Street Fighter V Beta 3 Thread: For when Star Wars is sold out.

This is more of the O'Malley that interests me, not the one that's haphazardly slugging the other two in a way to put himself ahead. This is where he's strong.

...

This isn't the debate thread.

SFV is great.
Bernie Sanders is the Akuma of Street Fighter V. Aka, he belongs in Tekken.

Just so you guys know, there's a Street Fighter GAF Discord chat server. Not too populated at the moment, but that's why I'm posting it here. Quote this post for an invite link. The link in this post will work for 24 hours.

its so fun logging in to see none of my combos work anymore and none of the characters i care about are even in this build... oh and 10 HOUR DOWNTIME?! but i did get to see starwars ep7 in imax :0

Which combos were you doing that don't work anymore? How do you know the combos you did don't work if the characters you play aren't in? Did you not read the clearly laid out schedule that's been explaining when the downtime would happen? How did you log in if the servers are down for maintenance?

I was trying to figure out whether Chun's extra hitstun on counter hits and the extra hit stun from v-trigger were cumulative (since nobody's frame data has CH+v-trigger data AFAIK). I was able to do v-trigger CH fwd.MP into cr.MK, which I doesn't work with only v-trigger or only a CH, so it seems so?

Yeah , it does stack. Pretty sure CH fwd.HK > st.MP is also VT and counterhit only.

Yeah , it does stack.

Do you know if it's literally the extra hit advantage for both added up?

So cr.LK gets 2 extra frames of hitstun on CH and 2 extra frames of hitstun in v-trigger, so CH v-trigger cr.LK is +5?

Im really not sure, i didnt test out VT+CH stuff out too much.

Does the PC version support DirectInput controllers yet?

That is pretty much the deciding factor in whether I pre-purchase this game or wait until a few days after release. No DirectInput, no sale.

Tried out Chun for the first time this beta, and I like her quite a bit. Her V-trigger is by far my favorite aside from maybe Mika or Rashid. One thing I haven't quite grasped is her V-skill, though I've hardly even used it. Can it be used in combos or is it more used as way to get in a bit faster?

iirc it has a hitbox on the way up so i think you can v skill stomp x3 then air ex legs. might be a good stun or dp punish combo.

You can use it to launch opponents and then hit them in the air with the headstomp or lightning legs.

You can use it to punish someone but its not worth it damage wise. You can combo into it in some instances but its very situational. I rarely used it.
I get punished all the time for trying to build two v-triggers a round with vega using his v-skill lol
I'd chalk that up as experimentation.
Though there are guaranteed situations like punishes, where you have to make a choice.

I make a lot of errors on pad because I don't have a PS4 stick.

The worst is getting Vega's stance change all the time when I'm in footsies battles because my thumb hits the down on the dpad when I roll back and forth.

Need to work on it.

I had some issues using Necalli's far range VSkill when I had his charge move readied. Not sure if that is my bad or not.

I think it would work better if you tap back and forth, instead of rolling over the dpad.

Does anyone remember from the stress test if Laura Ex fireball link into the air grab or it never was? I coulda sworn it was linkable. (You can still do it in the corner but wanted to do it midscreen).

Now you have to V-Trigger ex fireball(adds an additional hit to ex fireball) and the air grab afterwards.

Can anyone confirm?
Have you tried mapping a button to MP+MK? I did it with Vega's V-Trigger to make reactions easier.
Nah, the only time I have ever mapped a button like that is Skullgirls assists, because no way can you call those reliably otherwise. I don't plan on maining Necalli anyway. It's bad for me to use characters with DPs. :P
What I'm saying is that I'm doing it by accident. I don't mean to hit the down button.
I know. This is more of a trouble shooting thing, because it is not possible to hit down accidentally unless you roll over the dpad.

I can't find this week's FGW, and I'm a Junior so I can't make a separate thread, so I'll ask you guys instead.

Ono has promised multiple times that SFV will be more competent in the story department. What will make you guys happy with SFV's story and single player content?

Street Fighters gone by seem to have settled with a single-player experience consisting solely of a fight-to-the-boss arcade mode.

Personally, I'd like to see them expand on storylines set up from the UDON comics. Capcom has a surprisingly rich canon that they don't do anything with and that's really unfortunate.

I'm not asking for Netherrealm style chapter based story telling, but I would like to see a cutscene here or there with a sense of direction and motivation for characters instead of going from one fight to the next.

Pretty sure the servers are down for maintenance

I only got to play a couple of hours last night and it was all practice. Haven't even played anyone yet. Got home a couple of hours ago, hyped to play...only to see an unable to play message. Ugh, what's up with these 10 hour maintenance sessions? This is my first time with the beta and it's only up for short bursts.

I know it's not likely but does anyone have a spare US PSN code for the Beta? I'm going to a friend's tomorrow and would like to play there :(

It sucks, but it was up all of last night and today (EST) and will be back up tomorrow. The first 10 hour maintenance was annoying and the game was barely working during the first shift, but it was doing much better today.

Yeah, I wish that they would've just brought back her SF3/SF4 overhead (forgot what it was called)

I think it's hazanshu. Funny thing about that is that I thought she destroyed Ryu in the first day or two of the the first beta test because I played it like SF4 and thought she had hazanshu ready to go the whole time. As soon as I realized it wasn't there anymore I haven't lost to a Chun since the last day of beta 1 I think. I'm not saying I think Ryu beats her, but man it feels so good fighting her now without those extra tools to annoy and counter shoto's.

I can finally spam fireballs as long as I keep a eye out for jump ins or that V Skill. I know she still has that slide move, but it's no where near as good as SF4 hazanshu to get through fireballs. No more focusing fireballs for Ultra to shut down my fireball game, no more focus back dash sweep, no more hazanshu through my fireballs. I know she has more in her arsenal in SFV but I'm just so glad those tools from SF4 are gone.

Bison is a monster in this build, got to play him on Tuesday in the mini test. Psycho Inferno is a command move now. He can cancel off his crouch medium now. His V-skill can even parry and reflect normals.

Yeah I've heard about some of the changes in this build. His V-Skill has always been able to absorb any hits, though (in the first beta I experimented with it as a defense against jump-ins).

I've heard all his knee presses are pretty unsafe on block now if not very spaced, even LK. I've also heard he has a target combo now that doesn't actually combo unless it is on counter-hit, which sounds weird but I guess it might be useful as kind of a automatic frame trap to fish for CC psycho axes.

I'd like to see SP matter with MP. Make a mini-TV episode worth of growth for each character's story (using preferably in-game graphic cinematics between matches), and then let each of those things have a bonus for use in MP (New taunts, win poses, different costumes, etc).

Make sure this stuff is available for all character too, including the DLC. If it doesn't fit in the current story, make it either a flashback tale, or a "what-if" saga.

My favorite elements of story in fighters have always been the ones that show up in gameplay. Such as the Rival music between Sol and Ky in Guilty gear, the special intros between Kyo and Iori, or character specifically taunting each other when they do moves. Or how Soul Calibur III made all it's extra models into bonus playable characters(Revenant, Abelia. the shop keeper girls, etc).

It sucks that so many fighters are afraid of letting character age and progress. The most epic series are the ones that let character change from students to masters over the courses of their development. It was great seeing such a thing happen in the new Star Wars, and it'd be great in a game like this, too...

I think that Capcom is setting up for having a small time jump in Street Fighter in a few years. They're putting SFV near the end of the current timeline, advancing stories along the way. You can already see this a good amount with Ken's son growing and M. Bison with white hair, etc etc.

I'm going to guess by Street Fighter 7, we'll be playing Ken's son versus Ryu junior or something like that.

Saw something interesting over on Reddit, where some (and if I had to guess, all) armor moves don't gain their armor until at least after the first frame, so they will still lose to meaty attacks.

Yeah, got stuffed quite a few times after using Laura's ex elbow.
