FAST Racing NEO |OT| When Everyone's Fast, No One Will Be

My biggest gripe about this is that if I screw up in a race I can't restart the specific race, but rather start the entire cup over.

I hope they patch that at some point.

Isn't that the case for every racing game with a championship mode, ever? It would be too easy if they let you restart a race, you could just retry every time you screw up and get gold for every cup with basically no challenge. Which game has cups that don't work like that?

To be fair? Most.

Even most games that don't allow you to restart constantly (like Mario Kart) won't generally deny you even a single redo before allowing you to lose all your previous race progress.

DF made an update concerning the game's resolution(on mobile, tough to link). Apparently the game does do a full 720p, but it's dynamic, so in many cases - due to various effects and how they are implemented - it can go as low as 640x720. Apparently, it was in that range during much of their resolution tests. Something to that effect.

It's really amazing that they've got stuff like SSAO, and PBR going at 60fps, very few games on the much more powerful consoles do that! All the procedurally generated and on-the-fly stuff they did is supper impressive too!

It was also funny hearing Shin'en give the same reasoning(gameplay/design) for crafts' shadows not tied to scene/Sun light as some were trying explain in that thread a while back.

I don't mind the lack of track restart during the Championship. In fact, it would make the Championship pointless if you could just restart. Might as well have just have Single Race mode at that point.

However, FUCK Sunahara Desert. It's the biggest piece of shit track I've played in a racing game in years. Still stunned it's in the game.

Hypersonic is amazing

Thought it'd be too hard to manage (and prob will be in later courses) but just finished the first cup and loved it

Feels like I'm doing better than Supersonic too lol. Leans are waaaay more important here, especially for avoiding hazards and readjusting mid-flight. So rad

I actually think it gets easier because the AI starts doing more mistakes.

Subsonic was the most problematic to me because of the rubber band, but in Hypersonic I was managing better because the opponents would crash more often.

I'm really glad to see it top eShop charts across the World, I hope this is a really successful game for Shin'en. The fact that updates already in the work is just brilliant.

it did! great to hear I like the sound of that. I want this game to sell a LOT of copies/downloads whatever.

From the twitter and it's the same in the US just checked.

Track minimap is a very necessary addition.

yep. I don't mind the ai as much but it will still be nice to get a couple seconds warning before they zip past you into first.

probably won't happen but i'd like to able to do a single track in race conditions. Championship mode should stay as it is but it would definitely nice to practice the 2nd 3rd and 4th tracks in each cup outside of time attack.

Haven't been able to spend a ton of time on the game yet...

So it took me a while to figure out that lean isn't heavily useful for sharper cornering, but IS useful for avoid obstacles that you come up on quickly.

But in terms of cornering, in everything but the Ziro machine, it seems cornering without slowing down or hitting the walls repeatedly isn't really possible. Is that the case? Is braking and lifting a huge part of things?

Everybody raves about the Fulcon machine, but it seems to have no cornering ability? What am I doing wrong?

Congratulations to Shin'en for their second entry in the All-time Top20 wiiU-only eShop in DE. A success well deserved.

I am done with the game. I have never, ever, ever ditched a game because of a single level or track before, but for me Sunahara Desert literally ruins the entire game.

I have tried 20+ times now and I can't get higher than 10th place on any attempt (Supersonic) , and have frequently been lapped by most other entrants.

It's a broken track that should of never passed white boxed design stage. I've said it before, but I honestly think this is one of the worst tracks I have played in a racing game. It's certainly the most damaging to any game as its meant I can no longer progress.

I am putting together a case for a full refund from Nintendo as progress for me is now broken and it's not possible to continue. The Championship is not completable for me at 3rd place or higher.

It is doable, just not by you. BTW, a big lol @ asking for a refund...

"Dear Nintendo, I suck at this game, can I have my monies back?"

Not to be down on you, but it just sounds foolish.

I am just angry right now. The track is fucking garbage and ruins the game. I wouldn't mind if they put that track first in the Championship, you could at least retry then.

So I finally brought the game and tried it out, it's fun but the control needs some work as I feel that I need a hundred fingers to play the game. I also don't get the point of the colour boosting and feel that it adds nothing to the game.

But other than that the game is pretty fun to play and the music is really good.

I know how you feel, so I can offer some compassion. It's particularly bad when a game is otherwise very enjoyable, and then it pulls something that pummels you. That's an indie game, though, sans the hundreds upon hundreds of hours of play-testing by people outside the dev team. I'm saying that from first hand experience - devs normally become completely desensitized to the difficulty spikes in their own games, just because when you're playing something for months on 'from the other side', you're just not a good audience representative.

But hey, exactly because it's an indie game, if you have a sound case devs might listen to you!

You are absolutely right, that is the exact reason the game is very hard (and lots of indie games are typically very hard). I think if might of mentioned this in my initial impressions, at least I intended to.

I've calmed a bit now with a cup of tea. Might email the team tomorrow with my (more constructive) thoughts.

My want beyond what they are going to patch in Jan, is when two player local, don't split the screen, give me the TV and my kid the gamepad screen....

Quoting for the new page; struggling a bit and some feedback would be much appreciated.

I finished the cup as third (or second) while being 9th in sunahara desert... should be possible as number 10 as well. Anyway, just train that shit. Go time trial and drive the track for an hour or two and you should be able to be competetive. (or use that cheat shortcut seen a few posts above yours)

It's simply the only track that really punishes going off track. It's quite doable if you just drive a little more careful (not taking all the boosts and going off the acceleration) and take the corners on the inside.

I'm more or less finished with the game (after less than 15hours; I am not yet 1st place in every cup). Hero mode was much easier than I anticipated, time trial too. Wish it would be a little harder. I think the most difficult part is to get to first place in championship. But that's also the one thing that has most to do with luck (because of your rivals failing). Would like some more challenges. Awesome game, nonetheless.

@prag
corners are not the most important part. Getting and using boosts the right way, is. Don't mind hitting the edges of corners, just be sure to don't lose too much speed. I like the 4th and the 9th vehicle the most, because they are the easiest to control for me. I use strafing all the time, even while going into corners. The control stick only in corners, actually. (i finished hero mode and never really use the breaks)

For sharper turning, you're going to want to kind of turn pretty heavily into the turn while sort of feathering your shifts out of the turn, and then adjust with shifts in either direction depending on how sharp the turn is or fast you're going etc.

For instance, if you want to turn left, point the analogue stick left while shifting to the right, then feather shifts in either direction to line up properly. That's the the basics of what I do, and it works well. Of course the most important thing is memorizing the tracks and understanding how much turn/shift you need for each turn, and you'll have to get that just from feeling it out. But you should be able to take most turns without slowing down. You'll even be able to boost through turns when you really get used to it.

Sorry you're having trouble with it, but it's really not that bad once you get used to it. It is the biggest "shit just got real" track in the game, but with a little time it's not really that different from other tracks. The track design is pretty straightforward. It doesn't have sharper turns than any other track. There's just no guard rails so you have to nail your turns better than you would in other tracks. It's absolutely doable. Spend a little time on time trials. You'll get there.

Protip: if you do well enough on the other courses you can get 10th on Sunahara and it won't matter

Get 1st/2nd in a couple of races. It'll make a huge difference.

That's the only way I cleared it on higher speed levels (you haven't experienced bullshit until you run it on Hypersonic)

I have two kinda stupid questions:

1. In the few videos I've seen so far this game seems to be mostly about "don't hit the walls" and "get as much boost as possible". I like racing sims a lot, but Mario Kart too. The difference is that Mario Kart can be about getting complicated turns or corner-combinations right as in "finding the ideal line" through the chicanes, but in Fast Racing Neo this doesn't seem to be the case, am I correct? Is this not this kind of game?

2. How is the frame-rate in split-screen racing and could I play this with my nephew who is still in Kindergarten? He usually doesn't get better than 5th place on the lowest difficulty in Mario Kart but even if he get's last place, he's enjoying it a lot. Could he play this ..like "at all"?

One last and less stupid question:
Is there a tilt-control scheme? Or just D-Pad and/or stick?

Only answering what I know.

1.- It's more complex than "don't hit the walls", you have to get the right technique for taking turns without losing much time, and boosting at the right time, things you end up learning the hard way and that end up being more important as the game progresses.

2.- The game is hard (well, harder than Mario Kart) and I don't know if your nephew would enjoy it, because thare are some tracks with technical parts. If you don't land on the track in a jum or hit an obstacle, you have to repeat the section until you pass thorugh it, which could be frustrating to him. There is also no power ups to help the one going in last place.

There is tilt-scheme and there a lot of controller options (don't know the exactly which ones, but you can have a look in the ehsop page).

I love Wipeout but found F-Zero GX too hard to control and too punishing. Would I like this game?

It's hard, but maybe not AS HARD as F-Zero. It's definitely not as punishing, since you will never get a game over for destroying you car (except in Hero Mode).

Despite it's obvious quality, I didn't like GX because it was too hardcore and too fast but I liked this game right away.

Now either it's more forgiving or I'm a better gamer but I dug it right from the getgo.

Keep in mind, I have mostly played on the lowest speed though(which is still fast and really fun).

I think this is a big reason.
