Oh SCREW IT.

All of ya have got me too damn hype. I did my OT run last week but it's been 18 years since I watched the original versions. I'll check out Despecialized tonight.

I'm actually starting my OT marathon tonight too, and doing it the same way you are haha

True. Gotta be careful.

And I'll be starting my OT marathon tomorrow.

Tuesday: ANH
Wednesday:ESB
Thursday: ROTJ
Friday: TFA

Can't wait.
I got ANH out of the way a few days ago. I think Ill do ESB tonight and ROTJ on wednesday.

Nice job. Remeber, despecialized editions all the way. ;)

We're so close now..

Good man.

I'm somehow finding myself less excited as time goes on. I'll catch this early in its run, but probably not for the first week or so. I'm deeply skeptical of the story, but hope it turns out.

This is the first I've heard of the 'Despecialized' edition. Intriguing.

I need to get hold of these despecialized editions i think

it's sogood.gif

I also need to get ahold of the despecialized versions. I am flying for Christmas right before I see the movie, so I would watch them on my way.

for those seeing it opening day (friday), how long are you guys going ahead of time to stand in line? I already have tickets but wondering how early I should go to get decent seating.

Cause like... I didn't disike the special editions before but a few months ago I was watching Empire and the clash between the original effects and updated CG was a real corn stalk of shit.

I'll likely check that out in the coming days. Want to squeeze in Rebels as well but don't know if time will allow it. Then again I could just get Finn to allow it.
Did you watch the Clone Wars show?

They're the theatrical versions of SW, without added content/cgi/scenes, fan-restored.

You're OK with the "Jedi Rocks" CGI sequence in Jabba's Palace and the Jabba added scene in ANH? Ugh, wish I could stomach all of those dreadful changes.
I dare not even watch the "specialized" versions of the OT. The only part of the edited OT I know about is -VI spoiler-..
Vader saying no when he kills Sidious. Him being silent so so much more powerful to me.
that alone makes me not wanna watch it. O and of course the famous meme in IV.

Well that's odd. Everything we've seen looks pretty goddamn promising.

Some people really just don't give a shit. I grew up on the VHS copies, yet the changes don't offend me so much that I'm unhappy with the bluray sets. It's fine that other people feel differently.

You do you, I'll do me.

Do it if you can!

Thankfully I'm caught up on Rebels. Going to watch the prequels over the next few days maybe.

Was just asking a question, not telling you you can or cannot like something. I'm glad you can look past the edits.

The changes to Terrence Howard for the blu-ray release of Empire was insane.

i think the only really offensive changes is the cluttered CGI inclusions in a new hope and jedi rocks....fuuuuuuuck jedi rocks forreal

It's amazingly mindboggling that anyone thought that'd be a good idea, surreal even. It transcends the boundaries of logic and reason, like how love transcends time and space.

It was literally them playing with a new toy. They had a fancy new toy in CGI and wanted to play with it as much as possible, against any other judgement. It's understandable in that context, if being completely shameful at the same time.

That said, a great deal of the "changes" and fixes were welcome though. Like, probably most of them. Stuff like cleaning up the mattes around ships, fixing the transparent cockpits during Hoth, etc. A lot of that falls under modern remastering stuff, going back to the source footage and applying modern techniques to clean them up without actually changing anything. Unfortunately that stuff gets drowned out by the actual changes and additions that announce themselves as being out of place.

Was thinking I might watch the OT before Wednesday night, or at least one of them, but I've decided against it. I watched the entire saga over a 3-day weekend in October and felt fatigued by the end (did do 4-6,1-3 mind). Don't wanna feel any kind of fatigue before 7.

Is it bad that I can just picture the blue text coming up at the start of 7 and just the thought almost makes me teary eyed? I warned my girlfriend it might get emotional at the beginning, end and several times in between depending on how good it is...
From what my friends have said I may not be the only one at least.

I can't wait to hear the theme song. That will make so many people teary eyed.

Understandable if they allowed you to choose between the original and 90s Experimental Extravaganza Special Edition. But they chose for you. :(
