal with this cash grab.

I'm with you on this. If they had made PS2 classics cross-buy between PS3 & PS4, then I'd be happy to buy some. Now I refuse to buy any.

When Microsoft brought Xbox 360 games to Xbox One a few months ago, they boasted "we don't make you pay again to play your old games". It wasn't a true statement about Sony at the time (rather, it was a dig at the PS Now rental program), but Sony foolishly made it true.

I can't believe we didn't get any PS1 announcement. And judging from the way they handled PS2, I'm sure my huge PS1 Classics library will be useless on PS4. Goddamnit Sony.

That's what I'm afraid of, also. If they can pull this stunt with PS2 classics on PS4, then what's to say they won't do the same with PS1 classics on PS4?

Sony took a lot of the goodwill and consumer confidence that they've built up over the last few years, and flushed it down the toilet.

This is unfortunately not true in Rogue Galaxy's case. I've bought both the EU and US versions and they both perform horribly. It doesn't have anything to do with the refresh rate, it's just really shoddy emulation. It's weird that not everyone seem to have the problem.

A quick seatch on youtube gave me at least two let's plays with the same performance hiccups.

I'm in the US so the US version... I hope lol.

I should also clarify that it usually happens during battles.

Hmm. Well I own the game as well but I've been obsessively playing Rogue Galaxy so I can't speak to the framerate stability of Mark of Kri. Sorry man. Maybe try doing a database rebuild?

Weird the only frame skips I've had are when entering or exiting the menus. I've been twitch streaming every time I've played the game. I wonder if it reduces the rendering resolution to fit the smaller window whilst streaming. That might explain why the framerate seems so solid for me.

Disagree about gameplay. Black is the pinnacle for me. After playing the PS3 iteration I went back to Black and it was like returning home. It felt right and I was immediately better than I was in the PS3 version.

Hey that's all good. To each their own. For me it was to much jousting awhile the PS3 version had a little less of that feeling. Now I'll admit PS3 needed the vehicles specials to feel more special like the older games and 1 character to each vehicle but other then that I loved it. That's the beauty of the franchise. Each game feels a bit different. More so with the 2 that weren't made by Jaffe and co but hell I still love those 2 games also. I'm probably the only person on the planet that does too. LMAO

To those that have bought games. How is the framerate/visuals compared to the original release?

hit and miss. GTA and Vice City are much better. GTA 3 is apparently rough. Dark Cloud and Rogue Galaxy are about the same

Is the performance really that bad on Dark Cloud and Rogue Galaxy? And do we know for sure that the EU version is more troublesome? :(

And this is what I'm getting, it stutters, mostly when panning the camera around, or the screen pans. And in battles it gets iffy.

Having so much fun with rogue galaxy and ffvii lol been switching back anf forth all morning. Hoping people get over the situation soon would love to see what first timers think of some games

so were these games all ps2 classics on the psn store for ps3 before?

or are they just randomly selecting "fan favorites"

also anywhere we can request games or suggestions to sony...not that they would listen anyway.

Illness is the doctor to whom we pay most heed; to kindness, to knowledge, we make promise only; pain we obey.
But they added trophies!! That alone makes the high price worth it!(sarcasm)

Are these games expensive? It's less than an hours work for most people? Aren't the people who made this worth any money? Rogue Galaxy is a pretty big game, from my understanding, what makes it less worthy of money? I'd argue that pricing it at $60 would be stupid because there's no market for it but why should they feel obliged to give them away for free or for less then they're worth? By releasing them at this price point they maintain a good value and makes it possible to offer good discounts in the long run helping the exposure of these games. By making money and attracting a bigger audience without devaluing the work, it helps games like this getting released.

I picked your post mainly because it was the latest in a long, tired rant of gamers wanting something for cheap. This mentality needs to stop. If they had released them for $5 they'd make far less money and would devalue the work to the degree that other publishers wouldn't want to invest in the market.

Long story short: they're worth the asking price. They're worth more. And we as gamers benefit from this price-point in the long run.

I think they are trying to give time for the backlash to die down and then they will add in more

Exactly! I'll just echo what I said many pages ago:

IDK, I'd rather pay $15 for a game that can last me 100 hours and was a "full game" at release than a digital/indie game for the same price that won't have the same value. Looking at you Everybody's Gone to the Rapture.

Although, there are $15 games that I have played for long amounts of time or am still playing. What I'm trying to say is that $15 isn't as absurd of a price to me as it is to others.

Our lovely pal Wario64 was at the PSX event and shared some more info on his twitter:

Some things overheard at PSX yesterday:
Parappa 2 coming Dec 15th to PS4
PSP emulation may be in the works of some sort? Not much for PSone

Also, first PS2 emulated titles were the first licenses they could get their hands on, seemed like a lucky selection

Expect PS2 emulated library to increase in coming months

He also says he has no info on when we'll see Dark Cloud 2. :(

It didn't cost them. These games didn't have a developer creating them.

There isn't a reason for them to be fifty percent higher.

You have an emulator doing all it takes is throwing the game at it to get it working. Adding trophies should brake how many people? A competent person can do it.

Hell, look how big the teams are for these games on Kickstartwr. Some of them are one guy making the whole game.

These games have no art work, modeling etc to be done

There are many reasons to be unamused .

If Sony was going in game code , changing fonts, changing game code and mixing cameras to add true wide-screen support or redoing all textures to make them true hd then ok, the price is nice. None of this is happening i feel people didn't get it before but atleast people who played them started to get it.

Damn!! Need that now!! Id drop ffvii and rogue in a heartbeat to play dark cloud 2 first

I think they just got the license for DC2 when we first got the leak about this. If there's a new batch released the 15:th hopefully DC2 will be included. At least that's my giant hope! :)

I'm playing the U.S. Rogue Galaxy and it's not unplayable but pretty rough. Feel bad for you EU guys if that version is worse. It's been forever since I've played the PS2 version of it so I'm not sure how it runs compared to that. I may hook up my 60 gob PS3 later to see how it does there.

This just kind of feels like Sony really half assing it and hoping people will shut up about BC. I ultimately only paid about $5 for Rogue Galaxy so I guess I can't complain that much, but I wish they would have put more effort in this.
