What would that even mean? If we take out all the Star Wars stuff we're left with nothing. A guy says "do you have a boyfriend? Cute boyfriend?" and another guy says "so who talks first?".

This movie is so concerned with Being Star Wars that I don't know what else it could be. Right now it's a New Hope rehash; otherwise it's a New Hope knock off.
A scavenger from a barren planet in a post war world befriends a deserter from a galactic army. Together, they flee and meet a famous war hero, and in turn are swept up in the fight against the galactic army

The duo are pursued by the elite assassin/enforcer of the army, the grandson of a infamous enforcer from the past struggling to escape the shadow of his family notoriety

Both parties are seeking a critical piece of information to find a legendary warrior who could turn the tides of the conflict

There you go, without Star Wars.

The story could still work if the characters are strong

I got confused with Clone Wars. Weren't yhere multiple series' called Clone Wars? Or am I just lost and there's just one big one?

There was a Clone Wars cartoon that came out in '03 by Genndy Tartakovsky. You can watch that if you want, but it is not considered cannon.

Lucas went on to make the Clone Wars TV show (the CGI one), which lasts six seasons. Skip the movie, there's really no need for it (plus, its a really bad intro to the series). The first season is a little rough, but season 2 picks up pace, and by the end of season 3, you'll be hooked. Season 5 is still some of the best Star Wars anything that's been done, and really helps explain why Anakin was so quick to turn in Episode III. The entire series is on Netflix. Do yourself a favor and watch it.

I'm not pissed lol. I just think it takes away from the magic of invention in a fantasy story.

I didn't direct that at you, sorry. But plenty of people on Twitter are pissed off.

Personally I like it because I like the scientific facts he drops. It's often things I normally wouldn't know about.

I watched it again. It was a very different experience with a regular crowd. The theater was completely silent the entire time except one little kid gasping at the C-3PO introduction.

Guys, what about The Raid actors?

Totally wasted.

My personal theory is that when JJ requested a year and only got 6 months, he was forced to cut the Knights of Ren from the film, but rather than not use the actors he just repurposed them for a generic gang.

They could still play Knights of Ren if they keep their masks on and whatnot.

that neil degrasse tyson guy is annoying

Yeah. I can understand movies like Gravity and Interstellar being corrected. But Star Wars gives zero shits about its science, it's cowboys and samurai in space.

Y'all getting salty because a really smart guy is trying to help educate the masses and dropping morsels of how science works and people are taking it as "who cares it's Star Wars." He's not doing it out of spite, he's doing it because he has the knowledge to answer the exact same questions you'll see on this message board about "well how did that work?!"

I find it really entertaining and it's always nice to pick up on things like this to further my knowledge on the subject.

A year and a half for the next one gives me a bit of pause, seems awfully short

The parsec thing is easy enough to explain, Han completed the Kessel run in 12 parsecs can be construed as being the distance he did it in, he took dangerous short cuts that are normally either avoided or others fail to succeed in taking.

For those upset over the "Plot holes" of TFA needs to be reminded of what a plot hole is.

A good example of a plot hole is how Anakin became a force ghost.

We're told that Yoda has made contact with Qui-Gon in Episode III about a way to communicate post-death. It's heavily implied that this is an ability that needs to be taught. Obviously Obi-wan learned this, and somehow Yoda picked this up, too.

The Plot hole comes from how Vader learned how to do this. Either he discovered it himself, or was taught by someone else (Sheev is the only real option here). And if Sheev taught it, then obviously Sheev knows it.

Either way, it's left wide open, and sort of contradicts itself.

THAT is a plot hole.

Aside from Anakin turned back to the light at the last moment he's Jedi Jesus, the physical embodiment of the Force.

Ignore that midichlorians are physical things.

Rey is so damn good. Finn is amazing too but he feels like the second character, Rey is the lead (ala Luke in the OT) and a very good one. The acting was all top notch.

No. Much to Hamill's dismay for an easy paycheck

I'm glad they showed Luke at the end but I do wonder how much it cost Disney for that one scene. Was probably worth it in second visits and Blu-ray sales to make fans and critics happy.

Exactly, he isn't trying to ruin the movie...He is simply trying to get some free publicity to further science...

Everybody needs to relax...The guy is not trying to destroy childhood.

Here's a fun question I'll stick in here in lieu of making yet another goddamn Star Wars thread;

If this movie isn't a Star Wars movie, do you like it?

Clearly a loaded/unfair question (The strengths the movie has are based on the characters and themes of the franchise itself), but I'm a bit curious.

Hmmm, I think I'd like it, yeah. It'd bring it down from great to good in my books, because it's like you said: a lot of the movie's strength are derived from the characters and universe itself.

It's a tough question though, because it would also detach the movie from some of its weaknesses (like the derivations from ANH).

I think that just because the characters are so likeable, the dialogue and interactions are written so well, and the film is visually spectacular that yes, I'd still like it.

Hmmmm...intriguing. And it's on Netflix. Sounds like a perfect binger.

I wonder if we'll actually see the Kessel Run in the Han Solo prequel...

Is there really that little from season 1 that carries forward in any meaningful way?
Just watch it all. You'll miss good fight scenes and such. Every show suffers from poor episodes and finding its footing in its first season.

Just watch the show. I think it's silly to just straight up skip episodes because some people think they're not worth watching

Who else thinks Finn is gonna be part cyborg now? He got slashed right down the spine. I'm thinking half cyborg bad ass like Raiden in Metal Gear.

Nobody likes Professor Actually.

I do. Wallowing in the technical stuff is one of the reasons I enjoy scifi. Just because parts of the movie don't make sense or realistic doesn't necessarily detract from it, nor does the fact that it's a movie, doesn't make analyzing stuff not a fun exercise.

I think I'll see it again tonight in Vegas. Thought about seeing it in 3d Imax this time, then I noticed that they've got some $5 Mondays thing for non 3d. I guess I'll do the atmos jbx thing. Whatever the fuck that is.

I'll see it in 3d in Toronto.

Is the last season of Clone Wars canon? I'm guessing it is because the TFA visual dictionary has Moraband (ugh) in it instead of Korriban.

I dunno, man, I tell pretty much everyone to skip The Great Divide when watching Avatar: The Last Airbender. Even the show makes fun of how pointless that episode was.

It shouldn't. Rian has been in preproduction for a while. That distance doesn't cover the entirety of production.

Yea I'm sure the script is being written now. They've definitely already done some location shooting with Mark Hamill and I assume Daisy as well.

and to be honestly I'm sure the story group probably has an overall framework for how they expect the story to go. Not saying it can't be revised or anything but I'm sure there is a plan in place.

I thought they were set to start filming before VII even came out?

It really is, and it gives life to the Clones themselves. You really become attached to some of them.

Which makes watching Star Wars Rebels after you finish Clone Wars so much more meaning behind it.
