The only reaction that matters is Rick McCallum's.

Because you made two posts in this thread saying that you are worried that the new Star Wars film will have a messy story like the Star Trek (2009) reboot.

I guess I don't understand why Star Trek is being used as a reference point, if the people involved with Star Trek's story and screenplay aren't involved with Star Wars? I mean, Michael Arndt, the writer of Toy Story 3 and Little Miss Sunshine, has a writing credit on The Force Awakens.

For the record, it's absolutely fine if you aren't excited for this film, or if you are skeptical of this film's story. I mean, it's very possible that Devin might be right. After three disappointing prequels, everyone has earned the right to be skeptical about this film.
Because despite the different writers, there are similarities in the approach taken here, and it's the last film I saw from the same director, as I said earlier. (Another Abrams reboot where he brings back the original cast and and retreads a lot of the same story ideas.) I know there are different writers, which is why I am hoping for a different outcome despite my worries. I'm a huge fan of the OT and dearly want this to be good. I'll stay worried until I see it.

And yes, I'm setting my expectations low, which is basically my approach to everything. It makes for more pleasant surprises. :p

It's not just a Star Trek thing, it's an Abrams thing, considering I thought Super 8 disappointed during it's 3rd act as well. We'll see.

Or maybe, just maybe, it's his honest opinion? It's okay to not love a movie.

or maybe you just completely avoided my entire point which was why are we focusing on one "ok" review, when there are so many out there that are overwhelmingly positive.

For now lets set it aside in the pile of "meh" reviews where for now it is kinda lonely. When other meh reviews come in (and they will) we can look at them collectively and see if there is a trend. As of right now he is the only one saying the things he is saying.

Rotten Tomatoes got rid of user comments on critic reviews for a reason. Because certain insane internet people would go ape shit over a bad review. It's a cowardly insecurity that isn't new or surprising.

Ignore whatever reviews/opinions/impressions you want. But saying

This is the reason people like him post that crap. He is getting more attention than all the positive tweets combined. Why would he not do it?

is kinda silly and downright wrong. Faraci is a lot of things, but he's not someone who's going to be contrarian just for the sake of attention.

A HUGE thing to consider is JJ is a true and true Star Wars fanboy. So he gets Star Wars he knows what made him love it. Same can no be said for JJ and Star Trek.

Another major thing. Star Trek was a reboot. Star Wars VII is a sequel where they have taken a back to basics approach(mostly in the effect department). To tie the OT to the ST and make people feel like it was a true continuation it was a simple as getting familiar characters back in where they would logically be 30 years later.

With Star Trek it was a reboot. To achieve a link to the past they had to come up with the whole time travel plotline which considering how messy that could have been it was a wonder they made it work at all.

People are freaking out, I am totally fine with an OK movie it is still fucking star wars, my cinema still doesn't have the listing up. It is still in coming soon.

its not ignoring. It waiting for a larger sample before assuming he is on point or is off. Big difference. Right now is like 30 to 1(rough estimate) in favor of it being great. If the next 10 come in and say similar things as Faraci then I will start to believe he was on to something.

Honestly its rather illogical for someone to run with the 1 out of 30. Only reason someone would do that is if they have a preconceived notion that that one opinion confirms.

I feel like we're on two different wavelengths here.

Just to clear, I don't think the movie is going to be bad or mediocre in any way. Nor I do care much about Faraci's impressions.

Jeff Cannata says this is what we love about Star Wars and Star Wars is back, film is not without flaws.

Honestly Canatta is kind of like me and I usually fall in line with him on stuff.

Really Really excited now

my wavelength is simple. I tend to discount outliers. As the sample set changes and if data points move the mean closer the outlier, it will at some point cease to be an outlier. Until that happens I am not going to worry about what one impression said. If it was 60/40 or even 70/30 I would be concerned we would have another PT on our hands, but its not so far (that could of course chance).

I will admit that I don't want him to be right, I want TFA to be great (why wouldn't anyone). However if what he is saying becomes a trend I will need to temper my enthusiasm towards the movie (for my own sake..lol).

I'm definitely optimistic, but I trust no opinions in the immediate afterglow, especially when it's this franchise and it's been so long since the last one.

Don't know if this has been posted in the thread yet (there's a lot of pages), but it might not be a terrible idea to keep this in mind (immediate Phantom Menace reactions from back in the day).

I think it's a tie between this movie and Minions.

It's insane. There's even Max Factor make up. Both Light and Dark Side shades. "Choose your allegiance"...

FFS!

People forget so easily....

Any words from George Lucas? Did he like it?

He saw it like a week ago and said he liked it.

Some negative reviews on Twitter and they all kind of read the same. They are all people that are kind of abnoxious blow hards too.

Funny how I could have wrote the reviews before they did just based on how they usually post.

I freaking can't wait to see this movie.

Faraci can be an asshole. Like, pretty much all the time.

But i do think he is honest with his opinions. I truly believe the way he feels is the way he feels.

I just think he is pretty much constantly rude to everyone.
