Lightning Returns: FINAL FANTASY XIII (Steam) releases December 10th, supports 60 FPS

Oh well. We'll have to wait and see then. Would be great to preload it in advance if possible.

They only allowed preload for XIII. XIII-2 and Type-0 had no preloading.

The game will probably only be available after the Steam Store updates on Dec. 10th. I doubt we'll be able to preorder the game 24h before the release.

So, they basically just inject reshade/sweetfx effects from PS3 for the PC version?
The only difference I see is the color tone and sharpness.

Even the filenames are 'on' and 'off'.

Maaaybe I'll give this a try? I hated Final Fantasy XIII, but was utterly shocked at how good Final Fantasy XIII-2 is. Never got around to finishing the trilogy off though.

Will purchase and then never play until Lightning's big ass head gets modded. I hope I will enjoy it because while XIII was nice the second game was boring as balls.

I kind of want to try this but the port quality of the previous two has me worried. Plus this is apparently capped at 1080p when I have a 1440p monitor.

There's no way in hell I'm getting this until I get multiple reports of it being a good port.

Is it just me or are the screen shots are bit surprising? It looks better than I remember!

But that could be just be because the screens focused on Lightning and Lumina.IIRC the character models have always looked good.

I just can't wait to start taking some 4k screens of the game and cutscenes.

I kind of want to play this game for the gameplay. But I can't bring myself to dredge through XIII.

Skip the cutscenes. Play for the gameplay, it's the best part of the XIII series. And maybe music, I know a lot of people are fans but I can't remember any tracks from XIII-3.

The gameplay was actually good enough to get me through this game. It wasn't hard or anything, but fun enough and the worlds were nice. Couldn't tell you a thing about the story though.

that puzzling face
Wait what? What's wrong with her head? Is this known?

Apparently Lightning's head is a little too large for her frame.

And on the flipside apparently Bayonetta's head is a little too small for her frame

IDK I'M JUST TRYING TO HELP, OK?

I think it is 24 hours for OTs, but I don't think anyone is going to hold it against you if you are a few hours off.

To anyone playing the game: Skip every cutscene, including NPC/quest-giver chatter, aside from the opening and stuff from the final location and onwards. You won't be missing out on anything.

Well to be fair Lighting is supposed to be human right? Bayonetta is a giraffe who took pole dancing lessons. Giraffe heads are small compared to their frame.

Obligatory reminder: This game has the better and most challenging final boss of the history of the saga. I'm not joking

How much better will the PC version be? Haven't played the game on PS3 in a long while. I remember it wasn't quite as nice as 13 and 13-2. Didn't see a need to buy the PC versions of those two, but I may need to upgrade to PC for LR.

Now that I think about that... you are right lol. Except for maybe the stuff about Hope but that was tutorial too.. maybe a cutscene here and there for a bit more context but you won't lose any main stuff o_o

Alright gang the OT is almost done. When can I launch this thing, the day the game comes out?

Technically the rule is the day of release, but it's not strictly enforced and so many OTs have gone up a day earlier (e.g. R6 Siege released on the 1st but the OT went up on November 30th). As long as it's the 9th somewhere, which it well and truly is, you're fine.

Yeah unfortunately the story and pacing in LR are gutter trash. I wish they handled the sequels differently, and at least made them faithful to the original somewhat. Not into below-fanfiction-tier stuff.

We won't really know until tomorrow.
It could be a port like the ones for XIII and XIII-2, which can be made to look really good while having issues impacting the experience for everyone except Thoraxes (I'm jealous of you man).
Or it could be a better port, which would make it both a better looking (just because of the options, filtering, rendering resolution etc) and a better performing game.

don't you mean the 10th?

Jase was talking about how some OTs have gone up the day before release and that's why he talked about it being the 9th already somewhere, so if you put it up today it shouldn't create too many problems, hopefully.

I see. I still need to finish up some things, so I'll put it up later today. Thanks all for the responses.

Even with the issues 13 and 13-2 are better looking and preforming than their console counterparts.

This looks pretty good.

That image definitely makes a good impression.

Now image that quality without the minor imperfections too! Gonna be so amazing for me.

And coupled with hopefully improved performance from the PS3/360 versions, oh man.

Edit: wait what, 1080p only? Could it be that Gamespot didn't test on a 4k monitor or had a feature enabled to go above and beyond that, thus they didn't see the options?

It'd be weird to (eventually in the case of XIII) have native support for XIII and XIII-2 but not LR in that regard. There are ways around this stuff thankfully.

Edit edit: Oh I see the scaling of display area option in the article. This may be like how EA's FB games handle internal res with an options slider. Also rendering resolution.

I really wanted these games to work but for whatever reason they barely ran for me.

XIII-2 runs at a locked 20-25fps with an AMD FX8350@4.8ghz with an Nvidia 980ti no matter what graphical options I choose.

I have 4 hours played in the game trying to fix it with all sorts of tweaks and suggestions with a total of about 2 minutes actual game time.

There's a modded exe you can download that drastically improved the fps for me. Can't remember where I got it tho.

Either way, I'm hyped for the return of the goddess

I'll take a look at that when I get home, cheers! :D

Hopefully it can improve my experience with it.

Is this game on a different engine than XIII and XIII-2?

Nope.

Is this going to be 20 bucks?

19.99$ or 13.99€ with probably a 10% discount on Steam for one week after launch and a 20% discount on GMG.

That sounds amazing.
Does it work in FFXIII? Or is there a version of that for FFXIII?
No. There's no modded exe for FFXIII because XIII's performance is much better than XIII-2.

The modded exe tries to remove the framepacing and some people say the game runs much better with it but it also may cause some bugs like bad lipsync and so on.

Someone has made a small software to edit your game's executable and remove the framepacing, you can find it here.

Nice, thanks!
Downloaded it for future use. I hope we won't have to use this kind of stuff for LR.

Weirdly enough, this is the one game in the "series" that I'm actually interested in. Big dead rising fan here, who also loved majora's mask. The idea of an rpg doing the timed world thing while not taking itself too seriously really tickles my fancy in a way that the other two games and their boring se affair and schlock just doesn't.
