Lightning Returns: FINAL FANTASY XIII (Steam) releases December 10th, supports 60 FPS

Those guitar sounds really ruin it for me in the entire XIII series I don't know why. Maybe it's because they are over bearing whereas in other FF they weren't used as much, couple here and there, maybe more so in X

This was the first 'series' (XIII-LR) where we got a lot of non-hardware based music for once (actual recordings by live musicians). I'd expect more of the same in any of the games going forward, especially in the battle themes.

It's a good thing too, because the battle theme in XIII was fucking amazing.

Obligatory reminder: This game has the better and most challenging final boss of the history of the saga. I'm not joking

Actually this is why I want to replay the game on PC. When I did my original run on X360 I never got around doing everything on Hard, and the + version of the final boss just sounds awesome.

The final boss probably also has one of the coolest designs in the entire saga.

I like the risks XIII-2 took with its soundtrack. Generally lyrics in BGM aren't a good idea since they can mess with clarity of voiceover work, but XIII-2's soundtrack wouldn't be nearly as good without all the lyrics in there.

(Too bad Invisible Invaders got gutted in the EN release for w/e reason)

So... Hopping in late, I haven't really been paying too much attention to this release. I played the game back when it came out on Xbox 360, loved it and 1000/1000'ed the achievements. Huge fan of Lightning and the FF13 series.

Any notable enhancements or additions for the PC release that I would want to be aware of?

I find Invisible Invaders rap sung poorly and with no energy at all.
I dont have any problem with the instrumental version, it's cool anyways.

I agree. I loved New Bodhum, Ruined Hometown and Starting Over (I think that was the name of it). Three of my favorite tracks from last gen.

Listening to the OST at work right now actually.

The plot is ass in this game but the gameplay is superb. Par for the course of the entire XIII series, really. Everyone buy it.

Soundtrack is great, too.

On the plot, I actually greatly prefer the tone of LR to XIII-1. XIII-1 takes itself super seriously all the time, bar brief moments of forced humor. LR has a sort of comic book attitude towards itself. As in, the world is getting destroyed, and Lightning has to go save it, but she's going to do it in the most flashy and badass way possible without actually acknowledging how ridiculous the whole thing is. It definitely takes itself less seriously than XIII-1, and I think the whole thing is better off for it.

I still think that the plot can be accurately described as a trainwreck, but it's a damn fun trainwreck if that makes sense!

Does it release at midnight anywhere?

I mean, technically it HAS to be midnight somewhere around the world at any given point of time, right?

(in before game releases at something like 7:43 or something like that to prove Falk wrong)

Steam store updates at 6PM GMT.

I haven't played Lightning Returns, but I think I'll purchase this once my final exams are out of the way. The gameplay looks really fun.

Nope.

19.99$ or 13.99€ with probably a 10% discount on Steam for one week after launch and a 20% discount on GMG.

No. There's no modded exe for FFXIII because XIII's performance is much better than XIII-2.

The modded exe tries to remove the framepacing and some people say the game runs much better with it but it also may cause some bugs like bad lipsync and so on.

Someone has made a small software to edit your game's executable and remove the framepacing, you can find it here.

This is actually what I was thinking of, it worked wonders for me. I didn't really enjoy XIII-2 tho. After how amazing XIII looked I found 2 looked a little too low budget, and I didn't like how they removed THE GODDESS entirely. Played about 12 hours of it and canned it. I wish SE would hurry the fuck up and let me throw my money at them for this
