Final Fantasy VII PS4 |OT| One last time before the remake

platinum'd the game on first try a couple hours ago, last ones besides finishing the game were the LVL.99 and 99 million gil trophies

so guys what strategies did you guys use for the weapons, i personally always go with W-summon with KotR and HP absorb

Just Platinumed, thank god for triple speed. Took me 35 hours. I did not remember the original being so slow.

End boss spoilers
And Sephiroth is total pushover. Beaten him in 2 turns, I thought he was harder when you had a level 99 character, nope. Total joke. And even in the showdown vs Cloud where you normally use Omnislash, I let him attack me, I countered and the fight was over. Didn't even knew you could beat him without Omnislash. I think he is by far the lamest final boss of the series.

Lamest and easiest would be Kefka, no contest. You don't even need level 99 or something like Knights of the Round to annihilate him without much effort.

in general I remember the game being more difficult

I've just been playing normally, as normal or sort of typical as an average playthrough could be, I guess... never running from battles but not exploring a ton either because I remember the game pretty well yet. Haven't touched 3x Speed or No Encounters. Just sort of going through normally and leveling normally, I suppose. And every boss has been so easy. Hardest was probably the boss at Shin-ra Mansion (first visit)... But truthfully, probably the 3 or even 4 closest times I've come to dying have all been from those damn birds in Wutai hahaha ;p That was the first and only time I stop to 'level up' because I wanted to work on Aeris' Limits, and casually grinding there I almost died a few times when a few Lightnings all chained together ;p But other than that, every boss has been pretty easy.

I remember getting my ass kicked a lot more back in the day :( Maybe I just make better use of spells now, I used to conserve MP/items way too much back on SNES/PSX RPGs.

For me, I think it was more difficult because I hadn't played (m)any JRPGs before. Now that I've played so many, I've internalized how to learn (or relearn when replaying) and take advantage of their systems more easily. The speed boost doesn't hurt, either!

I finally got my first platinum, I left the last trophy to be beating the game and it felt great. Watching the ending brought back so many memories and started tearing up when the
lifestream
came in to save the planet. I love this game and am so glad its being remade and hope they do it justice.

The first game I bought for my PS4. I wish I could go play it right now, but I gotta finish the game I'm currently playing first.

Oh well. Would prefer it if they updated that.

Guess ill jump in to this game again. Last time i played it, i was 10 ;)

anyone wanna give me a quick intro to those cheats? 3x speed is pretty straight forward i guess, but how do the others work?

One stops all random encounters, but not forced encounters.

One keeps your life, magic and limit bars full - this doesn't stop you dying, because a strong enough attack to drain all your life will still kill you.

Ive got the guide again like I did in my first play through and it's funny reading the boss parts and it's saying "this is a tough boss" sorta stuff and they are down in several hits without my team breaking a sweat. Not sure if I'm a little over levelled or what but I'm finding all the bosses so far a breeze. Just up to the Temple of Ancients.

Got the plat after 25ish hours, was just running through it with cheats really as played about a million times before.

I have absolutely no idea how I coped at the 'normal' speed. It's hard to believe it was actually that slow at its original release lol.

Interesting, people keep saying the battle system's slow - I find this really strange. Particularly when everything in the config menu is set to 'fast', FF7's battles are most definitely well on the faster end of most turn-based RPGs. Are y'all people the kind that haven't played turn-based games in a while or something?

Just entered Wutai. Leveled everyone up to 40 and am able to get Aeris level four Limit Break now.

I've been playing with the trigger boosts just to get through it and it really annoys my husband haha.

I'm a big jrpg fan so I don't really think that's the case, it's perhaps just the jarring experience of switching from 3X speed back to normal which makes it feel a lot slower than it was perhaps?

Being able to turn off random battles is a godsend though, ain't nobody got time for that in 2015!

edit: hopefully when/if the other PS1 FFs are re-released they have the same speed/random battle functions certainly makes them a lot more playable for modern audiences imo.

Are there any tricks to leveling up faster? I mean, if you use the no encounters booster, couldn't you find yourself stuck with too tough enemies? If the level difference is bigger, I guess you get more exp but that assumes you survive :)

that's why you put on god mode

I've been skipping a lot of random battles, no grinding and this way my characters are a bit underleveled. The bosses are actually a good challenge this way.

FF8 is the game that has level scaling. Not 7.

I wouldn't exactly call the fight lame when you're probably about literally twice the level that the fight's designed for. 98% of JRPG final bosses are going to be laughably easy if you beat all the optional superbosses and max out your characters/abilities first.

I'm pretty sure that I've heard that Sephiroth scales somewhat to your level, but I think it's a limited level scaling, so if you level past a certain point you will just destroy him. I could be wrong though.

Safer Sephiroth gets an HP and Stat boost for each character at Level 99. He gets an additional boost if you cast Knights of the Round on Jenova Synthesis.

Considering how easy it is to make your characters in FFVII, by the time you get KoTR, that stat boost isn't going to help Sephiroth much anyway.

If anyone wants specific numbers, from the Final Fantasy Wiki:

For every character at Level 99 (not counting Aeris), 30,000 maximum HP, 2 Attack, 20 Defense, 5 Magic, and 16 Magic Defense are added to Safer∙Sephiroth's stats.

If Knights of the Round was cast on Jenova∙SYNTHESIS, Safer∙Sephiroth receives an extra 80,000 maximum HP.

For every time Bizarro∙Sephiroth's head was killed during the previous fight, Safer∙Sephiroth's maximum HP is reduced by 100, up to a maximum reduction of 24,900 HP.

Considering all these, Safer∙Sephiroth's maximum stats (bracketed in the table) are:

400,000 maximum HP, 246 Attack, 260 Defense, 140 Magic Power, and 308 Magic Defense.

Just out of interest, are there any changes in the translation in this port compared to the original release on the PS1?
Yeah quite a few. Nothing major and it's largely spelling mistakes, but some words have been changed as well, and even entire sentences in Wall Market.
That was changed in the first PC port from 98.
I'm pretty sure it was fixed for the European release on PS1 back when it first released. Not 100% sure though.

I am just before Cosmo Canyon.

I have done everything needed for Aries final limit break but there is no one in the house you get the manual from.

Do they only pop up after I get the Bronco?

I'm annoyed that I didn't buy it, when it was 10.99. I still have the original PC copy and the Steam release, but those aren't exactly comfy couch friendly. Not to mention the lack of parity with the hacks. No speed-up, no random encounter blocker, only the character booster on the website.

I'll buy the PS4 version, should it ever be on sale before the first part of the remake comes out.

Yep only after rocket town and its the small safe upstairs you want to open not the other one.

Best Bromance has been got. Also got Aries last limit break.

Used the Cosmo Canyon glitch about 10 times to do it.

That's the big missiable ones done.

Also I never noticed that the characters you done use still level up. Was that always there

I finally got the platinum in 26-27 hours. It's pretty fast and 3x speed helps a lot.

That's my 15th platinum for 2015.

man it's hard not to miss anything in this game without a faq or having perfect recollection of it... a lot little obscure rewards, steals, etc.

i'm at the northern cave now and I think I was almost perfect, but I missed the Aegis Armlet
(after the walkway collapses during parachuting into Midgar)
... one Ziedrich and Tough Ring
Rude and Reno don't appear in the underwater plane if you go there on disc 3 instead of 2)
, and Red XIII's default weapon was stolen by a thief out at the Corel Prison haha seems like there's almost always one thing that somehow falls through the cracks

I put funds in fort condor and tried to start the fight many times. but everytime i say im ready he says he needs 4000 gil to start, even though i dontated about 15000 so far :\

please tell me i missed something and didnt hit a glitch. i didnt go to junon yet if that matters

It's not a glitch. You don't have to donate any gil to them, you just need to have at least 4000 on you. Donating helps them in battles when you can't/don't participate in them.

Just say you're ready and you'll be good to go.

i did say i am ready and it didnt start the fight. I think it was some kind of glitch because he kept saying they need 3000 to start the fight and after i gave him 30k he started. Maybe a missing 0?

I've never donated any gil and I could start the fights just fine. Seems odd :/.

well at least now i was able to start the fight after giving him 30k gil. when do i start the next round? everytime i talk to the guy on the top the text tutorial pops up. Do i have to go to junon or something or can i do the fort condor fights back to back?

A lot of the fights are highly missable. But for the second one you'll have to go to Junon. If I remember correctly there's 2 fights you can miss while in Junon.

is there a way to get the bromance trophy right before the gold saucer event? I kept that file separate, when playing it was tifa tagging along. is there something I can do to get barret to join or do I have to start from scratch?

All I have left is the freaking Bromance trophy and I saved over all of my stuff. I guess I will be playing through at least that much of the game next week while off work from the Christmas break :(.

Well, it's done. The plat is mine. Saved the trophy for finishing the game until last. What a game, what a damn game. Give me VIII. disappointed that I didn't get a screenshot for the plat due to it being in a blocked scene (BECAUSE SPOILERS), but whatever.

I bought Advent Children Complete a few months back, not seen it yet. Advent Children had some great action scenes mixed with a ridiculous plot so I'm looking forward to seeing the same stupid plot fleshed out. That'll last me until the remake, short of a surprise Crisis Core HD release.
